Default ECU position

I am fitting out my latest model, a Jet Legend L39. The idea is to be able to start the engine without removing the cockpit, therefore the ECU will be in the engine bay. having installed everything I am now worried that the ECU might suffer if it got too hot. Here is a photo of the installation.

Doesn't look like a good spot due to heat. What happens when the engine flames.

Under normal conditions, it looks okay....you could put some ceramic blanket over it if there are concerns from heat

Very simple fix, make yourself a partition wall out of ply and cover with aluminum tape, or just use thin sheet metal

look at post #203 in this thread

Dom used thin sheet metal to make protective covers for his servos...

I would move it a bit forward and over and do what rich says... It will be more in front of the motor. I ran my wren two seasons in a similar setup.. but it was near the intake, not the exhaust.. IF its in the airflow you are ok.

Partition would not be a bad idea.... Or you could use one of [link=http://dreamworksrc.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=709]THESE[/link] and mount the ECU outside the engine bay up to 18"!

Hi.

On my SM L-39, I also wanted to access everything without having to remove the cockpit. The ECU, pump etc is placed in the front, but 1/0 panel, Emcotec BIC, all charging and fuel and air filling are all on the panel in the engine bay.
Works great and no need to open the cockpit.

Here's what I did out of roof flashing. Bent four plates, two for the top half and two for the bottom half of the servos. After each flight I touch them to see how hot they are. Barely feel any heat from the exhaust cone.
