Default Composite-ARF Lightning Build Thread

Guys,

A very nice courier bought me a very nice package today!! My new Lightning in my own custom scheme. I hope to crack on with it fairly soon and will run a build thread here if any of you guys are interested?

Initial impressions are extremely good. The guys have really raised the level on this model in every area. The woodwork, fit and finish really is second to none. There is a hell of a lot done for you out of the box so I'm hoping this won't take too long to get in the air. It is big too which adds to the wow factor

Anyway, some pics of the unpacked model....

Rgds,
Mark

Nope! Completely different model - was actually launched several months back. Comp-ARF will still prodcue the KingCat but not the Ultra Bandit as I believe BV's new bird is to be be built solely in the US.

I know you were joking, but actually from studying these pictures and other Lighting pictures, I think that spot missing glue is where the gear door is.

Look at the picture. its in the bay forward of the wing tube at the wing LE. No gear doors there.

Anyway, I guess its an easy fix

Which engine are you going to use ?

Very easy! I checked every other bit of woodwork and they're all fine! Typical that the one pic I post is the one bit that needs a tweak of Hysol!

Will be powering it with a JetCat P160 and will be fitting a smoke system too - probably go for the new JetCat smoke pump. Am also going to fit the new(ish) PowerBox Lipo version with PB's own 2800mah LiPo batteries.

Looking forward to this one!

Rgds,
Mark

Is this a custom paint scheme to your spec or a new Navy variation that will be offered as standard? I assume they will be painted in the mould?

Hi Bob,

This is a 'one-off' scheme I designed and had the guys do for me so it won't be available off the shelf! It was still sprayed in the mould as are any customer's custom paint jobs. Obviously adds to the cost slightly as they need to lay it all out and make the masks etc just for the one-off scheme but gives you something unique in the world of ARTFs!

If you are interested in your own scheme then simply contact your nearest C-ARF rep and they will be able to help you out.

Rgds,
Mark

Mark,
Thanks for taking the time to provide this build review. I had a chance to look over a Lightning (in kit form) this past weekend at FIJR. Although the looks of this plane just dont seem to tickle-my-fancy, I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with the quality and construction of this kit. Composite ARF has come a long way in their fabrication techniques and, from what I am seeing, could be considered the best ARF fabricator in the business today.
The current kits are light years ahead of what we where seeing from them just a short time ago... Looking forward to your detailed review...

Hi Todd,

I am not really posting this thread with my 'rep hat' on - just simply doing a "Mr Normal" build thread as I am with my Hawk. It is hard to say how well put together this kit is without people thinking "he's only saying that coz he's a rep" so it's good to see your comments.

As I said in the beginning, they really have raised the bar on their latest models. Trust me, if I find anything wrong or problems as I go then I will post them too and make the guys at the factory aware at the same time.

Impartially yours,
Mark

Todd,
I originally had the same feeling about the lines of this model as something is not quite agreeing with my eyes, however the more I see it the more I like it! I do like the simplicity of it. IE the speed boards on the top edge of the flap system. The fact that they made the model easily transportable is a great idea too.

Totally dependant upon the complexity. Some would want the whole model simply sprayed red other may want checks/fades/stripes/lettering etc etc

Here is the blank 3-view I used. Have a scribble and let your rep get a quote from the spray guys at the factory!

Mark

Mark,
Will you fly the lightening at Bickley. Why ask - Cos we have never seen one and would like to see it, to see whether me dad would want to put one of his engines in one.

Do you know if any gyros were installed or used during these demo flights?
