Dave

What is the wingspan of the Hawk? Could you possibly weigh the kit components?

Best regards

John

John

It is a composite version of Jims old 90 DF Hawk, upgraded for turbine.

It is a pre-production kit at the moment and is not 'exactly' as will be when released.

I have a kit at home in a box waiting for me, but unfortunately i am at the other end of the country at the moment.[:o]

Hello.
That Jim Fox Hawk brings back a lot of good memories from the old DF days. A very good and stable flyer. It will be great to see the final version. Keep us posted, please. ;)

(Didn't Bob Ryan fly one on turbine for a couple of years???)

Guys

Like Paul says this is from the first kits made.
John, its all back in its box so I'll leave Trevor to measure things.

Not heard of the Viggen being produced...but you never know with Jim!

John,

Have the kit at home now and will weigh the parts and post the results. As Dave and Paul say, this is not the final version and whilst not too heavy I am sure Jim will want to get it as light as he can. Being northern he will have given the wing belt and braces strength. Can`t wait to get started now.
Paul, are you at Chalgrove this weekend?

Trevor

Ok, weighed All the parts and total weight is 2638gms. That includes fuel tanks, 2x900cc and various formers/uc mounts
Stab bearings, everything except the manual.

Weight 5.8lbs complete with tanks not too bad, add Wren 44, tailpipe should be about 8lbs then 1lb for retracts and about 1,25 lb for radio and a bit for all the bits you forget, could come out dry at about 11lbs, that will do!

trevor Skedge 11-28-2006 02:14 PM

RE: Fox Composites Hawk kit

Paul,
I agree, not bad especialy when my last JFM Hawk (yellow, ex Simon Peckham) weighed 14lbs dry with an SPS 54. That flew great but would G-flick given too much elevator. I think this will come out at least 2lbs lighter than that one if I use a P60 and as you say save another pound if I use my Wren 44. I now have a set of Robart retracts to fit. Trial fitted then in the mounts and no problems with width or depth.

Trevor

Thanks for the info, look forward to pics as the build progresses. Need something to replace the F18 which has found a new home in sunny Spain!

Best regards

Ok,

Kit arrived a week last Monday and worked on it for about 2 hours a night and it ready to test fly this weekend but unfortunately we had rain nearly every day last week so the grass had not been cut and was too wet. Build was very straight foraward with conformal tanks of about 900ml each so can have a MW44 (my option) or P60/MW54 etc. I know that Paul Gray is going to use an MW44 with 11lb of thrust and this could be the ideal choice as mine come out at 11lb dry.

Hi Trevor,
Can you upload a few more photos please? Jim told me the intakes were still oversized as per the ducted fan version but from that photo they don't look too bad.

Cheers,
Dave
Hope the maiden goes well.

Trevor,

When you take her out for maiden on the grass strip, can you pace out the marks left on the grass during takeoff and get a ball park length used.

More pics of install please!

Thanks,

J

Dave,
Will upload some of the front but yes they are the same as original but the black hides this somewhat.

Does anyone have indication of pricing yet?

trevor Skedge 12-10-2006 11:48 AM

RE: Fox Composites Hawk kit

J.F.

Don`t hold me to it but I believe Jim was talking about £495-00 when production is finalised. There will no doubt be a few detail changes of this pre-production kit, perhaps a small weight saving as well.

Hi Guys,

That pricing is around the ballpark figure mentioned to me. The oversized intakes are useful for anybody wishing to go the EDF route. However, I believe a more scale intake is on the board.

I will be the Jim's agent in the Uk for his range - don't know that much yet but will help anywhere I can!

Cheers

Jeff

RE: Fox Composites Hawk kit

Pricing seems OK....do they come in red?:D

Intakes, although big, seem smaller than the AMD hawk, is this the case?

Are wing fences going to be fitted/supplied?

Any hints on date for availabilty of production versions?

trevor Skedge 12-10-2006 02:03 PM

RE: Fox Composites Hawk kit

J.F.

I have seen one in red and would think that is Paul Gray`s and no doubt he can confirm, but yes I believe they will come in red as well.
I think the intakes are smaller than the AMD Hawk and a little differently shaped so have a slightly more scale appearence.
I will ask jim re the wing fences and I will be making some for mine as any hawk that i have fown has been better with than without.
Perhaps Jeff would like to give what he knows about general release dates?.
Install pics later tonight when I get in the workshop.
