After reading all this, LittlePiston di you get your JJJ yet? I'm not a hater or basher, just another enthusiast curious about this engine.

I have not recived the Little JJ,however i have orderd a set of retracts from hobby city. As for brakes, Robbert from Electric jet factory sold me a set of 2" wheels and brakes about two years ago, i was wating for the artes "FLEA" and we all know want hapen to that.

The little Vortex feels tough and sturdy its should be fine for this size of turbine.

i wonder if the ecu that comes with the little JJ is the same as the one that came with my Wren 44, as i have a spair and could make it auto start

ecu is new small regal. if your ecu is for a 54 it will go only to 160,000 you would have to send it back to go be reprogramed to go to 240,000.
junior comes with blower to start. elec start is supposed to come soon. I have a bobcat25 also but I don't know how much room there would be air starting.

Does anyone have patents, registered commercial designs or even copyrights that they have defended in court to establish their validity?

To the first part, the answer is yes.

Yes indeed. AND let us know after 20 hours of operation if any service was required other than a glow plug change. OK?

Matt,

Thanks for looking that up. It is interesting.

Awhile ago, my job required a significant amount of patent work. What I learned, from some expensive lawyers, is a patent is 'validated' until it is challenged in court and upheld. This is due to the legislation behind patents. You can patent just about anything and the test is when you prove to a judge that it truly is a NEW idea. That is the tough part.

Dave

Why did he only take it up to 140,000 rpm's. I thought it max'd out at 240,000?

Well I am amazed the thing actually ran!

Just been looking on the JJ site and it looks like they have knocked off the flightworks pumps now too..

Hey what a coincidence. My job (as recently as 2 hours ago!!) requires a pretty good working knowledge of corporate IP strategy.

IMHO, what you have said is accurate, no question.

However, I would add that today, probably 95% of all IP issues are resolved by licensing or cross licensing, LONG before anything would ever go to court.

Stay tuned...........

Also we now back on track of what this thread was started for in the first place, not bashing jj and its customers...

Jet Joe did in FACT receive letters stating they were not "AMA Approved" therefore should not be doing business. Write them and ask for a copy. It was on their site for some time in the news section. No hallucinations, nice of you to post that stranger. Flown with me before?

As for informal flying. There are those of us in some areas of the country that refuse to fly within the formal system. Some of us due to extremely high dues, some due to petty rules to keep the "average Joe" from using their field and so on. Here in this area there's a list as long as my arm why to not fly with them. One of them being the accident rate that actual club members have, and another, having to change all of your clevises to "AMA approved" ones, not the ones that come with the kit, ARF, etc.. I would also like the liberty of flying my extremely fast P-51 at will, within safe parameters of course. I plan to purchase a turbine powered jet before next winter with all confidence, not arrogance of my abilities.

I agree that some form of organization, regardless of the actual location, is warranted. When the person or persons organizing such group makes it nearly impossible for a new prospective member to be a part of a club or group, I'll take the wide open spaces away from everyone else, or fly at a club farther away that is not convenient, but safe, friendly, and conducive to the hobby as many other clubs and sites are.

It just amazes me the number of people willing to so easily attack me, but not willing to look into these kind of things that put our hobby in a bad light. I'm accused of trolling and making things up by a small bunch, all one has to do is a little homework, and see I've done my homework. I don't post things just to post. I post from experience and from research making sure I do not cast a broad net but one just big enough.

Oh well, I don't suppose bringing things to light is within my posting credentials to some as I am only AMA # 830129

Sorry, but I am not impressed. Idle RPM in this turbine size is 99.000 RPM, and you get the thrust in the top RPMs, just like with any other turbine. 172.900 is at first sight not even close to half real thrust of what you would expect.
I would like to have an idea how much thrust it produces in Newton at its current max RPM.
The real fun only starts as from 220.000, and the difference between "fast" and "very fast" is setting mine(s) at 237.000 or at 241.000
