Hi,
I may be wrong, but i do not think the real f86 had polish alluminium finish like Patel's f86...
Will be interesting to know.

Morne

Looks like from the tail numbers there was more than one plane done up in this color, which maybe the difference in the finish on the planes.

Yep, I've collated all the little tweaks/changes and sent to Anton. I'm sure he can deliver what I've asked for [8D]
In all the research I haven't actually found a Skyblazer one 'polished' but it's cool none the less
Cheers,
Mark

RE: Skymaster F-86 1/5 first products
Well, I had them laying around so I went ahead and used them. complete overkill I know, but I didnt want to have to go out and buy some. The mount require full size servos, so I just threw these in.
Finished up the install yesterday and came out needing 770 grams to balance, so keep everything as far forward as possible!!
I really didnt change too much on this one. Kit had no problem areas, everything looks sound. Wings are really light, fuse is really light. Doesnt seem like it will be 40lbs. Will weigh today.
I modified a few things, but pretty straight forward stuff. I didnt like the elevator push rod setup, so I changed it with some longer carbon rods and I also changed the Rudder to Pull Pull with cables instead of the single carbon pushrod.
I added some supports for tailpipe to rear former.
Changed out the fuel tank hardware.
I tried using the supplied air quick disconnects again, but they just arent reliable. Get the Robarts.
Got the gear and doors super smooth. Very scale. I used some air restrictor on doors and gear and they rotate very scale. The gear are so nice!! Super light!! Brakes are awesome. Also put in restrictor on speed brakes and canopy. Canopy looks mechanical now!!
The wings rubbed flaps, so I had to sand the gap some and had to make some clearance on the aileron to wingtip to get it to throw the correct amount. Speedbrakes rubbed opening some, so I had to clear with some sandpaper. You dont want one of these hanging closed!!
Take the wing retaining bolts and grind them slightly pointed to get them to enter retainer easily.
I built some wood formers on the inlet so that I can secure the inlet and make it removable for easy access. The last thing I want to do is silicone the inlet on and then need to rip it out every time to access instal. I also strengthened the inlet up a little with some carbon.
One of the access holes for the vertical fin ended up being blocked by a stab so I had to relocated it down to underside and then I used some brass tubing to use as guide to nut.
Im working on pictures now.

Wow, that's nearly 6lbs heavier than Morne's?! Where is all the difference? I'd like to think Skymaster don't add 6lbs in paint :-)
Scott, did that include drop tanks?
Morne - you have less gravity in South Africa?!
Cheers

No drop tanks. But thats with pilot. I needed 1.7 lbs to balance.
I could have worked a little harder to get more instal forward. I also didnt use electronic valves. All mechanical with servos including a smooth stop.
I used Lipo's instead of Nicads also.

After running the engine yesterday I noticed that the pipe had some movement so today I decided to build a former to hold it better. This pipe is huge at 44" and I wanted it to be solid. I didnt want to trust this setup to two welded tabs on pipe. Im sure it would have worked fine, but usually always run closed system that is very solid.
I also had a bottom of an old bypass laying around so i decided to use it to shield everyting below.

Hey Scott,
Thanks for the pics - will come in v.handy.
I see there are 3 tanks. I read in another thread they hold about 6.2L of fuel? I don't suppose you know the capacity of the smaller middle tank do you? Was thinking I could use as a smoke tank?
Cheers,
Mark

Scott, I am wondering if you have flown the F-86 yet? Really looking for another flight report.
Also, I believe that you have built BV's F-100's and I am curious to know if the F-86 slats have the locking tabs on the bottom like the BVM F-100 to lock into the wing when retracted?
BTW, thanks for posting all of the pictures.
Thanks, Gary

Hi Gary,
Its been completed for a while but I havent had a free weekend. I hope to fly it this weekend for sure. I am going to Georgia next week and taking it also.
It does not have the tabs like the BV F100. I went overkill with the servos because they were laying around and im sure the slats will be fine. There is a tiny bit of movement when they are retracted and it would be very easy to make your own tabs if needed. I dont think it will be nearly as fast as the HUN either.

RE: Skymaster F-86 1/5 first products
Hi Everyone;
This is the final product of the Golden Crown that was beautifully done by Anton and John and it was brought to Al Ain UAE TOP JET 2009, a great looking plane indeed. the pictures of this plane also are on Jan edition of Jet Power magazine and Jet International that both were invited by me for the show. Skymaster also brought some of their beautiful planes for show. hope we can see you all for the next year show that will be on 2,3,4 and 5 December 2010.
