Default KingTech K-80

I just recieved my KingTech K-80. I did get it mounted on the test stand and had the opertunity to run it up. All I can say is WOW. She fired right up with NO adjustments needed to the ECU. I did 2 run ups on her, and she ran perfect both times. I plan on doing a few more test runs this Friday 4-2-2010 at the Nighthawks in North Jackson, Oh. Anyone wanting to see this new motor is welcome to come out.

Once My F-86 is done, it will be the home for the K-80. I will post pics of the install in the F-86. The F-86 is going to make a good platform for the K-80 as it is 17.5 pounds of thrust.

Here a few pics of it on the test stand.

Hi,

Yes, there is only 1 small adjustment you will need to make to your ECu setting... that is to lower down your glow plug power from 40 to 30...

check out http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_92..._1/key_/tm.htm

Enjoy =)

Isaac

The factory sets it pretty hot at 40, but at the same time this ensures a quick ignition, if anything, the included medium heat plug might wear out a little sooner. So, Isaac, you are right, one might dial that down a little, and it should still fire up quickly.

I personally have a surplus of medium hot plugs (Fox standard Long) and I dialed it down to 20 or there about and still fires up every time on the first attempt.

Have lots of fun with K-80s guys,

Barry

I did 2 more runups on with the K-80 on the test stand Fri. Both went very good. I did some simulated flight by running where I thought it might run in the F-86. She never missed a beat. I did some slams from idle to full throttle and back. The K-80 ran flawless. Now I just need to get the F-86 finished and get the K-80 installed.

If anyone is thinking about a 17Lb thrust motor, the K-80 is the way to go. Barry with www.kingtechusa.com and he will get you set up.

Got mine from Todd at dreamworks, also a great person to deal with. It's so cool that Kingtech in the US has such great support.

Hi Roy, I actually had the first 25 hours on my #100 with Shell's counter part of Mobile DTE-Lite, the Shell Tellus 32, with no more than average carbon built-up. I also have buddies using 2 cycle oil with good result, but good old turbine oil is what the factory currently endorses.

If anyone wants to use anything other than turbine oil, please let us ok it first, so that the warranty will remain effective. Meanwhile, we'd be able to gather more data and learn from one another.

Thanks in advance,
Barry

Hi,

What make is the Sabre?
The Sabre is an HP Jets F-86.

Here is a link to the Rebuild thread.
It was actually a kit. Remember when we use to build kits?

I guess the proper answer to the question would have to be "NO" for now. But as a trial purpose it would be OK (we need more data and experience in order to OK a turbine oil substitute), what I mentioned and encouraged is that if one likes to use anything other than turbine oil, please check with us first, so that the warranty will remain effective.

If you'd like to use DTE-lite, please write me a quick note through email, including the current cumulative time and I'll input it in your profile, so your warranty will remain effective.

Thanks Roy, Happy Easter to you too!

Chris:

KingTech Taiwan is making a FOD screen for the K-80 right now, and I should be getting them in a couple of weeks. I will email you and all the registered K-80 owner when it becomes available.
