Lots of work done on the tray pics t'mora.
Fuel wing tanks ready to fit [8D]
Wing UC panels cut and sealed with 'magic' tape.
Same for Servo doors.
It is now possible that this bird will be flyable Saturday, which (weather permitting) would be good because we have use of RAF Cottesmore....

Good luck with tomorrow, hope the forecast is ok, what a "summer". Want photos!
I read somewhere that fox was closed, is that true?
Regards,
Nick.

Paul, how come you plumbed the fuel tanks in series in the wings? Your going to drain one tank before the other making the plane heavier on one side and possibly needing trim changes mid flight. Why not plumb them in parallel?

I never plumb in parellel, the Hawk s the same.
Parellel runs the risk of one tank going before the other.
Also in series the first tank is full most of the flight so no fuel flow problems.
Trim change is not a problem, never had anything noticable.

RE: FOX COMPOSITES SABRE F86 for Wren 44 build thread
Just got back from an awesome weekend at RAF Cottesmore. Thanks to all the organisers and helpers. The weather was not too bad just a bit windy on both days but on Saturday the wind was 90 deg cross, on what is not a wide runway.
I had flown the FOX comp Hawk and all was well, but waited for the wind to ‘decide’ what it was going to do. The day went by and it did seem to drop off a little later on.
Most people had left at the point and we only had 15 minutes flying time left.
As there were no other models present I managed to find a path across the runway which gave me an into wind takeoff and landing, all be it rather short and narrow!
The decision was taken, and the F86 was fuelled. [>:]
Wren Gold 44 sprang into life as normal and after a final check I taxied out. Take off flap engaged, all clear and go….
Acceleration was very brisk and as the model approached me I eased back on the stick……airborne…. [8D]
No issues detectable at this stage, just a very fast acceleration as the gear went away and the flaps were lifted.
I climbed to a safe height and released the stick, a dive was present, but not excessive, up trim soon sorted that out.
This is a very clean design and the model really does move fast….i backed off the throttle and checked out the slower flying characteristics…very nice …no issues…even in the stiff wind.
The power to weight on this model is very good (don’t know the weight but it goes vertical…!) Anyway, a few large loops, then slow rolls…..very nice machine.
Time to test landing flaps. I had used a lot of flap and crow on the ailerons, all I can say is ….awesome….to bloody awesome..the plane almost stopped dead..it needs just under full power to overcome the drag.
Anyway, time to land, I decided to use the flaps and keep high power on, no problems, slid it round the final turn, line up, ease back the power, …..it almost stopped, so more power, drag it in..and touchdown…[8D][8D]
It settled well and rolled out……
This is a very nice model, very very happy with it.
I flew it again today and tried knife edge….it sits smoothly like a knife cutting silk…
I will now be playing with flap settings and doing the finishing on the cockpit and decals etc.
I will keep the thread updated as I go.

Well done Paul. Does the yellow show up well?
I found mine to be very docile even though I had a PST 600 so the weight would have been higher than yours I guess?
I agree about running the tanks in series. They are so close to the centre line it doesn't seem to make a difference and as you point out, one is full for half the flight.
With them being quite flat I think one would empty first. I used a ducted fan tank as the final tank and it worked great and added volume.

Yellow is a good colour for visibility.
I only use teh UAT over and above the fuel tanks.
The second tank is set to only half fill.
With the 44 you only need 1ltre not 2 so why carry it?
