Dave,
What seam are you referring to ? I think the aileron nuetral is not in exact line ( flush ) with the flap... I believe and understand that the aileron nuetral is slightly above the flap... Aprox. the width of the aileron at the flap... Is this correct ?? This would in essence give slight reflux. If the aileron is even ( flush ) with the flap line that would aggravate the condition the Bob Klenke is refering to... I am speaking of nuetral for all flight conditions. Crow with full flap deployment is a completly different discussion.

Hi Folks.
Just wondering what the retract / struts options are for this plane. Can I still get a scale looking strut set anywhere? I love my Prolinks in the Flash but would want something more scale looking if I build one of these. Does anyone know if the 1/5 Skymaster Gear and Struts will fit? I built one of their Hawks once and liked the gear, struts, wheels and brakes.
Thanks,

Also, what do you recommend for a good looking scale cockpit?
Thanks,

Airtech Germany made the scale gear, I don't think he has any left-you can email him.
Only the Airtech Germany or Jet1A gear will fit the model.

DerJet make the best cockpit, it needs a little adjustment to fit.

Mine has no cockpit and sports gear...no one notices!! This is the instruction Manual airframe I've added bits to constantly..

Also my friend Paul's 2012. This has the DJ Cockpit...no pilot figure yet!

Hey Dom, I have some info on someone selling the scale gear(used) for this jet. Let me know if you are interested and I'll PM the info to you.

Dave, is Airtech really selling the Hawk gear as shown in the picture on the CARF site with those racing wheels and tires?

Thanks for the info guys. Some additional questions:

Which Dir Jet cockpit should I order. What Dir Jet model is it used in?

If I can find Struts (yes please Pm those details) are you sure the Prolink Retacts wont fit? Where do you get the Jet A1 or Airtechs? What is unique about the retract s that only those two brands will fit?

Thanks guys!

I have this Derjet cockpit and it is a lot of work to make it fit and it's 300$ if they have them. If I built another hawk I would pass on the cockpit . This hawk fly's so good as a sport plane, it has a large fuel tank and it's fast for a larger size plane.
It is for the 1/5 hawk on there website.

Yep, the angles and depth is specific to the wood work in the wing. The rails are staggered too.
The DJ cockpit needs the front binnacle needs trimming, not much else and it fits. The CARF model layout was designed with it in mind, balances without lead with the cockpit

Dom,
IMHO It is not worth the price tag for the scale gear (most likely why they don't sell them anymore) for this jet, as the airframe is not that detailed, no rivets or other scale features. It is however a very nice stand off scale version.
The only reason I have the scale gear in mine is they were part of the air frame when I purchased after it was damaged in a bad landing...

Guys BTW since the thread is alive again, what did most find for the sweet spot CG? , i havent flown mines for prob over two years by now but remember It felt a bit nose heavvy after addiing a pilot even though i removed about the same weight in lead from the nose. If i remember correctly it was originally balaced by the manual.

Manual I think is 195mm and safe, 205mm is what most of us fly

Thanks Dave! I have one of those EZ balancers but I remember that it was a bit difficult using it on the under part of the wing for the uneven surface from the wheel wells. Also makes it very sensitive, Would balancing it inverted make a difference?

Thanks!

Nope, it would be more stable, though its really not that critical to the mm. I never use a balancing device, I get it close, fly it and then adjust to feel. Everyone likes something different in feel.

I have used closed loop of steel cable between wing and fuselage. Wing bolts loose and you can slide it to find propper point of CG. Just lift your plane from the loop and make notes if it tips on nose gear or tail. Gear down and only hopper tank fuelled. I'd say this method is more accurate as it needs to be. And like said earlier adjust from that by flying.

Same loop can be used for weighting it all up with electronic fish scale.

After 30 flights without any issues, I'm still very happy with my Hawk.
One thing I noticed yesterday is that while I was cleaning the model, found some radial play (up and down, back and forward) on the stabilizer hinge tube.
During investigation found that the tube is pivoting in the wooden holes of the fuselage instead of the ball bearings. So the wooden holes are now slightly to big.
Anyone noticed this on there Hawk? What is the solution? I don't want to glue the carbon rod to the fuselage, as it is never possible anymore to remove the hinge plate.
Thanks!

Drill down through the plywood and into the tube, add a screw, or you can actually tap the wood with an M3 tap and put a long M3 x 10 set screw into the carbon tube wall.

Mine has been screwed since new.
