Just finishing my Frightning
as you can see on the pictures since we need some weight in the nose. since almost everyone is using sub c,s we are using 3 packets of 5000mah lipo cells thats a total of 15000mah,s in the nose. i will have to put a yellow warning on the nose section " parts can get hot" :D. also some pics of the landing gear , i used somewhat different things for the doors on the aft doors i used servo,s and the front door Air. also we just moved our CNC cutter to our new location i am just finisching the Servo Tray where the weatronic and valves and gauges , switches , and filling valves are mounted. it will be made fromn fake Carbon (plastic) i need some suggestions from you jocks i want to set the cg according to you users and not the manual i want to measure it with the wings attached and gears in tank empty and hopper full. i rather have it a bit tail heavy , and 0 trim i want just as smooth landings as with the Flash Dave told me on a meeting in england a few weeks ago , it was possible and flys easyer then the flash... so all tips welcome.. |

just finisched the frightning
i set the CG as much AFT as i could , if it is anything like the flash , it will fly and land nicely. just a quick one i programmed all to the "marc"settings when they speak of surface trows at the root. i guess they mean at the most inbound side right? so flap trow is measured from the fuse to the flap ? then aileron from the flap to the aileron? same for the elevator? fuse to elevator? here some pics from the finished product.. |
RE: Composite-ARF Lightning Build Thread
Hi Sandor!
That's how i did my throws. The "marc" throws made the elevator a little sensitive for my liking. Ailerons are pretty crisp too. Remember to put in some down elev. with flaps. I use 7% on 1st flap and 9% on 2nd flap. (JR) If you set up slow flap movement, remember to also make the flap to elev mix slow too. If not it will nose down quite a bit before the flaps reach their positition. On My JR 9X the function to slow down the mix is called "delay" and is found in the "Flap Sys" menu wher you set the desired down elev with flaps. Good luck! You will love it:D |

RE: Composite-ARF Lightning Build Thread
On the MX22 you can also set up flight phases and use the offset feature to set flap deflection in each phase. By selecting a 2 second delay between phases, the movement of the flaps slows and trim changes mix in automatically (at the slower rate as well).
The throws in the manual are pretty touchy. If you use them, program in plenty of expo in flying around mode, particularly on Aileron and Elevator. You should also have some visible up elevator programmed in before takeoff, maybe 2mm. This will save you a lot of frantic trimming on the first flight. |

I am using the Ray settings and then I have tripple rates.. Question: How are you filling your fuel? thru the output of the UAT, right? Aslo, you have three switches, what are they for? Nice professional install...That's how I like mine done!!! Good luck on the maiden, get us a video!! |

You might have to adjust flap travel on one of the flap servos to get identical end points. I use a matchbox on the elevators (channel 3) and assign nose gear to 8, brakes to 9 and retracts to 10. I only have two mixes set ... rudder to nose gear and rudder to aileron for trimming out knife edge flight. The MX22 is JR's best kept secret. I have flown 10X's for as long as they have been around and they can't hold a candle to the 22. |

To Digitech,
I have emailed you and pm'd you...asking if you offer the trailing link main gear for the Lightning... Do you????? |
RE: Composite-ARF Lightning Build Thread
Hey Ron,
Yes it appears he makes them. Look here... http://www.digitech-turbines.com/shop/enter.html then pick Jet-1A landing gears, then pick oleos-struts, then scroll down for the Lightning struts (they are after the Flash ones) Not sure if anyone in the US has them, but I'm sure they'd be awesome on grass. Now you got me interested in them also. I'll be at Winamac starting Wednesday. See you there. ...Scott |
RE: Composite-ARF Lightning Build Thread
Ron,
I just completed my first flights with the jet 1-a gear installed on my lightning this past weekend. It makes the lightning ride like a cadillac on the grass. I purchased mine at Florida Jets from Airpower-USA. I did find that some modification was necessary to adapt them to the lightning. First I had to drill axle hole to accomadate the proper axle size. I also found them to be 3/4inch shorter than the Behotec struts. I fabricated an alluminum spacer and made 3 inch long pins from the shaft of a 8mm jobber bit and this fixed that problem. So far I am very happy with the results. I will try to get some pictures of the install. Scott B |

Scott B then you had them wrongly installed , our setup fits perfect without altering anything to the retracts. you can even adjust the hight of the oleo,s. we deliver our set with special 8mm pins , and if you want to fit the k-mart shopping car wheels , we resize the axle size,s for you for free;) we also have a complete set for the Frightning.. as for details i always buy a kit to fit our gears to know what i am talking about.. the only concern at the moment is the springs. the us guys frightnings have also the weight of caddilac,s..:D therefor i am currently having new springs developed , the issue is the size and how it will affect the oleo,s position.
