Hi Dick
Yes those are the very same, if you count them there are four ( I think) and I reckon these will contribute significantley to its flight qualities. someone else may know more about this than I do and yes I calibrate PAT testers give me a ring.
Thanks for the welcome
Kind regards
Rob

Dick,

The underwing strakes that Rob mentions are the 3 fairings for the flap hinges, in fact, if you count the fairing for the aileron linkage then there are 4. Of course I know all this because I incorporated them all in my Hawk!

Geoff.

Hi Geoff, Rob,

Yes, I thought as much....had my engineer's head on...fairings are different to strakes!

Hope all's well up there in the frozen North!

Hang loose,

Dick

PS..Rob...just checking re the PAT thing...will speak to you abt it in in 12 months!

All,

Been out at the weekend flying the Hawk and have to say this is growing on me more each flight. I was a little shy of the tails regarding tip stall without wing fences so fitted temporary items until Jim sends the real thing. I also fitted the front sections of the under wing fairings but not the rears as the hinging is not scale and can`t make up my mind how to do this reasonably tidy.
Here are a couple of the latest shots.
The Fox Sabre also flew that day and very nicely indeed. My next model.

Trevor Skedge.

P.S. The 2.4ghz still working great and starting to appreciate not having to find the person on MY frequency:)

I inquired with Fox Composites about their products and never heard back. My email most likely went into the black hole of space.

Trev.
I was very impressed with the Hawks performance on Sunday. Considering the weight and the fact that the wind was nil, landing speed was remarkably slow. I am getting on with mine now (Wren 44 Gold) and I look forward to flying it alongside yours. Thrust to weight should be about the same.
:D

Do you have photos of your 44 install. This looks like a really nice model i hope to hear from Jim soon.
Thanks for alternate contact info Trevor.

OK Gents
The box is empty:D

I have started by checking out the parts as received.

First impressions are very good.
All parts present and correct and they are all of a very acceptable quality.
If this is the pre production run then the production kits should be fantastic.

All pieces are well moulded and the formers wood etc all pre cut. This includes servo mounts.
Rudder and ailerons have control horns fitted they just have to be hinged.

The pictures enclosed show the contents of the box except for the moulded canopy and cockpit interior which i will show later.

I will post as i build.

Well done Jim...looks like a winner.:)

The inlets appear to be sized to allow the use of ducted fan for power too?

Yes they are, the model would fly well on a Ramtec and OS 91. The original did, as long as you keep the weight down.
The intakes are oversize but not as much as the AMD or similar. The model looks much more scale.
Pics included show the wing with the pre-made servo locations and UC point.

Other pic shows panels back in pos.

Very nice fit and will be easy to sort out :D

Paul,

Excellent that you are taking pics as you go, I was in a bit of a hurry as usual. It does go together well.

Thanks for the photos Trever, Tons of room inside I see. What retract system do have your model?

RE: Fox Composites Hawk kit

Bob,

I used the Robart air up spring down units with the bulkhead mount. Springairs were my prefered units and feel lighter but I haven`t weighed the two to compare. All I know is the Robarts have not needed any tweeking of the legs at all after any of my arrivals or high speed attempted takeoffs from the grass (not enough power earlier on)

Trevor Skedge.

I am using Spring air.
I shall be installing a Wren 44 Gold.(lots of power and a light model ;)

I recieved a reply from Jim. Shipping is bit expensive to the states so he is looking at some options.
He promised to get back to me as soon as he can sort it out.
I watch you build with great interest while waiting.

Ok
Both flaps fitted, now driven by servos.
I am using Hitec 85mg. 3kilo.

Jim has a fully internal drive for the flaps, nice when done but fiddly to install.
Pics show servo and link, and then drive to flap.
The other 2 show the flaps driven by servos to aprox. takeoff position and then landing.
The 2 servos are driven from Flap output and Aux 8, poss. of both can be adjusted independently using endpoint for up and landing.
They switched by a 3 poss. switch. Mid poss. is takeoff and this can be adjusted by using subtrim.

Ailerons tomorrow ;)

OK today did not go as fast as i would have liked...family interfered [>:]

Got both ailerons hinged and fitted 1 servo.
Pic 1 shows the servo mount and setup for the flap

Pic 2 shows aileron servo linkage installed.

More tomorrow I hope.

Tonight’s efforts.[8D]

Last wing servo in now and picture 1 shows that with flaps driven to landing poss.

Picture 2 shows the next stage, i am leaving the UC till last as I always do.
The pic shows the tailplane (Stab for you USA guys) halves both pre balanced and the 2 carbon spars with yoke.
Bearings can also be seen.
With a bit of luck I will get the rudder hinged tomorrow and start on the tailplane :D
