RE: rcjetsdirect A10
To all concerned....We have tried endlesly to find a way to ship to the UK. From the US it is very expensive now that USPS has a size limit. This is what I sent to Darren (siclick33). Believe me, we want him to have it!
First email: Darren, The shipping is $975 in two boxes. If we cut the fuse (at a former), it will be $675 in three boxes. We have put hours into this and that is the best we can find. Do you want one of these? We can't find it for any less. Shipping has changed out here since the first of the year. I am so sorry for this, but that is what it is right now. Darren, we really have tried to get the best pricing for you on this. I really don't have any other options. Your right, your plane has been ready to go.... Please let me know what you want me to do. Thanks, Lowell After his reply, our second email: Darren, I am VERY sorry for this as we really wanted you to use the turbines in it. We have put in endless hours trying to get it shipped, but as I said over a month ago, we were having a problem. China and other countries don't have the size restrictions we have here. We will continue if you like but that is what we have found. Everything changed here in the states for export at the new year. We will be able to direct drop from China with other models as well as the A-10 for less, but even their fee's are a bit high. I will let you know if we come up with anything. Again, sorry for the disappointment. Lowell If anyone knows a way to ship oversized packages to the UK, please let us know. We would love to get these over there!! US shipping is not an issue... Thanks again, Lowell |
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Lowell,
oversize packages are very expensive to ship thru the usual fedex ups dhl.... a few years ago I bought a kit from Jet Hangar and it was sent thru Bax Global which is far less expensive. The other way would be to send thru the cargo section of airlines with a delivery and pick up at the airport to reduce the cost. at the end I think you can get a return ticket to LA for less than 500$ :D Florent |
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Hi,
Yellow Aircraft uses BAX Global (I think they may have changed their name now). We've sent the F-15 ARF (which HAS TO BE bigger than the A-10 boxes?) to the UK for substantially less than the quote you're getting. If you could give me box dimensions, I'd be happy to get a quote for you. |

ORIGINAL: A10FLYR Was that surface or air? I ''USED'' to air freight my hog kit to Europe for $300! (2' X 2' X 6'), Now it's over $800 surface!!! What carrier were you using? I got a quote from UPS for about $680.00. Fed Ex gave me the run around and DHL was over $1000.00. I shipped a kit from California to Florida for about $35.00 greyhound. To bad they cant drive them buses across the ocean. The same quote i recieved from USPS to Florida was $120.00. After all the quotes i have got from USPS, the only thing i would ship through them would be a letter. I dont think they like to ship large items. Sic, that really burns me up, all the time, effort, and waiting you have put into this, without a kit. I am positive something will become of this one way or another. chris |
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Thanks guys. Sean, the dimensions are 70X19X19". Call me or John and let us know what you find. Really appreciate it guys.

RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Hey Dean What carrier were you using? chris
The old Emory Air Freight...no longer in business. Price was about the same wether UK, Japan or Austrailia. Don't Ya love GreyHound? I ain't had a problem yet! |
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Do you guys have a website??
|
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Unfortunately we have been working on planes more than the website!! Most of it is done, but not up yet.
You can contact me direct if you like @ Thanks, Lowell |
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Big thanks to Shaun (aka YellowAircraft) who has given us a great help with sorting out the shipping. The shipping cost to UK ended up being $275 and, as a result, my A10 has now been paid for and shipped:D.
I will add details here when it arrives. |
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Enjoy Darren and let us know when it gets there.
Thanks again, Lowell |

RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Lowell/Chris,
I'm just about to order the gear; what size wheels did you use? |
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Hey Sic
The front is a 2.5 inch and the rear are 3.75 inch. What brand were you looking at getting? chris |
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
At the moment I'm looking at either Trim aircraft or Intairco wheels with brakes. The Trim ones are cheaper but it looks like the intairco ones may be narrower/lighter.
What did you use? Is there are clearance issues with wider tyres? I would wait and have a look at mine when it arrives but it's on a round the world trip via Luxembourg, London and then to Manchester where I can finally pick it up! |

I used the robart 2.5 and 3.75 but for some reason they only lasted a few flights until the mains pretty much fell apart. They were replaced with some foam tires that John said he had got from Tamjets. I did not see these tires on the Tamjets site but i could have overlooked it. The brakes were also purchased from Tamjets. The robart rims were still used in this setup. Here is a pic of that setup. I machined a scale rim insert and a pressure plate for the brake that fit these rims. Either way you will need some pretty robust tires for the mains. http://www.glennis.com/scalejetgallery.htm . These guys sell some scale rims and tires for a larger a10 but they told me they could scale them down. They gave me a quote around $400.00 for rims, tires and brakes. chris |

Here are some other rims that i machined out of polyethylene. This plastic is strong but is a not really good for painting. These were machined to fit the robart tires.

RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Hey Sic
I had forgot to answer your question about the clearance issues. The robart 2.5 have a width of 7/8". You will want to stay as close to this as possible for the front because its tight quarters in the nose area. The robart mains were 3.75 and 1 1/8" wide. These are not as critical as far as the width is concerned but you should still stay close to this measurement. As far as struts and retract mechanism, robart part# 631 85 degree mech. with 1/2 inch struts were used on mains and 7/16 offset strut was used on front. I do not remember which one they considered left and right offset but if you were sitting in the cockpit it would need to offset to the right side with scissors facing rear. I believe part# 661 that fits the 2.5 wheel. thanks chris |
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Thanks Chris. I just got in and glad to see you getting all the info to Darren.
Darren, make sure you let us know when it gets there. Lowell |
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Due to a change in circumstances mainly because of production costs, I will now be distributing kits directly for the time being. The kits are ready for sale and I will be taking orders so if you would like to be on the list, you can pm or contact me with the contact info below. I apoligize for any confusion and for those who remain on John and Lowells list. I still may be able to accomidate some of those orders on that list. John and Lowell are great but this is a decision i have made on my end to continue producing these kits and i apologize to them as well. I am sure we will be able to work something out for the future. Again, i apologize for any inconvenience.
I can be contacted at or 805-286-7227 thanks chris |
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Does RC JEts Direct have a website ?

RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Looking good.. Love them A10's..

RE: rcjetsdirect A10
Wow Chris...what a way to notify us of your intentions. Very classy indeed!
Our agreenemt with Chris was to buy all he could produce for us. He told us he would do 8 a month. In the last 11 months we have recieved 9 incomplete kits. We paid for them and we paid for supplies for him. We never asked our customers for any money "up front" because we wanted to have "complete" kits available BEFORE any money was exchanged. We trust Chris will be a man of his word and get us the remaining parts needed to ship these kits as they are ready to be shipped with just a few small detail parts. We will contact the next on the list for delivery of these kits (with the parts from Chris) this week. As for the ARF's, we will have them available in an electric OR P-60 size by the end of October. We are also working on a P-80 size that may be available by the end of the year as well. Please bear with us on this as we will test and make all corrections needed BEFORE shipping (as WE did on the A-10 Chris is doing). Thank you all very much and WE will see you all at the shows!! Lowell & John RC Jets Direct |
RE: rcjetsdirect A10
IF any one needs to contact me, please feel free to do so by "PM". We will be glad to discuss it with anyone.
Thanks again, Lowell |
