rcjetsdirect A10

On a thread a short time ago, mention was made of a small EDF A10 by rcjetsdirect that might be suitable for MW44s.
Lowell Wexler very quickly replied to my query and promised to send me some more info when it is available. In the mean time, I have been looking for some photos of it and I believe it was flown at the Desert Jet Storm at Speedworld.
Does anyone have any pics of it from that event or any other pics?
Does anyone know if there is a rcjetsdirect website?
Thanks

Siclick33,
I am sorry for not getting the info to you....I forwarded it for you to get and thought it was handled. The plane did fly at Speedworld and they have pictures on their website. If you email me at: [email protected] I will forward the shots. The plane flys great and we should have the first couple of kits available at Calif. Jets.
The specs are:
1:9.5 scale
W/S: 72"
L: 65"
ELECTRIC: 2x 100MM-120MM
TURBINE:2X WREN 44'S OR SIMALAR
Needed to complete:
2 fans/motors or turbines
radio equipment
2x speed controls
retracts (standard Robart)
wheels and brakes
I will get a video as soon as I can but I do have pics in the air I will try to convert and post here. In the mean time, go to the Speedworld site and you will see it there.
You can call me @ (760)214-7116
or John @ RC Jet's Direct shop @ (858)277-4531
Thanks again.

Thanks,
I think I have found some pictures (I was looking in the wrong place). Is this the one? Am I ok to copy the pictures here?
Are there any plans for a pylon/ordnance kit? This model really needs to be 'dirty'.
I take it that it has only flown EDF? I was just wondering how the tailplane/fins would fair with turbine power.
It does look good though
Will send an email shortly.

Thanks for getting the pics up. We do have full ord. for it. This was our proto plane and really just wanted to get the "bugs" out before we started production. We have the cannon in the nose and all the rails as well. We haven't flown the turbine version yet, but we really don't anticipate any strength issues.
Thanks again,
Lowell

Thanks for the info. I did read that thread when it was running but must have stopped before the little A10 postings began.
Now I just need to sort out which version of MW44 to use.

I've found some more pics of the prototype on another thread
For those that have flown A-10s, how much power do you think I would need? I believe the prototype weight was about 24lbs. Do you think 7-8lb Wren 44s would be enough or do you think I would need 10lb 'Golds'?

Ron,
The 110's will fit great. Come on over and say hi at Ca. Jets.
Sic, thanks so much again for finding the extra pics. That's the bird were flying. As for the Wrens, the 44's should be perfect. I did however think they put out a bit more thrust.....Mmmmmm could be wrong.
Anyway, it does fly great and like a trainer!

Hello Darren
I just recieved your pm and thought i would post a video on the thread. And as of your questions about the weight, the proto weight was 24 pounds. I have laid up a lighter kit for John and Lowell that will hopefully be flying at cali jets next month as well as a few kits available. I have lost about 2 pounds off the airframe layups and structure. I think John will be sticking some tamjets fans in this one set up with 6s per. Overall weight savings should be about 5 pounds putting it down in the 18 pound range. The reason why the proto plane was so heavy was because it had 6 pounds of battery in it and the layup schedule was a little overkill. The fan units with motors were 2 pounds each. No nose weight was needed. It was actually nose heavy and had to shift the batteries back. I wanted to set it up with some stumax fans but stumax never returned my email. Must be busy making fans. I would love to see the a10 fly with turbine. If you talk to John or Lowell, they were talking about a company that wanted to use the a10 for a test platform for some new turbines that they were coming out with. I think John was saying they are going to be in the $1700 range.
The A10 i am finishing up for next month has had a little cosmetic surgery. I am finishing up the molds for the new wheel nacelles which will be much more scale than the proto, new canopy shape, and new flap molds and flanges over the proto. More detailed parts will also be on it. Gotta work out the bugs. I do now know why not many kit the a10. Lot of molds and alot of work. But i will be doing a 1/7th scale next which will have a 100 inch span.
Thanks for your interest

Sorry to hear he didn't get back to you. He was great to deal with and shipped very fast for me. I'll be watching how this one flys with TJ 100's. I'm really interested in this plane.
Just need to finish up the junk in the shop first.

How long did it take you to get the stu fans? Thats what i wanted to set it up with but from what i understand, he had a few orders to fill and was a waiting list. I was worried about tail weight on the a10 but had no problem with the turbax edf's. They are even 1/2 pound each, heavier than their glow version. With the stumax, there would be a weight savings of about a pound in the engine area but not so needed. I will try to contact them again after i get all this squared away. Cool sounding fan though. As for now, we will see how the Tams perform.

Is there any idea of a release date for this kit?
I know it has been said that there are likely to be a couple of kits at CA Jets but just wondered if this was realistic. If so, when are the next mainstream kits likely to follow?
Reason I ask is that I have itchy fingers to order the engines but don't want them sitting on my bench if the model is going to take a while.

Sic...if you put in an order with me I can get you one of the next kits. About 45-60 days. I will talk to Chris and try to get it sooner but I think that is realistic. Let me know.
Thanks,

I have a few ends to finish up but i have already started producing parts. I have one kit pretty much finished and will be doing as many as i can before the cali jet meet. I should have at least 2 finished for it. I am also building up another kit with all detail for the jet meet and making 2 new molds for the wheel nacelles at the same time, so i have my work cut out for me. I am going to take a small breather after cali jets but will start producing parts again the week after. We should be able to get one out to you about a week after i get back which would be around April 25th. I would love to see how the 44's push this thing around. Just let Lowell or John know.
thanks

Thanks Chris...we look for ward to CA jets. I flew our demo A-10 the other day and it is just a ***** cat to fly and land. It just seems to float! Great high speed performance as well!

One of the lightest 120mm setups you could use on the A-10 would be the Aeronaut TF4000 fan, Neu 1912 1Y and Castle Creations HV110 ESC. The TF4000 is an all carbon fiber fan that weighs 4 oz. The 1912 weighs 12 ozs. and the CC HV100 weighs 5 ozs. for a total of 21 ozs. By comparison, the TJ100 with a 1518 motor and CC HV110 weighs 27 ozs. and about 25 ozs with a 1515 motor. The TF4000/Neu 1912 combo puts out 10+ pounds of thrust on 10S. I had this setup in a BVM Maverick a few years ago and it had an amp draw of 89 amps and 3200 watts and it pushed the Maverick to 165mph.

Is there a web page for rcjetsdirect. If not, what is the cost of the kit. Also, is the A-10 about the same size as the George Miller A-10.
Do you think that the new micro turbines would fly it like the new one from Jet Joes or the other from germany, Lambert-Modellturbinen. Thanks.

If he's talking lower cell count setup then 1515 would be the setup to use, which is actually the standard setup for TJ, 1518 is not high performance but more ruged system for large jets, so in thast case 1515 and TJ is only 21oz. It will also under at 3kw area put out exact same thrust as TF or any fan at 3kw. All fans in close watt levels put out same thrust range, only diff is efflux due to each fans RPM, some can just put out more thrust at top end cause there capable of higher ultimate watt ranges. Thats why at 3kw range even a DS-51 is close to 9 pound range as is even a Midi fan, the diff? Efflux.
