Composite ARF Tucano Build

Hi Alan...For the pilot I drilled a hole through both sides of the seat all the way through where the back rest meets the bottom seat cushion. Then slid and glued a brass tube all the way through from one side of the seat to the other.. then I was able to just use 2 tie wraps around the lower front of the pilots hips and so it keeps him really tight and low in the seat. it's pulling him at a 45 degree into the lower corner of the back rest and seat bottom. I used the brass tube for strength but also if I needed to take him out, it's easy to slip another tie wrap through. I then have a tie wrap around his neck that goes straight through the seat to keep his head straight. It's hidden under his collar. For the tubs I made two tubs slightly larger and deeper then the vacuum formed ones and cut those out. Made them tubs out of balsa sheeting and then glassed them. they're really light and used a slightly heavier cloth for some strength. I then cut out where the legs would come through and drilled some holes in the back of each tub. This way the turbine can draw air through the cockpit.. well... that's what I hope to have happen.
Thanks again
Alan

No problem Alan. The carf vacuum tub was wide enough at the top, but narrowed as it went down. So I wouldn't of been able to get even small side panel in, beside the depth not deep enough. My front tub sits only about 1/8"-1/4" above the wood bulk head on the wing tube, and the rear tubs sits about 1/8" above the rudder servos. so much lower then original tub but still good fuselage airflow.

when people say they added about 8 oz of weight to the front of the aircraft once balanced as recommended, where in front? 8oz in the nose under cowling is different then added 8oz in the fuse by the firewall. I'm assuming you mean in the fuselage up front as close to first wall as possible?

Great Point Azzam... I have the SPT-10. I've placed all equipment so that balance seems to be coming out right on the recommended CG. I just needed to add my light controller and battery which are around 8-10oz. so I was going to place them as far forward as possible inside the fuselage.

You can’t see in the pictures, but there is a Louvre in the cowl top and more in the fuselage base.
Balance with the SPT-10 and 5 blade prop is perfect. Powerbox Powerpak batteries in the cockpit area.
Model was built and owned by Andy Roshier, im just lucky enough to get to fly it a lot 🙂

I have K-100 on mine and I didn’t fly it yet. I’m worry a little bit about the CG. I’m planning to put my batteries in front of the rudder try.
I’m using 2 lipo 5000 amps for the powerbox, and one life battery with 3000amps for the turbine.

Just curious on the 5-blade prop. I'm still running the 3 blade with my SPT-10. Has anyone run both 3 and the 5 blade and is there any performance difference? I was thinking of trying the 5 blade.

I did place my batteries “500 Grams” just behind the CG point and balanced it as I mentioned earlier, it’s still looks nose heavy.
Thanks Dave for the response.

CARF Cockpit
Hello folks
I'm new in this forum writing from Germany.
I purchased a Tucano from CARF and I’m wondering how to fix the cockpit which was sent.
I ordered seats from ScalePrint, a Pilot from Tailored Pilots and the instrumental board from Noll.
The original cockpit shall be glued inside of the canopy? Unfortunately I can’t share a Pic just right now. I need 10 more Replies ;-)
hope to find some answers. I can also share some information by what’s app I needed.
cheers

Hello Mauro. I have many picture from by cockpit build on this thread. There's very limit room. You still need to make sure the airflow through from the back. I had to add more air vents or at full throttle the turbine sucks the canopy in. But I love this plane and fly it the most.

thx a lot. I already printed out your pics.
still a question: the 2 ends from the cockpit remain inside the canopy and the 2 middle pieces where the pilots are sitting in, are remaining below the canopy?
step 1: put the pilots in the fuselage and then, step 2 put the canopy above them and secure with the bolds
OR have you glued the pilots sections inside of the canopy?
Cheers
BTW: which seats are you using and which Pilot SIZE?
