Default NiZn battery question

Anyone using these batteries yet? If so, are they really better than Eneloops or other NiMh batteries?

Remember the neloops are 2000mamps, not 1.6.

Eneloops are 1.2V/cell; the NiZn cells are 1.6V - if I've done the math correctly the capacity of the NiZn cells is around 1500mAH compared to 2200 for the Eneloops ...

Mike,
It says 1.6v 2500mwhzinc above the pic of the batts?? V..

I got this info off the web:

>While the NiZn batteries have potential, they won't rival Eneloops and conventional NiMHs for some time. Consider: the current milli-Amp-hour capacity for Quantaray Super Z batteries is 1500mAh. Top of the line NiMH AAs are 2850mAh. The NiZn batteries have a self-discharge rate of near 1% per day...about that of conventional NiMHs, so no challenge there to the LSD batteries like Eneloops. The tech behind the new batteries is interesting, though. We'll see what they can do in a year or two.<

[sm=49_49.gif] Dude, that is Watts per hour, not Amperes ... I agree tho, Eneloops are better for our purposes anyway.

Sorry, I didn't read the upper area well.
But I'm using the Eneloops in my 10X, and
I leave the trans. in no charge for 5-6 days after
using it and still the voltage reads over 10.6 volts.
So they are excellent I bought the pack ready to
go from Chad.

Okay, here's the deal on the new NiZn batteries. As many of you know, I stay up on the battery technology....mainly because I get bored. Asnyway, they are a higher voltage, 1.6 as has been stated above. The voltage issue alone makes them not a good candidate for transmitter packs. 8 x 1.6 = 12.8 volts! You might as well run a 3 cell lipo (which you should not do in any Spektrum xmitter. Also, 1.6v is the NOMINAL voltage, so they will peak even higher!

The next, last, and worst thing is.....their capacity sucks. To try and cover this, they try using MWh instead of MAh. Do not be fooled.

So far, the Eneloops and Hybrind Nimh are still the best option.

Feel free to call, email, pm, or post with any questions.

Chad

From a non RC perspective, there are some consumer electronics applications that use throwaway AA batteries (1.5V) where these cells could be ideal as their higher cell voltage might not be an issue.

Thanks Chad (& everyone else) I didn't pay attention to the 2500mwh on the packaging and they
don't mention the 2500mwh in the specifications. I was about to purchase the single cell AA and
AAA ENELOOPS when the NIZn caught my attention.
