Well I have made alot of progress since the last post. The tanks where glassed and coated with a butter coat of lite bondo to level everything. About 90% of the bondo was sanded off and then they where primered. there is still a few spots to work with spot putty.

I also finished glassing the wings and control surfaces. They too recieved thier first coat of primer. Again there is some spot putty work but not much.

Good stuff man! I'd hazard a guess that you'll enjoy flying it even more after the repair job!

Thanks Bob

I weighed up the wing. The old wing panel that was still in one piece weighed in at 1-3/4 pounds with paint and No retracts or servos. So given the other wing was about the same. that puts the old wing at 3-1/2 pounds.

The new wing without paint retracts or servos is 1-1/4 pounds. Given they are both the same weight, That puts the new wing at 2-1/2 pounds. I doubt very much that I will have a pound of paint on the new wing. So bottom line is I will loos at least 1 pund of weght with the new wing.
The plane flew great before. It should do better with a pound less on the wings. I had a Simjett 2300 in it before and the overall weight dry was 23 pounds. I am going to try it with my Wren MW54 that is putting out 14.5pounds. Should do pretty good with weight withthe lighter motor and new wing. I hope to be no more than 19- 20 pounds max weight .

No

That won't happen Rich. I have done this many times before. I heat the garage up first and get everything ready to primer. The garage will heat up to about 80 to 85 degrees. When I am ready to spray. I shut the heater off. the garage will stay warm for about 45 minutes. Once I am done spraying, I open the garage door about 12 inches, Its a 16 foot door and turn the heater back on. This works well for primering.

Here it is with the white being sprayed on. Thats my brother shooting the paint. Now my secret is out, I can spray but I tend to put too much on at one time.

The paint is PPG Enamel. Once everything is done it gets a coat of Poly urithane clear to seal it. Sorry for the poor quality on the pics, I forgot my camera and had to use my Phone. I will bring the camera for the next color.

Well here is some progress. We had a snow storm over the weekend that dumped about 10 inches of snow. I did manage to get the Sabre masked of and my brother shot the Silver on it today. Next is the blue. Its getting very close.

Well here she is ready for rivets Decals and clearcoat. I weighed the wings and I lost 1/2 pound of weight from the old wings. Old ones were 1-3/4 pounds each. The new ones came out to 1-1/2 pound each. As she sits right now with no equipment, she is 9 pounds. I hope to come in at 18 to 19 pounds with the smaller motor. I am going to put my Wren MW 54 in it. It puts out 14-1/2 pounds.

I am figuring 4 pounds for turbine with equipment and tail pipe.
2 pounds radio
2 pounds landing gear
1 pound fuel tanks.
That puts me at 18Lbs. we'll see how close I get.

Good job converting that from a prop jet to a ducted fan. I did see the tail end of the test flight and it looked like it flew pretty good.

I hope to have my F-86 back in the air no later than next month. Power is going to be a KingTech K80 with 17.5 pounds of thrust. With the weight loss from the wings and the lighter motor, should be a perfect motor for it.

I just need to finish a few rivits and she will be ready for decals and clear coat.

After the clear coat she will be ready for e quipment install which should only take a few evenings.

I really am looking forward to flying her again.
