Sin, Thanks loads for putting the photo's of your Shock out. Can't believe how close my set-up is to yours. I must be guessing right!!! LoL. What type of tubing are you running on your pick-up in the main tank?? I'm hoping Tygon will be alright with one of the brass grated pick-up filters. I also thought about neopren but don't know about that. I know it would move around better then Tygon. Thanks again. Hooker53

Hooker,
If your set-up is the same as mine....CHANGE IT!! I don't have a clue as to what I'm doing here!! Actually it was put together by a friend of mine out here. He usually does a much "cleaner" install, but I guess he was sticking with the "utility" theme of the bird
I am using tygon for all the fuel tank connections. Works great, no leaks, no problems. All the 4mm stuff is Festo and it is all double safety wired.
Good luck and enjoy. The crow on this bird is hilarious....

Guys, Lets kick something in here for some discussion on the wing of this bird. This is just a thought but is anyone flying there shock with the wings not glued? Just wondering. I will glue mine but I don't see no reason why it wouldn't fly safley that way. The balsa on my root is only going to keep it from spreading apart but will not the four screws that hold it to the fuse keep it from doing that? I plan to increase the size of them a little anyway. If you consider my giant ugly stick, thats about all it has holding it together and the wings come apart for convenience and are bigger than the shocks wings. I know it's a jet but mine don't have a P-200 in it either. Mabey Bill will weigh in on this. Just a thought. Would be good to have that conveneince.
Sin, your set-up looks darn fine to me. There are not many deviations you can go with that and keep the Rec. away from the pump. Ha. Ha. Later Hooker53

This is my set up... I don't think the wing would stay together. It would fold under the stress, UNLESS there is a hock the wing in somewhere in the front. Like the way the 110 Rascal does or the 4-star 120. Just my thoughts. Gerry

RE: TBM Shock Jet
Hooker53, While I agree that it would be nice to transport the Shock Jet wing as 2 pieces I would not do it. If we had designed it with a wing Tube like your Big Stick then yes it would be OK. But the short spar we use in the center does not fit like a wing tube would. I think there would be too much room for the wing to move up and down and bad things would happen. We had discussed building it with a wing tube but it would have added too much cost. We were trying to keep the price as low as possable for a Jet trainer. Glue the wing halfs together and go fly it you will love it.
thanks

Didn't mean to worry anyone. I was going to glue it. Don't want to give this great jet a bad name over a mishape. It's too cool for that. I think I'm really going to like it. If I ever have to rebuild the wing to this thing I will incorporate a wing tube. Gerry, good set-up. I will post a photo of my set-up when I get it done. What kind of filter is best in the tank? I have several Dif. kinds. I have seen folks use a in-line filter in a tank. Is anyone having good luck with that?? Later and thanks for the info guys. Hooker53

THANKS...... Yes, please post pictures!! I just used a heavy clunk. I also spliced the tygon and put in a brass tube to help keep the tygon from going to the front. You don't need a filter in it. You have one in the UAT and a inline PLUS one on your filler. 3 is good for me. Gerry

I used all the aileron possible, rudder about 1 inch each way and all the elevator you can get. flaps i have about 45 takeoff and around 85 landing. the extra elevator is only for good control at stupid slow speeds. it is not overly sensitive in any axis.

seflyer,
Good to hear it's not sensitive at those speeds. I guess I take a little longer at setting planes up. I like to shorten all the wires and fuel feeds to the length I need instead of just coiling them up. How did some of you glue your wings together? I thought about just adding glue to all areas including the Alum spare and root ribs and just pushing it together from the ends. I know the indenture at the flaps is a good place to get a clamp but that will also make it seperate at the front. I guess mabey a lot of tape on the front before you clamp it up on the trailing edge. Also thought about screwing it down to the Fuse but than you can't see the underside while it cures. I will work that out when I get to it. Thanks all

RE: TBM Shock Jet
five more flights on mine today, had fun. when I glued my wings i used 15 minute epoxy and stood the wing on end and just held it together for 10 minutes or so and added a little tape. I made all the lines and wire utility based, easy to service and access all items. function before form.

Good to hear someone is getting good flights on there shock. The weather here as not been good for a few weeks or at least when I have the time to fly. I have a 1/3 D-7 that is still in the trailer to Maiden and looks like the Shock will be ready in a week or two. Two maidens in one day???? Ha. Ha. Just don't know about that!! My team did a indoor Electric show for a big church today and got to fly some at least. Standing and holding the wings together did pass my mind. At least you can watch both sides that way. This being my first jet still have to rig a fueler up as well. So much to do. So little time!!! Glad you had fun today.

RE: TBM Shock Jet
anybody not using the stock wheels anyomore? mine are wearing very good, around forty flights and the nose wheel is wearing a bit due to teh brake function. I kinda like the stockers, they are light and up to the task of general flying. I would like to obtain some more stock wheels if anyone is will to get rid of theirs. Kevin

RE: TBM Shock Jet
Has anyone thought of lowering the plane? The landing gear has it sitting real high and as far as I can see there is really no need for it.
After about 18 flights off of grass I noticed that the bulkhead that the nose wheel mounts to loosened up. The nose gear is so long I can see where such a long moment arem could generate a lot of torque at the point where it is bolted down, the bulkhead. If the nose wheel strut didn't stick out so far it wouldn't put so much stress on the bulkhead. This could occur when applying the brake, when hitting a bump or a hole in the grass, or from a less than perfect landing.
Any thoughts about this, Pros, or Cons?????
Thanks
Bob

RE: TBM Shock Jet
Bob,
I have 70+ flights on mine all of about 7 off grass. I used thin CA and glued everything again and used blue locktite on the blind nuts. I also used Hysol in the critical areas, engine mount, nose gear former, wing joint. So far so good.
Hope this helps,
Jed

RE: TBM Shock Jet
Jed,
I made some 45 degree plywood gussets and glued them against the bulkhead, to the sides of the fuse and to the front compartment floor using Hysol. I put them in where the bottom hatch is on the nose. I don't think it's going anywhere now.
Thanks for the feedback.
