The Route 66 RC Club (72) Members are again hosting the Route 66 Jets Event at the Litchfield Illinois Municipal Airport September 4-7.
This facility is rather unique because it has two nonintersecting runways one of them being, with FAA approval, closed to general aviation for the duration of the event. The only thing that prevents you from flying every day and all day is yourself and Mother Nature as the North/South Runway & Air Space is ours for the four days. There are no planned interruptions to you flying when you want and as often as you like!
Arrive on the 3rd if you like to get a good spot and help with the set up. Roger

This is getting Closer. Are any of the hotels offering a Jet Rally discount. Where is everyone staying?
I had a good time last year. Even though my F-16 was not complete.

There are at least half dozen motels are in the immediate vicinity of the A/P.
The Holiday Express provides an Airport/Event Rate of $69.95.
The Holiday, Super 8 & Best Value are within a stones throw of the A/P.

Is there any chance of getting the runway lights removed for the event?

This was an issue that was addressed by Gary Jefferson in Ohio, we flew from a 30' wide taxi way.

What is the size of the runway we will use at this event?

The runway is really wide. I don't think landing lights will be an issue.

Hum, well the runway is 75' wide 4000' long without so much as a hair line crack.....would be a lot of lights to remove, huh. Anyway will inquiry about the possibility of removing them in the vicinity of our normal t/o and landing area. In any case we will continue to put baskets over the lights if they are not removable.

Got my room. They are $49.00 at Am Best Value inn.

John, I know it is difficult to tell but our taxiway was actually about 47 feet wide. We fly at our local club which has a 30 foot wide runway and if you are use to flying from such a narrow strip you can really tell the difference.

Roger, I saw one of the lights removed after our event and there is just some type of quick coupling that turns and then the taxi light unplugs from the base. It looks very simple.

I wish Sandy and I could come this year but we are going to Michigan Jets next weekend, Heart of Ohio in two weeks and then the DOGS show the week after that; hope you have a great event.
