im thinking of getting FEJ F18, but i heard some horror stories about the quality of this jet. Is it worth getting? I have been in RC for a long time and Im a strong believer of you get what you paid for. i know that FEJ arent expensive compared to others so to me that may say something. thanks..

Before you praise or bash any manufacturer, the question as stated is "FEJ F18F"??? My question to you is what size are you looking for. At this point only FEJ has the 1/7, and 1/6 size.
Without assuming anything, I have built the Skymaster F18F, Yellow F18C twin, and 2 FEJ 1/7 F18F's, with a 1/6 on the way. So your question of is FEJ for you, well I am asking what are you looking for??
Fair enough??

I’ve not long received my FEJ L39 1.5th scale and I’m more than impressed with the quality and especially the paint finish. The kit arrived well packaged with no broken or missing parts. The communication during the order process again was very good answering any questions I had within a couple of hours of sending. I think it’s all down to personal choice, if you dig hard enough you will find negative comments across all the manufactures. Good luck and hope you will be happy with your choice.

Don't know about their other models, but I have a Rafale & after around 30 flights the retracts were falling apart. The metal is very soft. I will not be buying another Fly Eagle product.

I would say that FEJ is well worth the money, well made and nicely painted, the retracts on most Asian jets are poor quality, I usually replace them with Model Avaition products retracts or Behotec.
I have a large FEJ F-16, very pleased with it, there is still some tweaking to do with it but I have not found an Asian jet that does not need that.
I would buy a FEJ again

I have had 3 F-18F from Skymaster, the jet fly's excelent if you have the CG on the right spot. Very good quality, the paint job is the best you can get in an ARF for that price...

Playerpete,
I have an early FEJ F-15 and Rafale and honestly, although they look good, the quality under the hood is problematic - what Jascat100 said about the gear is spot on, and I've had lots of other problems as well. That being said, the newer/larger FEJ models seem to be coming out with better quality (they obviously figured out what carbon fiber is, or where to get it!). On the other hand however, they do seem to still be having landing gear problems (e.g., I have not heard/seen of anyone successfully operating their F-100 (or F-14 either) gear in flight)
In general, if you're an experienced jet guy any you don't mind fiddling to get stuff working, and perhaps replacing the landing gear with new units, then try an FEJ. If you want works out-of-the-box and good support after, then go Skymaster or Jet Legend through Global Jet Club.

These were not your best landings, to be honest. Any other airframe would have disintegrated, long before your thirtieth landing

Its probably ok once you do all of the mods that have been EXTENSIVELY covered here on RCU. Before these are done though, I wouldn't put it in the air. Also, their pipes are not recommended.

I built 1 fej and have seen 2 others. First impression is always good but when you get into it you will discover it is junk. The truth hurts to hear. So many problems I will not type it here.

I think that every day that goes by FEJ products will continue to improve. There is a steep learning curve. Their products have continued to improve and prices are still very low. I dont think its fair to compare their early products with the current. Chiming in on this thread about a product you bought a year or two ago or even six months ago isnt realative anymore.
Some of the same guys are still beating the same dead horse about issues long corrected. Are they perfect? Heck No!! Are they trying? Heck yea!! Do they make a great, affordable product? Absolutely! Will you need to do some additional work? Yes, same as any other company, but they continually improve upon the product. I think the quality of the gear still needs improvement, but the structure is becoming superior to other manufacturors. They are quick learners.

I recently saw a Skymaster Viperjet kit, in all honesty, my FEJ Liberty build looks better. Are they perfect? No, but are any of the Chinese arf's? No. They are priced far less than anything else, and they are improving. I think they are worth buying personally but expect to do a little more work than a pure ARF might be. Check things over and be smart about it. They are leaps and bounds better than they were a year ago.

I had one of the very first FEJ 1/7 F-18F in the US. I recently ordered and received a brand new one. There is no comparison to the quality of the kit, as now delivered, to the original one I got a year ago. This was FEJ's first foray into the larger jets and they have learned quite a bit in that time. There is now very little one has to do to make this an EXCELLENT flying aircraft. Lessons learned over time have now been incorporated into the newest version of this particular jet. I do not hesitate, in the least, to recommend it to someone capable of flying and landing a scale jet! I have enjoyed flying my first one so much that I ordered and paid for another, even though the first one is still flying well!

You are right, it is a pig of a thing to land. The slightest bump & the flex plates broke. The steel trunion pins wore an elongated hole in the retract sideplates. the metal was like butter. By the time you add up the cost of fitting items of better quality, it is cheaper to pay a little extra & buy Skymaster or Jet Legend.
Good luck with your Fly Eagle AT3 kit you bought
. Hope you have better luck.

That's why when I bought the Rafale, I passed it on to you
