Actually I am very pleased. In my business, I get very fed up with people trying to get something for nothing. It is an attitude, which I feel should be opposed, even when it costs me. It simply enables big companies to dominate and puts the small guy out of business.

My engine is outside its guarantee (12 months) and is still starting and running. I feel my upgrade is very reasonably priced and that it represents a very good deal. It is a very small firm and I doubt if they can afford to do as you suggest. Personally I would rather have them around to service and support my engine in the long run than not. If it proves reliable, it will still be less expensive than engines of equivalent weight, thrust and fuel consumption even including the cost of the upgrade. I see no reason to complain.

I bought the engine to try it. It has delivered both the thrust and the fuel consumption that Phill suggested by word of mouth it would do (namely about 18lbs and much the same fuel or slightly less thana SS MW54). My problem has been a tendency to cut out in fast axial rolls or in a strong cross wind when bench testing.

As you and Jason know, I am too fat to sit on anybody's bandwagon. I am just a customer like any other, but looking at my long run interests.

Best wishes to you both

HHHHHHHOOOOOORRRRRAAAAAAAA

John you have finally seen it from my point of view thats all I wanted THANK YOU.

Henry you a gentlemen and gents act as such like you are I on the other hand am not and if people are wrong they are wrong. We have discussed this on many occations before your 'warrenty' expired and if you recal it may start and sort of run but not very well. Phil doesn't and never has sold this engines as one that will start and 'SORT OF' run its always be a sold as a 'good as the rest if not better' engine so with this in mind WHY SHOULD YOU PAY. Its up to you but if I had bought one I would rather throw it in the bin than pay another penny to make it what it should have been in the first place.

As John said Phill I'm sure is a nice bloke he needs to sort this lot out.

At this point, Phil was busy with moving and other various things I imagine. Few months go by, about 5 or so months later I ordered the new version CC, with it also came the new fuel ring which include the second lube line, see photos. All I had to do was put my existing shaft tunnel in the Mill, I drilled a 1mm 45* hole in the rear of the tunnel where the rear lube line rests inside of the tunnel, goes in about .5mm or so. I can't remember the exact length that the hole had to be drilled at from the front of the tunnel, but its pretty much self explanatory.

Ant

this was the post that really made me break down in tears. Skymac seems to be quite happy to strip the turbine, put it in the mill and drill holes in the shaft tunnel! Is he crazy or am I? Why would you buy a complete turbine and start to act like a home builder?

Wipe that tear off your check boss, Each to his own...

John,

Yes you are crazy so am I in fact I'm gonna stop printing labels that stick and print ones that fall off then when the customer moans I'll leave them standing for 12 months then charge them again to make them sticky. What a brilliant business model.

Yes I am taking the p***.

Each to there own but if I buy a drill I want it to drill, if I buy a saw I want it to saw, I think you know where I'm going with this, If I buy a jet engine I want it to turn and burn I think that is a minimum requiement. In britian there are laws which are there to protect consumers against false claims for products on television in papers etc etc well I can't see unless phil gives these upgrades FREE how he hasn't broken something.

Wether Phil is a nice bloke or can afford to give these fixes FOC or not is not the concern of the consumer he has to.

Hmmmmm. As far as I can tell, after going nuts through this thread, is that all the problems with the Wasp have been in the UK, none elsewhere, and a good one from the US. Phil has a new Wasp 3 out, also a new ECU. The rep here in the states will update if necessary, make recommendations, test run, whatever a customer wants or needs, and he knows turbines. The new one is a couple of hundred bucks more than a P-80, but let's see what happens. I'm totally worn out from this year old thread! Good luck and happy flying everyone!

Lets have details!!!!

RE: Wasp update

The release of this engine was two years ago at wings and wheels and still no "CUSTOMER" engines working correctly in the uk so how old this thread is of no significance.

how come it's taken you 9 days to reply to this?.........no actually do NOT reply to that.
if you wanted to bring this thread back up again you could have just 'bumped' it.

i do believe there are lots of customers out there with perfect working engines, fact is they're not a member of RCuniverse.

don't bother replying Ant, it'll only be carp :)

RE: Wasp update

Paul

Sorry I didn't respond earlier this is due to my wife now being some time over due with my second child so as you can imagine a thread about a potentially good but currently poor engine is low on my list of priorities

Rubbish loads of engines working my bottom I know for a FACT 25% of his first batch of 20 DO NOT WORK CORRECTLY.

How unlucky can a turbine engineer be ay having two engines for the review break down, having to up the revs to get the thrust etc etc now all his happy customers just happen not to be members of RCU what the chances ay.

And oohh yea isn't a carp a fish so I talk fish mmmm I don't get it ? but if you meant cr*p thats what your dishing out phils brill this phils fantastic that 25% of his customer that I know of wouldn't agree with you who are all members of RCU again whats the chances ay all unhappy customers are members and all happy arn't how unlucky is phil.

the bush so do you own a wasp and if not why if they are so good, ant rutter has only only given the truth about the engine, as for predicable and boring i think not, nice guy if you take time out to talk to the guy, if he was boring the thread would not of gone this far so as for soap box it sounds like somebody elce is on now regards jetman

Same as nutter no, -- but then I have not expressed a view or gone on and on saying the same thing over and over again.

Best stop now as I did not mean to get embroiled in an augment-------- I will say I am not the only one now bored with nutters view.

As an X home builder just interested in progress and development of any new designs

RE: Wasp update

jetmanjetman

I quite agree with you about the subject. The Wasp is an interesting engine and its performance is well worth discussing. However in all fairness the endless repetition of very strongly held views is becoming superfluous and unhelpful to those who have one of these engines.

My own wish is for those who have a FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE to contribute. I would like to learn from others how I can tune it better, which version of the FADEC does it run best on, what sort of model has it been successfully flown in etc.

I am hoping to receive my engine, when it has been upgraded, in a couple of weeks time. I am told that my engine after 5.5 hours was in quite good condition and the rear bearing was as good as new with no sign of heat stains or other marks. If the upgrade sorts the problem of cutting out in axial rolls then I am hopeful of having a very useful engine.

I am minded to fit it in my JL T45, when it comes back. Hopefully both will be ready by the time the next Classic Jets comes around and I can meet you and Ant over a coffee. I know my flying skills are not quite in the same league as you both - but it would be nice if there was sufficient flying for informed discussion.

Best wishes to you both

I am going to lock this thread as the discussion seems to be unproductive and repetitive.

If anyone feels that they have significant NEW material to contribute please PM me with the information and a decsion will be taken about reopening the thread.
