Trevor....for gods sake man...i have only just got mine out of the box !
Unbelievably quick well done mate.
Glad you went for the MW44, it makes sense, keep the wing loading down, i would fit wing fences 1st if i were you.

Mine is black, not red.

[8D]

Right, some answers.

1) The intakes are much smaller than the AMD Hawk, which appears to be based loosely on my old DF Hawk design and the intake area was designed for 46 Ducted fan.
2) The intakes are slightly oversize not perfect scale but look much more like the real thing, the boundary layer splitter is on the moulding.
3) Scale profile is far better than the AMD, much less 'cartoon scale'
4) Yes it will come in Red and also White.
5) Wing fences, underwing, and other detail will be in the 'kit' but as we know this is a pre-production version.
6) The internal wood will be coloured to match the body on the 'kit'

I look forward to building mine, it looks great and comes with a superb pedigree.
This model design has (in one form or another) been around since the early 1980,s.
Originally for a 46 DF, then fitted with Turbax and 91 Df, and here it is, around 25 years later, for Turbines.
It flew really well with a 91, (always a bit underpowered with a 46.)

Now with a MW44 it should be awesome
:D

I have a red one....!

Release dates will be posted here when the evaluation and subsequent improvements/modifications are completed.

I don't imagine that it will be that far off - there's not that much wrong!

Jesus Tevor, don't you sleep?:D

HMMMMM,

As I write this I am sure that the younger Dave will be getting his much needed beauty sleep:)
Paul, you are obviously better informed than I and ask the sensible questions when you email Jim, most of our emails are surrounded by insults regarding the north south divide.;)
As I took the pics this evening I thought I must paint the woodwork. It will put the finish to it.
You are of course correct about the wing fences and I will be on that along with instal of a driver, all models look poor without one although as always mine will look nothing like the interior of a Hawk. What we need is that famous Paul Gray bloke using his vac-forming skills and intimate knowledge of Hawks!!

Here are a couple of pics of the intakes to give a better idea of their scale.
The cockpit and driver are also scale, just not for this arircraft :)

Do we need another Hawk Trevor? I would like to see an updated Viggen and the Gnat re-mastered (I ordered one of the last Gnats JF produced but the mould was way past its best and a banana fuz was the result, I should have continued the purchace but declined.....) What Jims next release be?

Chris

Sandseeker,

Well, from Jims point of view the hawk will be popular and rightly so. He has the F86 Sabre at a similar stage of production and to come is a scale Eurofighter. This is all information that is on his website which I think is Fox-composites.com.
Remember Jim must get the business off to a good start in order to indulge us with the airframes we want but possibly not as large on the sales.
The Viggen was a good flier and would be nice to see but like you i would absolutely LOVE to have a Gnat. Yellow of course.
Maybe we can get Pim Smith to send Jim one of his kits to re-make or maybe I don`t know what Jim has already.

Funny you should mention that. Today was Classic Jets at Abingdon Oxfordshire. I took along the Hawk for its first flight now fitted with a JetCat P60. I also fitted a Sectrum DX7 receiver so was a test of both the radio and airframe. I checked the CG last night and it was nose heavy according to Jims spec but had ran out of time to sort this and figured it was not going to cause too many problems. P60 fired up with its usual reliability and radio checked out as expected and off it went. Six or eight beeps of digital trim (up, nose heavy as expected) had it flying level at no more than half power and a good turn of speed. When the throttle was opened up it went like a rocket and whilst I knew it would be good I hadn`t thought it would be quite that fast. Produced lots of thrust with the Wren tail pipe fitted. The amount of up trim and the way the nose dropped during the rolls confirmed that I would have to move things around to get the CG to where it should be but no great problem and when it came to landing there was still plenty of elevator response for flairing on the approach. Very pleased.
I didn`t get any video myself but maybe someone else did and there were plenty of cameras so perhaps someone will post a shot or two?
Next time out (a week Sunday) I will get Davey on the sticks So I can get some vid.

All,

As Dave W has posted on another thread, we had a great day out flying at Chalgrove in Oxfordshire today. A little breezy but not enough to dampen our enthusiasm and the first chance to get some stick time on the Hawk and also some video.
I think this should take you straight there http://www.rcuvideos.com/view_video....66464849ffe6d8
I had one flight at Abingdon and have adjusted the CG to Jims spec with no bad habits formed. As I remember from my old Hawk, this one will knife edge from horizon to horizon with about half rudder :D. Talking of Horizon, the Spectrum DX7 is a great little radio and flawless in operation for the 5 flights I have had so far. Not a great video but should give a flavour of how it flies. Most was flown at half power with the P60 and plenty to spare for the verticals. Going to enjoy this one in 2007.

Hello.
That Jim Fox Hawk brings back a lot of good memories from the old DF days. A very good and stable flyer. It will be great to see the final version. Keep us posted, please. ;)

(Didn't Bob Ryan fly one on turbine for a couple of years???)

Yes, i remember i had a lot fun with the Jim Fox Hawk, i had sold out over 15 kits of Jim Fox Hawk kits in the Taiwan,

Here is my hawk picture , it was taken in 1998 RC Jet Meeting Taiwan

Hi guys
I have the red preproduction kit and its almost ready to fly, its come out at just under 12Ibs with an MW 54 installed. the price is around 490 GBP. the wieght is around DF wieght and the DF one flew really well. you must put wing fences on( these will be available in the production ones and I mentioned to Jim it would be a good idea to include the underwing strakes as on the full size), you may notice the positions marked on the underside of the wing, I think these will also be available(must keep the air straight on the wing) the full size Hawk wing was a bad wing made good ! remember!! will try and get some pics posted if I can, just waitin for some good weather now!!
Kind regards to all

Hi guys
it would be a good idea to include the underwing strakes as on the full size Kind regards to all
Rob Bloor

Hi Rob,

Not sure what you mean abt underwing strakes...I know the small wing fence did curl around the L/E and went underneath a little bit, and there were fairings over the flap hinges, but I don't recall seeing any strakes under the wing...but then again, it's 25 years since I crawled underneath a Hawk and things have moved on since then! Were you refering to the flap fairings, maybe?

Nice to see you on here (BTW, do you calibrate PAT testers?).

Cheers,

Dick (S)

Geoff White 01-30-2007 03:05 AM

RE: Fox Composites Hawk kit

Dick,

The underwing strakes that Rob mentions are the 3 fairings for the flap hinges, in fact, if you count the fairing for the aileron linkage then there are 4. Of course I know all this because I incorporated them all in my Hawk!

Geoff.

GrayUK 01-30-2007 07:48 AM

RE: Fox Composites Hawk kit

Geoff, they are the ones!

I have a set to fit to mine.
And it will definitely have wing fences!

Paul
