I have not yet flown mine. Mine will have a P180RX, but due to the recall on these engines, I am still waiting for my engine. I normally fly at sea level from grass runways. My F86 is 48lbs empty - with full bypass and drop tanks.
Scott, are you flying from grass or hard surface runway? What is your total empty weight? Are you flying with or without drop tanks?
Cheers,
Jan

Hi!
Apologies for digging out this old thread, but i have a few questions for the F-86 owners out there. I discovered that the tires on the main gear are somewhat slipping on the rims on both oleos. The rims are barely turning freely. Before I start dismantling the whole wheel i thought somebody might have an idea what the cause for that is. The tires do not seem to be fully inflated (didnt do that because i did not have a hand-pump available). Maybe that helps?
I bought the model just recently (used) and i am planning to use a Behotec 180G for power. I also have the new fuel tank configuration which seems to be a good thing from what I've read. I tried to mail Skymaster a couple of days ago but no response yet. Maybe they are on holidays? I need some small spare parts and touch up paint.

Tugs,
The first that comes to mind is that the original owner fly the plane without sanding down the varnish finish on the carbon brake discs and therefor these have seized up. This means the tires are turning in the hubs because the brakes are solid and the hubs are not moving (or moving with great resistance).
Good luck, hope you can get it all apart.
Cheers,
Jan

Thanks! Yes, the carbon brake disks still had their "shine" but after i dismantled the brake and then put them back together, the rim was spinning freely. I have to test the brakes and i am not sure what caused the wheel to be stuck. The next problem is that the tires do not inflate properly... I will report back, probably with some photographs.
Cheers

Hi!
I am getting closer to maiden my F-86, so i have some questions here for other Sabre owners:
- Is the CG of 390mm good for first flights?
- I have the new fuel tank configuration, can I expect problems during take off-roll? 180 Behotec for power, 700 feet runway.
- I own the old version of the plane with one carbon wing spar. Just for a piece of mind - Do I have to worry about that and be gentle with the sabre?
- any other bad habits? Control throws as given in the manual?
Thanks very much
