Now the system is instaled in my maverick I have powered everything up and the EGT temp is eratic when sitting on the bench, to the point that it tries to cool the engine down as it thinks it's 300 deg. This seems to hapen when the TX is within 12 inches of the ECU, surly this can not be ok can it?

Jason,
Run the engine and see what happens on a range check!!!!!! By moving the tx away....Seems just like an engine we had, not so long ago!

Dont know Jason but it is possible that you are inducing RF into your EGT probe/ECU by the close proximity of your Tx. Try changing frequency and , seriously, just moving you tx a little way from the ECU ! The RAM 500 is a gem but max depth of the EGT probe is just 1/16th inch.

Well, Ive tried changing the Xtals and it was just the same, I have also tried th TX on PPM modulation, taken the Jaico reg out of line, pulled the ECU out the plane, disconected all other servos ect and it still does the same thing, so if the TX gets anywhere near the ECU or the GSU (or whatever RAMs term for the info screen is) the EGT rockets up to 300+ degrees and it then starts to cool it down cos the ECU thinks the engine is hot.
ANY MORE IDEAS ANYONE???

Jason,
Your EGT Probe may be malfunctioning. Or you maybe getting interference on the ECU itself from your Transmitter. Where is your receiver antennae? Is it close to the ECU/or the EGT probe? If so try moving them. If not then I would call ram and see what they say. The motor is a gem and is a delight to run once setup correctly.

When our engine probe played up it didn't switch its self onto fuel was just running on gas....But suppose if its a dodgy connections could still play up, but probably more like a faulty ECU...Look at a bloke who ive told you about before tapping the ecu and engine stopped.

It's really simple, just collapse the TX antenna or have it more then 1 foot away. I have never seen this on 72/50 mhz radios here but it is possible on the 35 or 40 mhz system you're probably using that you could get some RF swamping going on. I see this with my 8417 servo on the rudder of my Bandit. If I get the TX antenna right next to the fin it will jitter. Solution, I don't fly the model within 6 inches of the TX!
Seriously, I would make sure to do a thorough range check before you fly.
