Im looking to spend around $300 dollars for a RTR, so i chose the Team Associated RC10GT2. But with nitro there has to be hassle, since its my first car. How much do you think ill actually end up spending fixing this car and little stuff llike that.

RE: What actually is RTR?
ok so look rtr is ready to run meaning the car, the starter, the radio manette and sometimes the batterie charger for the starter...
what do u mean by How much do you think you'll actually end up spending fixing this car and little stuff llike that.
is it broken??
well if u mean putting hop-ups (modifications) it depends what u take...
are u taking it new or used??
well if used id say u go with a jato 2.5... but thats just my opinion....

RE: What actually is RTR?
RTR means that you dont have to put it together. It does not include fuel and most dont include batteries. If you buy brand new you will need nitro and batteries. Most all the RTR comes with basic tools to work on the truck. Some dont come with remotes either. You need a RTR truck that has the remote, starter and assembled truck. Anything Traxxas has is RTR with the exception of nitro and batteries. You should not need anything else but I would recommend a $20 temp guage expecially if you are a nooby.

RE: What actually is RTR?
Temp Gauge 20.00 and up
Fuel 20.00 and up
Batteries (12) 15.00
Or your other option would be to buy 8 batteries for the remote, then purchance a hump pack for the reciever and a charger for it. Those two together will set you back around 70 bucks. But you will save lots of money from buying AA's all the time.
You will also want to buy some tools as you start working on the truck, your LHS (Local Hobby Shop) should have everything you need. However these tools can set you back. Beware of the cheap tools though, they will only give you problems.
So to be honest with you, to get it running spending another 100 bucks. But how much spend on Hop Ups and tools, thats up to you.
If you want to save yourself some money. Get some nice tools, and after every couple runs or so. Tear the truck all the way down. Clean it well, simple green and water. And when you are doing this you can inspect all the parts and see if something is trying to break, that way you can replace it before it ruins your day. I wont bother wasting space on how to wash the truck, I can explain that in another tread if you are interested.

Also, don't forget Air Cleaner Oil, you can't run without it! Or, I guess you could if you needed an excuse to buy a new engine, lol!

RE: What actually is RTR?
RTR does not mean pull it out and run it. You better check it over well before you ever start it as many times the person putting it together did not do something properly. All so I recommend to loctite all screws that go in to metal.

RE: What actually is RTR?
Well no one has mentioned a glow plug yet. Also if you buy traxxas you wont need glow plug but a 7.2v battery and a charger.
Also you can get a hump pack set up cheap on ebay for a lot less then 70. Maybe around 20-30 depending on what you get.
Anyways just pick out a rtr truck and tell us. Then we will tell you exactly what you need.
30 gallon nitro
15 glow plug
20 temp gun
10 batteries or 25 hump pack (ebay)
----------------------------
75 or 90 =(
You should already have the basic tools to work on your nitro and like said before alot of kits come with some cheap tools to start you off

RE: What actually is RTR?
IDK what hump packs ya`ll are talking about but i got my 1400Mah for 19.99+charger(19.99-60.00)
Tools you will need(if your doing your own work)
Hex drivers 0.5mm-4mm(or what ever there called)
Nut drivers tiny-5/16 (Better then a ratchet any day)
a small screw driver set(1mm-6mm Flat and Philips)
some wire cutters

10mm socket and a ratchet
What you need (to run)
Fuel (20%)
some extra glow plug
a glow igniter(SP)
WD-40(or after run oil)
8 AA/hump pack or 12AA
you don`t NEED but should get a fuel filter
stuff you`ll need later:
extra air filters
air filter oil
keep 2' of fuel line handy
grab some extra antenna tubes
foam safe Ca glue
keep a thing of loc-tight
and may want to get a thing of shock oil and a thing of Grease
And you should have just about anything you`ll need...

Ahh noo - He's started the WD40 vs after run oil debate.......

lets not and say we did
traxxas is probly the most rtr available, but they are cheaply built and the stock parts suck. i think your only gonna bash, so i think a hpi firestorm or mt2 would be better...they are very durable and i think all you need to get goin is fuel, batteries (?), glow plug ignitor (?), spare glow plug (a must for all cars), air filter oil, after run oil ( or wd 40), and greases/oils to have on hand.

I think every one needs to run WD 40 instead of after run oil BUT ME! It is not my engine. [sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif]

RE: What actually is RTR?
wd-40 evaporates and is not sticky to the microscopic level. you want a sticky oil for air filters because it attacts and holds on to dirt. you can use electric motor oil or turbine oil, these both work just as well. if you use accel foam air filter spray or k&N filter oil, it is much better than your tipical after run oil, it is very sticky comes in big quanties and traps more dirt, but the downside is that you must buy a big can of it and it pulls alot more dirt meaning you must clean it every 6runs.
the hpi mt is great, you might want that or duratrax nitro evader, its not garbage, i know that first hand. the name is ruined by stupid noobies.
a agree that traxxas is kinda on the low quality side, i know this because i have owned them. dont even consider the nitro sport!!!

RE: What actually is RTR?
The RC10GT2 is a good choice. As to what you need, a majority of tools will be in the box. All you need to add is a phillips and flat screwdriver. But check ut this link http://www.teamassociated.com/ae/gt2...ems_needed.htm
Hope this helps.
