RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
Miguel,
Great work! Thanks for sharing it with us. I thought I have seen enough ViperJet build stuff haning around Tams shop, but it is always nice to see how other people do things. I love that insulation for the servo leads, is it heavy? You are going to love all those strobe lights...Tam has one with strobes on the wingtips only, and it is sooo coooool doing long sweeping photo passes with those lights blinking, I cant imagine how cool yours will be. Awsome work as usual, and I cant wait to hear from you after the test flight. Best Regards, Your friend Dave |
RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
Thanks Dave.
I can't wait to see those lights in the air, which btw i'm going to be able to turn them on/off from my radio ;) The insulation for the servos leads is not heavy and they are available in different colors. I use it in all the jets I had work so far and is also good for the air hoses where are to close to any heat source. In the cases where you don't have a bypass....using this sleeve, for my taste, is a most, for unwanted situations like a hot start.... as an example. I know a lot had been said about Viperjet construction...I consider this thread as a small grain of sand in honor to a plane that I really like A LOT....and to everyone interested in jump in here to ask or tell about it. T minus 5 days for maiden [8D] Beside Dave, I'm really enjoying your love for nature...specially for the ducks ;) Later, MS |

RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
Migual nice work,
With all work your confidance level in this model is raising mine with every post. Mine is done and complete ready to fly with an all up weight dry of 23 lbs using an AMT Pegasus SP. Heres a few pix. http://j***amily.org/rcalbums/mfulle...gar_VI_011.jpg http://j***amily.org/rcalbums/mfulle...gar_VI_012.jpg http://j***amily.org/rcalbums/mfulle...gar_VI_013.jpg I have had a setback that has kept me from getting airborne what do you think. First the Peggy SP was only registering 115K rpm, same as a standard peggy on a KC. and is was spooling up really slow like 5-7 seconds. unlike KC one. When removed for replacement there was brown hot spots on full bypass, My bypass is a Gary mueller version., and stainless tailpipe was discolored brown on top side. Also tape that held up wires in nylon braid had melted free. So now I'm real curious as to WHY a bypass?, yours is of a type I've never seen. Mine can be easily removed as bypass is only holding itself to rails and not turbine. I preffer to remove it then cut it. If cutting is preffered I'll probably use the Cermark one from kit. What dimension should I use concerning end of turbine to ?????? Thanx for your help. keep up the informative build thread, really enjoy reading................. |
RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
Sap, is good to have you around and sorry for Dave ;), but I stick with your background [sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]. Real nice looking picture.- Ask Dave to send you some of his ducks to enhance your paramount :D....yeah.
Something had to go,,,,bud something have to come back ;), when you have the chance get a new one...I just can tell you is way lot better. Hope you are back on track again, Best Regards, Miguel. Dave, Duck's season is open :)? I'll have some oranges ready.... |
RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
C/F,
Glad your are enjoying this. Lets see if I can help you.... If your bypass and tailpipe showed some sign of burns and discolored...first check if the turbine is properly center mounted in the bypass. Another thing that come to my mind is also the probably the turbine is not burning clean...and that could answer the lack of rpms and respond to acceleration. My bypass is the stock one the comes with the Viper. The inside aft part is painted with BVM heat shield and is important you do the same with yours. The bypass improve the perform of the Viper a hight speeds (....which is one of the graceness of this jet) cos all the air that comes through the intakes is force to exit through the tail pipe, and almost nothing goes into the fuselage which generate drag. Perhaps one way to see it is like a vacuum with and without a separation in the hose... Is not mandatory, but for my preference in this airftame I'll not remove it, not the same scenario with an Eurosport. Dimension? in my case I think I have rear clearance of about 2 ~ 3 inches between the turbine exit cone and the bypass rear end. Better if anyone else explain this in better english than mine:eek: Don't waist to much time....and enjoy your Viper ;) Miguel |

has anyone tinted the canopy of the viperjet vinny |
RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
ORIGINAL: vinnyjet tam/dave has anyone tinted the canopy of the viperjet vinny Vinny, No we havent. It would be simple to do however, but there hasnt been a need so far. I agree that it would add just that more spice if done correctly. I have tinted canopies in the past, the easiest of course is the spray on tint used in R/C cars, you can pretty much have your canopy any color you like. The tint that uses the rit dye where you need to submerge the canopy in warmed water is always kind of risky, and never comes out the same each time.....It is always the same story "hmmm.. this looks good, but lets put it back in the water a little longer.....Oh crap!....that was too long" Dave |

RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
John,
Painting my Viper was one g ood reason of delay in building it....cos I did not let anything installed in the plane at the time of painting [&:] as the majority of our friend does [&o]. Its worth it, so do it.- I tried other paint scheme ideas....but none one was as beautiful as the original.... Thanks & Take care, Miguel |
RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
Yeah, makes me want to at least re-paint the winglets.
