If temp is too high, then richen the hsn. (start with the hsn, then tune the other settings)
There is no 'ideal' temp for all nitro engines. Each engine has it's own personality, and runs best at it's own unique temp. As a rule though, you want to keep the temp between 200 and 275 degrees F.

For one thing dont really pay attention to temps as long as your not running it lean and these no air leaks then i wouldnt worry about it. To many people get all caught up in engine temps and there always complaining about tuning them. As i said as long as your not running it lean and have an air leak then you should be fine. But i would highly reccomend cutting holes in the windshield of your body on the drivers side to allow air to pass through, and cool off the engine when running with the body on. This may bring up the temp of your engine when running with the body on and will cause the engine undo stress because of the heat. Just cut those holes in the wind shield mak sure it's not running lean and make sure there is no air leak and you'll be fine. As long as your running the engine rich and theres no air leak then you should never have to worry about the engine temp.
Just do regular maintence such as cleaning the truck and make sure the fins on the head are clean of any debree and make sure to clean your air filter often. And maybe even seal of the engine such as 46u has stated in the post above. But the holes in the body are almost a must and should be done before taking it out again.

I do not tune to any particular temperature but to high of a temperature sure will cut down on the life of and engine. As long as my engines run between 210 to 270 I tune by the way they run. But a temperature gauge sure can keep you from burning up an engine and is a good thing to have. [8D] I do not have any problems tuning mine.

yes to high of a temp can result in early retirement for your engine but if his engine doesnt start to make good power till it hits 270 or 280 then i wouldnt worry about it. I have seen engines that would run 300 degress all there life and have 6+ gallons through them and still running good. Now i would say any higher then and you prolly have a problem but some engines have to get up to those higher temps till they start to run good.
Now i never had a temp gun and i dont not know or care about the temps my engine's run at. I now as long as they are not running lean and do not have anything else wrong with them then they are fine. As long as nothing is wrong (such as air leaks and such ) and your not running it lean then you shouldnt have to worry about your temps. I have seen some people have temp guns and try to chase around a certain temp all day and they never had any fun with there rc's till i told them to get rid of the temp gun and they finally started to have fun. Yes a temp gun is still a valuable tool for a noob to have so they dont poof there engines but as long as your experienced enough and can tell when it;s lean or when it's rich then there is no need for a temp gun.
All a temp gun does is tell you what your temp is then you decide weather your running to hot- so you richen it up or if your cold- then you lean it out. Well i dont know about you but i can tell weather it's running lean or to rich so there is no need for a temp gun. Thats just money i can spend on a-arms and such. As i said make sure your not running lean or have an air leak and there is no need for a temp gun.
But i will say that most engines do run between 200 and 275-----BUT as i said most engines and not all engines.
But thats my opinion.

it's getting up there in temp. But as i said some enginw's will run at 275 and higher and some will nevers see above 250.
Engines are like people they have there own personality's. Some like to run hot and some like to run cold for some engines yes 275 is hot anf for some it it normal if not a little cold. But 275 weather it being hot or cold can only be compared to what you have experience with. I have seen engines run 300 degrees before and have more then 6 gallons through them and there still running good. But i also have seen the same for 250 and lower. But basically as i said it all depends on what you engines personality's is and weather it has a personality issue or not.
When i say it has a personality issue is if it runs at any temp higher then 280 but as long as your not running your engine lean and you reach 275 then your fine and really shouldn't worry about it. Just tune for performance
But the answer to your question is yes and no.
