Bare with me on this problem, but it's a continuation on my clutch bell saga that some of you are aware of.
Okay, so after buying a new clutch bell, attaching it and sorting out the mesh with the spur gear, I now face a new problem. Today I went to give the car a test run, so I pulled the pull start but the clutch bell gear locked up.
Now, a few days ago I realised that if the screw on the clutch bell is tightened too much, the clutch bell cannot spin. Because of this, I leave the screw slightly slack to allow it to spin. Today, much to my frustration, I found that as the clutch bell gear meshes with the spur gear (and when the pull start is tugged) that the screw tightens itself into the thread (thus locking up the gear). I'm baffled as to how to find a way around this?
I've got thread lock, but surely this must only work for screws that are tightly threaded and not slack screws?
Here's a picture of the afore mentioned gear and the problem screw in question:

Any suggestions folks?
I'll be offline for a few hours, but I'll check back later.

No offence but you better go to HPI web site and you will see the only CB they recommend to use with a steel spur is the Race CB as it is the only one that is hardened.

to find the screw you want on a model website you just type in its size so it would be - cap head screw - m3x6mm or you could just browse through their screws

This is off HPI web site and as you see it is the only HPI CB to run with a steel spur.
These Racing Clutch Bells from HPI Racing are made from high strength machined steel and hardened for maximum durability. These Clutch Bells can be used with the stock Savage Spur Gears, and they are a mandatory upgrade when using HPI Steel Spur Gears. Machined holes help keep the weight down for quick acceleration, and the holes also help cool the clutch shoes for consistent performance. Each gear is stamped with the number of teeth for easy identification. Available in 13T, 14T, 15T, 16T, 17T, 18T, 19T and 20T sizes for a wide variety of gear ratios.

No as stainless is very strong but brittle. Better for a screw to bend then break where were you still have to get half of it out. All so do some research on stainless screwed to aluminum and what sort of chemical reaction you have.

i know you need a race clutch bell for a steel spur. i was just using that picture as an example for nitro-is-deadly. but i did state in the text he would need a HD race clutch bell. i personally would not run a steel spur gear in my mt2. i have not had a problem with my plastic spur gear (knock on wood) and its around 1 and a half years old now.
