DerJet Cougar in the UK

RE: DerJet Cougar in the UK
Hi Dave
It's a nice looking model, look forward to seeing one close up...
Are the A123 packs something M&R have tested, sell recommend etc...? Just curious as I'd like to try some in a few of my models but have no practical experience of using them.
Thanks
Alex

I've done a little testing, this is our first model with them fitted.
I do however have several customers who use nothing but A123 so I'm happy with them.
Regards
Dave

If using 12x, I can send you my 12x set up via cyber space. I will email what knobs/switches do what. Program if you want it, assumes set up as previously posted. Let me know.
I forwarded the display picture of your Cougar to DJM to post on their web site.

RE: DerJet Cougar in the UK
We finally flew the Cougar today, what a sweet aeroplane. Today at CJ there was a slight cross wind, but TO was still in 80-90m and I didn't use full power, the model floats into the air and feels very light, We probably have less flap than Eric and gang recommend as we lengthend the flap control horns after finding a lot of "blow back" due to the lower hinge line and bottom horn, Colin can post a picture of what we did.
I'd like a little more flap to suit my/our expected grass operation and flying style. Flight times are 12 minutes + as we only used part throttle through most of the two flights today, it looks great flying at scale speed, we were flying today with around 22lb thrust, so a P80SE would be great.
Slow speed handling was great, rolls crisp, loops fine and control balance nice (I'll get Colin to measure movements and post Expo we have now) Having moved everything possible to the nose its actually a little nose heavy, but this allows for a heavier tail pipe (thicker material) Eric's C of G is good as spec'd. Not one peep of trim full tank, it did does change as the fuel burns off.

RE: DerJet Cougar in the UK
I have to say I am suitably impressed. I dont build all my jets due to lack of time but I really enjoyed building this one. I had the usual pre flight nerves even though Dave W was doing the maiden but not only did everything work perfectly she flew like a dream. Definitely the easiest flying scale jet I have ever flown and thats saying something as I thought the CARF Hawk couldnt be beaten on that front. The finish that Der Jet put on these things is just amazing as well.
I will get her down from her pride of place hanging in my workshop and post the latest setup that Dave dialed in as it flew so very well. C of G was as others have recommended - in the middle of the front wing spar.

Checked your C of G yet? We added 2oz of tail weight having moved most stuff forward, we didn't need everything forward!

RE: DerJet Cougar in the UK
Hi Guys
I flew my Cougar for the first time this weekend and the model flew great as others have already posted. My cg was slightly forward of the front joiner with air trap full and reserve fuel in the tank. So I'll be looking to move something rearward or install some tail weight.
The one main problem that I've encountered was the fuel tank started leaking after the second flight. I looks likes it's got heaps of tiny pin holes all over the corners, both bottom and top. So this is something to fix before I can fly again.
Other changes I've made during the build was to replace the tailpipe after reading of a model in the UK that suffered a failure of the pipe supplied, fixed the body flaps so these are made inoperable and made the arrestor hook inoperable as well.
Otherwise a very nice model and certainly attracts a lot of attention and nice comments.
I'll post some photos of my build and flying when I get a chance.
Cheers
Rod W.

Congratulations.
It wasn't a UK model that had a tailpipe issue, he was in the states and the turbine was too close to the tube.
We are running full flap system and the hook, both work well!

Certainly is an excellent aeroplane with great handling, no issues on the test flight, no trim needed clean, only a slight roll at full flap that we dialed out on the matchbox. Not at all heavy in flight and we will fly it from our grass site in the next few weeks.
Very happy with the product and DJ have showed what a great company they are by contacting me about little changes like the flap horns. We have a winner for sure

We had Colin Gontier's Cougar out again today, more flap since last time and that was about it, three more flights today proved once again what a great aeroplane it is.

Paul Baker dropped in his camera card yesterday and trawling through the thousands of shots! I found some interesting ones, like the gear going away.
