I'm just building out my Tucano with an SPT-10. I'll provide photos over the weekend, I'm adding two air intakes on top of cowl as well as air exit vents similar to straightleg has shown above, in order to get the airflow moving through. I"m going to use two BVM NACA inlets for the intakes on the top of thew cowl Then adding the vent tow back of cowl near firewall.

Sorry for the delay, but I was out of town. Here's some pics of the progress of adding the BVM air inlets to the cowl and rear vent for air exit. I haven't painted the inlets yet but set them in place so you can see. once painted they'll blend in. I think the air should flow really nice in and out over the top of the exhausts and turbine. Haven't cut the opening for the rear vent but also set in place to see where it goes. I'll paint it flat black as well.. rob

Hey guys, if you need larger ones, I got some from Hoby King for Marchetti. I don't know how they would hold up with heat but here is a picture. I added heat shield on the other side.

I cut the hole for the rear cowl vent last night. Here's how it looks still need to screw down. I was going to paint the vent black, but I might wait since the silver vent doesn't look bad, it's just not really scale, but I'll see once done. I think it will flow a good amount of air through. rob

The painted NACA inlets look great. Regarding the other vent, I would painted (personal choice). In my case, I will look at some other vent alternatives through the side or the bottom.

Would NACA inlets work as vents if you would install them the other way around ?

No, the BMV inlets are designed to face that direction. since the cowl height rises from the leading edge over the top of the cowl, looking straight on toward the plane gives a nice wide opening for the air to flow in. the wider end toward the back

Thanks Rob...... those mods are really going to help me.

I have decided that I'm going to give the new Turboprop from Jetcentral a try. I'm tired of the really bad support from Jetcat and the Tucano will benefit from some additional power.

Going with the Jetcentral instead of Kingtech (even that it has a little bit more of power....) because of support. All my turbines are Jetcentral and my loca, dealer together with Ramon have given me and others a very good support through the years.

Now I just have to investigate which propeller would be the best for this combo.

Hi Fellows
just trying to get one of the last bits solved on the gear doors for the nose. I have been trying to use the wire hoop system to get the doors up and down successfully. Up is fine and down is the problem. My same problem is getting the right gear door down. It only opens only part way. I have tried using bigger wire that was supplied. I have also tried redrilling the holes so that they are closer to the center line where the two doors meet. Are the supplied hinging method a good method or should a more offset hinge be used. Any suggestions.

Thanks
Alan

One other question, on antenna placement. My scheme is the Queen's Anniversary. On the top antenna, is the placement just aft of the vertical scribed line or before. On this thread I have seen examples of both. On the bottom antenna I don't even know where to start to put it on the center line. Again any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Alan

Be sure to make the exit area vents bigger than the inlet area.

I tried using the wire method and it didn't work too. The problem was that the wire loses its springiness when pulled by the gear tight so I wasn't prepared to trust this method even if I had gotten it to work properly so I quit trying early. Instead, I installed two miny metal gear HT servos inside the bottom cowling to operate the doors and they work like a charm now.

Hey Azzam
Thanks for your thinking on this. I am so close to having this ready but if I have the Nose gear jam on the door, there goes the factory paint job.

Well... I finally got back to working on the Tucano. Just finished up on the cockpit. Man... that canopy was not easy to get on. Extremely large and flexible but I used a lot of the small magnets to hold in place and it came out good. the whole cockpit assembly is now in place and can get back to the install of the electronics and air systems. With the season going by fast and still some other events to go to, hopefully I'll get it done and maidened this fall. rob

Can someone tell me how you are attaching the exhaust stacks to the turbine exhaust ports. The exhaust ports are only about 1mm thin and I don't believe that's enough to thread?? are you using rivets? Thank, Rob

On my SPT 10 I attached the exhaust stacks with thre small machine screws. I drilled and tapped the ports and it is works great ... I have around 25 flights on mine.

Hello Azzam. I will give that a try. I have an SPT-10 as well. I was going to try rivets but want to be able to take on/off easy.

The seats are from iflytailies.com. I had to redo the whole bottom tub to make them fit, especially with the side panels. I liked the look and they're fairly light. I wanted to have a little more scale look with a 1:4 scale pilot.

I'm just working on my cockpit as well. My seats and dashes I got from Maffs. Just curious on what you do to secure pilots to the seats. Looks very clean on what you have done. Also I have extended the cockpit floor with G 10. Did you do any glassing or re-enforcing to make it quit rigid without getting it too weighty.
Nice work.

Hi Alan...For the pilot I drilled a hole through both sides of the seat all the way through where the back rest meets the bottom seat cushion. Then slid and glued a brass tube all the way through from one side of the seat to the other.. then I was able to just use 2 tie wraps around the lower front of the pilots hips and so it keeps him really tight and low in the seat. it's pulling him at a 45 degree into the lower corner of the back rest and seat bottom. I used the brass tube for strength but also if I needed to take him out, it's easy to slip another tie wrap through. I then have a tie wrap around his neck that goes straight through the seat to keep his head straight. It's hidden under his collar. For the tubs I made two tubs slightly larger and deeper then the vacuum formed ones and cut those out. Made them tubs out of balsa sheeting and then glassed them. they're really light and used a slightly heavier cloth for some strength. I then cut out where the legs would come through and drilled some holes in the back of each tub. This way the turbine can draw air through the cockpit.. well... that's what I hope to have happen.
