Just Wondering????????
 

I have been looking on the jets classified section and have counted atleast 9 jets that the asking price is atleast over $12,000.00. I'm just wondering, given the state of the economy, would anyone really pay that type of money for a model plane? I mean even if you were a millionare, I'd question your sanity for paying such an outrageous price for a model. I do feel that most guys on here price their models to a point where someone could afford to buy it. When someone prices a model in the $15,000 to $19,000, are you really wanting to sell it ,or just bragging that have the ability to spend that type of money on a model.

I would think they really want to sell there jets, as you said about the economy, maybe that is the reason to sell, I don"t think it"s for bragging, kind of a weird topic, whats the differance if you had a boat, RV, etc,etc, jets are no differant.

Well actually with a boat, car, motorcycle or even a small plane like a C-152 you could actually get a loan for say 10,15 or $20,000. So to answer your question, there is a REAL dollar VALUE on a car, boat, motorcycle, ect....

Like Joe C said, these "toys" are not cheap, and are usually bought with discretionary funds, much like boats, RVs, and hookers, etc. People spend big dollars on these when purchased new, all the time. However, with that being said, I don't see many people standing in line to buy used jets in the $10,000 to $20,000+ range......even if zero to 10 flights. People always say, "I could buy a new one for that price."

Another problem is some people try and get compensated for their "time" when selling jets. T'aint gonna happen.

There are some good deals to be had in the classifieds, but as far as the BIG dollar items, I just like looking at the travertine marble floors in the pictures.

I can get a loan on my jets. Someone or an institution will lend me money for one or all of them. I don't think that's a fair statement at all. He might be saying that because "HE" can't get a traditional loan on one.

But to answer the question, yes, they intend to sell them, he is certainly suggesting that the economy is affecting him. And really, this thread seems to lend itself more to jealously rather than question of value or intent. IMO.

I've never been able to afford to just drop 10K+ at one time on anything, having said that, there are 2 jets in the classifieds right now that are over 10K that if I had the money, I would buy in a heartbeat. I have no time to build, I would love to be able to buy a turnkey jet and just go fly it. Unfortunately, I have never had much cash, I have some really nice and expensive jets, but I've been able to use the barter system for most of my jet stuff, my cash outlay from day one has been quite small. The exception to that has been my Super Bandit, but I didn't buy everything at once, that was a 5 year project for me!

I'm not sure why you asked the question. Why would/should you care how/why someone spends their money?
I just bought an A-10 that I'll probably around $15K in before it flies.
You may question my sanity for buying it, but it's my money, I earned it and can spend it any way I want without having to justify it to anyone.

You don't really need to be rich. A Dr or a lawyer (I should say a good one) can esily grease more than a million a year. With that kind of a salary and some good investements..........you could buy a lot of model jets over the years. A $20,000 model is just pennies when you make 7 figures. There are a LOT of modelers making that much money in Florida.

I personally know Cardiologists that make $40K a week. That's two Ultra Bandit's a week. :D
Also know some good lawyers that made $1500 an hour, and are now in jail. [:@]

you must think that I just fell off a turnup wagon, or something like that. So what you're telling me is that you can go into your local bank and tell them you would like a loan for $19,000 to buy the F4 Black Bunny scheme that is listed on RCU classifieds.I'm sure you have perfect credit, so the person looks to give you the loan, and they go to what "Blue Book" to get the resale price for that plane. Oh by the way, I'm not jealous, I have a few jets, but nothing as much as $15,000 dollars. My planes don't cost much more than 4-5 thousand. But just to let you know I did spend in the last 2 years somewhere around $20,000 to get my Citation Bravo (CE550) type rating at Simuflight, in which helped me get employed flying air ambulance for Childerns Hospital here in Dallas, and also I work for American Airlines as a AMT (18 years), I been blessed with 2 jobs, so the economy is NOT affecting me at this moment.

I could care less how much one spends on his jet, you missed the intent on the thread. I'm just curious to see how many guys would spend LARGE monies on a jet. One guy has answered my question so far, he said if he had the cash he would spend $10,000.....everyone else is getting personal.

I agree with Jon here. I'ts a hobby! If you have the cash, why not? Granted, for the time that A-10 flies, it will have costed as much as a used Aeronca or a 152, so what? Jon is not after a 152...I was into photography as a teen, and that's where all my money went at that ime:-) Just because some have more money to spend in a hobby than others, does not make it different.
Besides, if Jon (sorry, I use you as an example here) would be into boating, I am sure he would spend much more cash!

I spent $ 10.897 in my Skymaster F-16 1/8 including lights, Eagle Tree Telemetry with GPS, Tam Jets ordinance Kit, Futaba 12FGA 2.4 Ghz radio, etc.during last year and when I tried to sell it with no more than 3 hours of flight in $ 13.000.oo, including my labor to assemble it, just one guy in spain was interested, but many people said that according to the economy last year, nobody were goig to be interested. When I saw the prices for the same jet but used, I decided to keep it. The price were no more that $ 6.500 without transmitter for one ready to fly. My intention was to change mine for one used 1/6 scale tha t I never found. (just one in the Symaster web page but too expensive). Some months later, I crashed it due to a battery failure and I went to my bank, and get a loan to by a new fuselage. I don´t earn as much money as to spent these amount of money in a hobby but it is my hobby and is what I am wondering to spent my time. Now I am finishing it and I think my new maiden will be in one month.

Now, I realize that with the huge amount of money spent in my 1/8 scale including the new fuse, I surely was able to get a new 1/6 scale. And is that for a camo version, I think that 1/6 scale is more easy to see at those speeds.:D

Of course that those are projects for more than two years to get all together ready to flyas LGM Graphix said.
