I agree with Todd about no overheating problems. Even standing still there are no overheating problems. A friend of mine was holding the nose of my CBM F-16N as I warmed up the engine and he said that he could feel a strong inflow at the chin scoop when he put his hand over it. The prop being so close to the tailcone is probably what allows the good duct-flow even standing still. Since there is such good suction at the chin scoop, I imagine that air is also being drawn in between the engine head and engine head cut out hole in the tailcone. I have another pusher without any sort of ducting around the engine and I do have problems with overheating when I static-run it.
I also agree with Todd about recommending the YS 45 for this plane. But I would also strongly recommend a tunned pipe. My first flights were without but, it is just so much more fun with the pipe.

My F-16N came in last night. I watched the video and it really does not seem too difficult to build. How long is it taking you to complete the model. I assume that it will be more than the 2 hours it took me to watch the video :-)
I am trying to plan my next project (one of many) and I am curious how long I should plan for this to take?
Also, How does it perform off of a grass field? I do not have access to pavement. Can I put larger tires on it?
This thing looks like if flys really well in the video, is that smoke and mirrors or is it really easy to fly?
Thanks

It took me 2 days and I was ready to put the 2 halves together. I ran out of parts so it isn't done yet, but it will be by the end of the week end.
I would imagine if a guy got busy it would be ready to fly in a month.
Thunderbird for mine I think.

Well, I really hate to hear that about combat models company. Here's what happened to me: I bought 2 cbm planes from ebay. A f-18 and an A-10. I ordered the stuff for the f-18 back in february and they cashed the check march 4 and I still haven't receivfed the parts. I finally got an e-mail saying that the parts were shipped and must have been lost in the mail or something. I turned them over to the better business bureau of San Diego. I would suggest everyone do the same that has any trouble with them. It's the only way something will be done about it.
I really enjoyed reading this post. I too am learning alot about pushers and tuned pipes. Looks like I'm trying to step up with the big dogs. Just can't bite the bullett with the ($).

fill out an online request . just search for better business bureau and file complaint. Since I filed, They have sent my stuff out same day they received the complaint from the bbb. I've got a tracking number and my package left california 2 days ago.
I hate to do things like that, but I didn't know how that company was espically with the bad rep on the internet.
Question: Where can I get a "ready made" tuned pipe like that byron on the first page of this thread? And will it fit the ys 45? ehobbies has the cheapest engine but it doesn't come with a pipe. help???

I just bolted on a Jett engineering turbo in cowl muffler on my ys 45 side exaust. Wow !!!!!! It performs as good if not better than a full length tuned pipe and manifold. It is light and small and really kicks. I was turning an apc 11X7 at 13000. Great engine, excellent muffler. Go to Jettengineering.com for more info. MAD

Hi Guys. I am currently building an F-16N as well and love it.
I have a KB 7.5 (.45) with a front intake and rear exhaust and tuned pipe. I know these were originally used on the Diamond Dust models and put them over 200MPH. This should work fine pushing the F-16N shouldn't it?
A few of my other toys for anyone interested...

A couple of suggestions. If I were to build this jet again I would do away with the spectra string and hook up air cylinders on the doors and the other would be to cap all of the aileron/rudder surfaces and pockets with balsa and use pin hinges. Also I would reinforce the area where the landing gear mounts are glued in with some carbon cloth before you glue them. Good luck!

If you want to get off the ground make sure to put the ys45 in the thing. I was running the ys with a stock pipe and it barely got off our 200 ft grass runway. get the ys with a tuned pipe and you will be a happy camper

Todd,
I didn't know you flew the CBM F-16?? Nice looking one, by the way.....
Todd is right, this model is fun to fly, and it can teach you a lot. It looks great in the sky, and it flies very well on a YS .45. If you substitute that engine for something bigger, you're only going to wish you hadn't.
I had the second production kit of this plane to ever come out of the molds. In fact, the company used to use (and recommend) the ASP .46 until Yours Truly turned them on to the YS .45! I had the pleasure of watching it through the design stage, and got to see most of the test flights. I was also the first customer to have one flying in San Diego, and I ended up building that plane four times over the years. So, I'm kind of partial to it, and I'm very sad that they've had the problems they're having, because if nothing else, their airplanes do fly well.
Listen to Todd, he's 100% on all aspects with this plane. Good luck!

Hey Shaun!
Yep....Flew the livin cr*p out of mine over a period of 2 years. Was my "Jet Trainer" for the most part. I really liked the F16N, It taught me a ton and had a blast flying it. Chewed up more APC 10x7 pushers than I could count
(takes lots of practice to land without hitting the prop
) When Jaye bought the Yellow Aircraft F-16 I turned my CBM over to him for flight training and....It is still flying today!!! I would imagine that it now has well over 300 flights. Even thought about building a new one but I dont even have paint on my Bobcat yet! Maybe some day....
Regards,
Todd

Your going to have a weight issue with the .61. To offset the aft CG with the .61 mounted in the back your going to need allot of weight in the nose. Now your wing loading is up so high that the plane will fly like Sh%@#t. I have a YS .45 on mine and am going to put it on a diet. I'm going to shift the radio, servos and battery pack as far forward as I can, so I won't need ballast.
I just haven't had the time to work on it, but it's on my list of things to do.
Regards,
Chris

HI,
I'm just about to finish with my CBM A-10. i've got a few questions.
1) did anyone make the aileron trim tabs? how well do they work?
2) What are you using for pylons, for the bombs/mavericks?
3) What type of fuel proofer and sealing did you use?
4 What type of paint works best? i want a desert camo design.
Thanx, any help would be appreciated.

Todds absoulutly correct use a YS 45 for the jet and make the modifications as mentioned. I have todds jet and it is a great flyer for what it is. The performance for this jet was unbelievable!!!! I'll try and post a picture of what Todd did for the pipe. I don't recommend modification to ducted fan as i feel it really doesn't gain much except more pain in your*&%$#.
