RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
Its odd. The 3mm screws I have fit the top and bottom of the knuckle fine but the thread seems to be coarser on the tie rod holes. The screw goes in about 2 threads and then it stops. I tried all 4 holes on both knuckles from top and bottom and the same thing happens on all of them. I guess I'll just drill the holes out and put a not on the bottom.

Sorry I misunderstood you I didnt realize you were talking about the kingpin screws in comparison. Yeah the kingpins are a finer thread compared to the tie rod threads.

I just realized what I was doing wrong.. I forgot I had to use the ball ends for the tie rods. Thats what happens when you have a 4 year old trying to help you..

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
well guys thanks to all your help and with some endless hours of engineering i finished my epic mt2 brushless conversion to flux. its nothing over the top as far as craftsmanship but i'm quite proud of it. so far testing is just laps around the dining room table, since the roads are unplowed and covered in 4 inches of powder so i'll take it to a indoor rec place to do some runs. i'll post pics asap but for now i can tell its a work of art lol. btw i do have extra parts such as an engine so let me know if you need to used parts.

Congrats on the conversion. It is always gratifying when a project is finished. What parts do you have and possible prices you are looking to get? I might be interested in the whole motor.

To find your messages it is under the forums tab, and when the pulldown opens up it is the link 3rd from the bottom.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
i got my mt2 on the 18th of feb. broke it in exactly the way it said in the manual on the 19th of feb. on the 20th i was running the truck in a parking lot (still not running it more than 3/4 throttle) and randomly the truck just has front wheel drive. so i go home and take the rear diff apart and the two inner axle cup gears shattered and the two spider gears had shattered also. but i called HPI and told them what happened and they are sending me all new rear gears by warranty, now i wait till they get hear.

Welcome caps.
If this is your first hpi truck you'll be happy to know hpi has great customer service.
Did you get the G3.0? The diff gears in the original mt2 are horrible. If you look at them wrong they break. You might want to get the heavy duty set and make sure you shim them properly. I dont recommend any 180 spins on the gas. That just shreads the diffs, trust me
Lets see a picture of the new truck.

How would the customer service thing work in my case? I bought all the parts off ebay and made my own mt2............ Do you have to prove that you bought it brand new?

Hey eminent, my guess would be yes. But who knows maybe if you prove to the company that they were brand new when you bought them off ebay (if they were) they might still honor the warranty. Always worth a shot to try to get new parts. If not you are no worse off than before the call [sm=50_50.gif] hope it works out for you.

I think it more depends on if you bought it new or used then where you bought it from. Email them and ask them, they might surprise you. Ive had great luck with them. Just because of their customer service alone HPI would always be my first choice.

The snow is finally melting here, hopefully will get out and get to run the truck some this weekend (with the top on and 100% finished this time ). Wanted to thank you all for the help again, invaluable information on here. I will definitely be around still, just wanted to thank everyone again. Hopefully spring is just around the corner for most of us.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
I got my latest MT2 - 114 shipped on ebay. It has a mix of negatives and positives. The differential output yolks have a lot of play and I think they are doinked. I will tear it down this weekend and see whats going on there. There are a few key fasteners and small parts missing but luckily I am well stocked after the last truck. I will also test the compression and see how tight it is but it has a good feel to it when its pulled. Other than that it has some neat parts on it like aluminum hubs and sway bars and I got a hump pack, glow ignitor andfuel bottle. The body isn't scratched but poorly trimmed and fixable.
I think my other MT2 will be an off-roader and this one will have a street setup.

I only had regular strength and it took most of the chrome off in about an hour (4x15 minute cycles). They are sitting soaked now until morning. I will get heavy duty this weekend - the nozzle clogged on the bottle I was using.

You could also try acetone, but try it on a small area first since some plastics kinda melt when acetone touches it.
