Have a CARF J-10 with K210 motor. Keep getting a flame out when doing Flat spins. If spins are kept gentle all is OK. No air in UAT. Debating if there is a Turbine inlet air problem others may know about?? Seen some J10's online with large air holes cut out of tail cone.

Thanks in advance.

Flat Spins

I like to do flat spins . I don’t spin real fast and I have not had any engine issues. I don’t know how much time is on your engine but you might have worn bearings. The gyroscopic loads on turbine bearings are much higher in thrust vectoring aircraft. I have my bearings changed at 12-14 hours instead of the usual 25.

I can say that intake air flow is not the problem unless yours is somehow obstructed.

if you can hover with no issues then your intake air flow is fine.

K210 is new less than an hour on it. Can hover the the J10 with no flame out issues. Positive and Negative flips No issues, Just moderate speed flat spins and she flames out. IF its not an air intake into turbine issue and there is no air in UAT, nor fuel leaks down stream of pump, maybe I need to start looking at wiring issue??

NOTE: 3 Flame outs in 6 flights and the K210 has auto restarted every time before I ever made it to the runway. I either kept flying or at least did full pattern approach before landing under power.

J-10

Flew mine on a JC P-180 and did plenty of spins and never had an issue. I do have a couple of KingTechs in two other jets and one of the things I noticed that bothers me about the system connection is the cable leads into the ECU. They have a lot of side-to-side play after connection. I’ve not had any issues but maybe there could be A greater potential for intermittent connection when doing the spins?? Just a guess. Sounds like your fuel system is OK. What kind of UAT are you using? I had a BVM UAT in mine.

bake 05-19-2020 01:57 PM

I have a BVM UAT in it.
Will have a look at possible wiring issues.

Bobneal1 05-19-2020 02:14 PM

What does your ECU say the reason for the flameout was?

bake 05-20-2020 12:13 AM

Failed to ever check it after flame out flights. Last flight it did not flame out and of course it now shows: UserOff

FWIW, Like Ken I found the servo lead connections to my King Tech ECU to be very loose. One thing I have done (starting with my helis, which have high G, loads years ago) is run a bead or blob of hot melt glue along the ECU case top and servo type plugs. Don't get it into the case! It just holds everything together and is easily peeled off for service. It's nice that the KT ECU is metal cased because that trick can damage the stickers on some case tops.

Just incase your interested! Very cool Aircraft! After seeing this thing fly in person a few times it has sparked my interest!

Hello j10’ers
I just ordered a J-10 and would like some servo recommendations. What would you suggest?
TIA

I used JR DS8911 HV servos on everything except for steering. What scheme did you get?

At this level of investment, I employ MKS:
(4) HBL-599: canards / ailiavators / rudder
(2) HBL-575 (low profile): vectored thrust
(1) HBL-665: steering

husafreak 08-19-2020 01:15 AM

Without being too specific I would say you vector servos should be fast and powerful, especially powerful, the gyro needs both to do the job

Dansy 08-19-2020 03:35 AM

While I normally used MKS, this time around I choose to try the Jeti Ditex TD 2612S servo’s all around except for the Steering....I’m curious to see the result (torque amps ect) via telemetry...

if it doesn’t work out I can always replace them with MKS......the 599 should be great they are powerful and fast.

this is my scheme...

Thanks for the servo suggestions j10’ers. I have to say I am partial to MKS or Hitec. ( I’ll check out the MKS599 shortly).
As for scheme, I went conservative with the Display scheme. A few well placed decals should pretty her up sufficiently:).
My initial plan of attack: Cortex Pro,Powersafe RX, Kingtech 210 and an Intairco UAT. Suggestions always welcome.

I like the nozzle....might try to do something like that....

I’m going with this.....

CB220
REX12 and REX3 900
Ditex TD 2612S and TD1906S on steering
Cortex Pro
Holy Smoke, smoke pump with Bad Dog Smoke tube...
Digitech Motor telemetry.....
K210 G4

Speaking of painted nozzles; this realistic paint work was done by Ozzie, owner of Ozaero Custom Designs:

That’s the kit nozzle painted? Nice...but I don’t need that much on a J-10...but that would be great on a scale plane...

rbtgold 08-19-2020 02:40 PM

Ok, I just spoke to my local J-10 buddy. For the past 2 seasons he has been running MKS HBL380 servos all around ( except for the nose gear). Im leaning towards the same.

Dansy 08-20-2020 03:24 AM

When I select servo’s I always try to put thing in perspective.....this is what the original J-10 designer used back in the days...yes the 380 would work fine ;)

Question, did you guys that received kit recently got the CF tubes for the Vectors (2x 1m and 2x.5m) with your kit?

J10 JR TX Radio setup

Preparing the things for my new PilotRc J10B turbine aircraft equipment will be;
Pilot rc new J10B aircraft
KingtechK210 turbine
JR HV servos all around
powerbox igyro3e gyro
powerbox evolution power unit

I am experienced pilot both bulding and flying , been flying over 30 years but this will be my first jet and first delta wing vector thrust plane. I do not know how to setup my radio for this plane ,
I am a JR fun and has JR new 14X4 dmss 14Ch TX.
How should I go to setup this delta wing plane? I mean via TX software or via Gyro software?
If tx software where should I connect canard servo? thrust vector servos? which mix should I adjust etc etc.
or anyone using JR TX for this plane could send me his TX setup
thks

Hello, I just received my J10 and yes the Vector CF rods were included. HOWEVER, a number of plywood components were not......batt tray, tank mount etc.....and the laminated electronics tray. The CARF Rep is working on it but I can always craft these parts ( if need be). On the plus side .... the craftsmanship is top notch!
Shipping via Old Dominion from California to Wisconsin was about 4 days and the boxes were in excellent shape.

Dansy 08-29-2020 08:31 AM

I had all the rest of the parts in mine...except those rods......CARF didn’t want to send them....so they give me a credit instead, actually hard to source, I got some on the way will see how they fit...also Ray sent his from a damage J-10.....will see if that box survive the trip to Canada...
