Reporting from the beer tent again (pretty good beer in Poland by the way...)
Well try to get some more pictures but this GPRS connection is slow.
-Problems with the noise measurements. Most of the guys have been rechecked after the flight (a sign that the first measurement was over the limit. There are no windshields in the noise meters and the results will probably be discarded by the jury.
-Roland Matt's YS quit during the figure-9 in the P-03.
-English team has their spare planes flying after the disaster.
-Morten is flying despite his leg injury. Finn and Torkil are starting and he just needs to fly.
Markus Aaltonen from our team is flying soon, we have to finish these beers before he starts and go watch and support him...

I haven't been able to see Chip fly the bip yet as I have been on the other flight line, but I did watch Jason fly in a very strong wind today, with no problems. I believe he posted better scores today then yesterday.
It sounds like they are going to continue testing for sound, but will probably not penalize anyone for noise violations due to problems with the calibration of the meter.
You can check out the link for the current standings.
http://www.aeroklubpolski.pl/modelarstwo/23ms/index.htm
With 46 pilots on each flight line and using 30 for the ration is causing some pilots to always fly in the same wind conditions. If you started out in the morning or the evening on the first day, they you will be flying throughout the day. But for example, Chip will be flying at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, I'm not sure of the time for the 4th flight.
If anything else happens that Team Finland don't let you know about, I'll try and update this later.

From what I can tell they've all flown two rounds now, and the top ten should look like this unless I've missed someone.
Points/name:
1089 Somenzini
1081 CPLR
1056 Akiba
1044 Shulman
1038 McMurtry
1029 Hyde
1022 Benincasa
1006 Beschorner
996.82 Silvestri
996.44 W. Matt
Looks like the Matts are falling behind? Wolfgang i 10th and Roland at 956 points behind Norweigan Ola Fremming currently at 960. This is gonna be an exciting week!!!

Hello Jon,
Roland Matt is there, because his engine quit in the frist flight during the 9 with 3/2 point rolls. In his second flight (panel 1) he did the second best flight until now. Even better than Chip Hyde! Watch out... this guy will fly under the top five.

Roland Matt? A friend was at the European Champs, and in his opinion, Roland flew the best flight there. It's going to be soooo close, anyone of the top guys can win, Quique, Christophe, Chip, Roland. I can't help but think that monoplanes are still going to be the way forward!

Worlds Raw scores
Ok guys I have the Spread sheet going...those darn Europeans using the comma
instead of a decimal...Oh well I have it solved now....
Here are the results posted for Day2 of the Prelims
You can't count anybody as a leader now....Technically Quique and CPLR are tied with 2000 if they continue to win the judge panels they are leading now....Also TBL need to be applied and will not be until all pilots are seen by the judges.
It seems very close if the judging is consistent....If there is a higher scoring set of judges or a low scoring set of judges we will see it in the next day or so...as all the pilots filter through the judging pool.

OK guys...no TBL and not all pilots have seen the judging panel. We
will have a better idea after day 3 as CPLR and Quique will have seen one set of judges that are the same.....
Team USA looks like:
Chip 4,3 place
Sean 3,3 place
Jason 2,2 place
These are in the individual rounds....Over all scoring looks like
1st,2nd Quique, CPLR
3rd-4th-5th Akiba, Jason---Roland Matt has a low score he needs to drop
6th-7th Chip, Sean
Then its rounded out with in no specific order yet....
Marco Benincasa
Silvestri
Beschorner
Wolfgang Matt
Another look is Quique, Akiba, Roland, and Chip are in a group.
and CPLR, Jason, Sean are in a group
Again Go USA

I wonder if an empty set of cells can be made (just the ali foil bags/cans) for the weigh in, as the planes are normally weighed with the tank in place but no fuel, Just a thought

There is no end to how technical you could get about that rule.
I think that they should be weighed with the batteries in, sounds like it is not a problem anyway, and the situation for battery weights is only going to get better, not worse.
You have got to keep glow power competetive, at least for a while anyway.

I've even read that Roland had also troubles with his engine during the second flight. The engine went out before the start. That's why he lost time and the landing was zeroed. Imagine where Roland was without these troubles...

Well.. That's part of the WC.. It's about putting it all together when the time comes.
Christophe is in 2nd with a complete ZERO on one snap maneuver in the 2nd round. Imagine where he'd be if he got a score.
All of this is just prelims anyway.. It's all about making it to the finals.

The snap roll has been discussed at length this season.
5B.4.3.5. SNAP-ROLLS
A snap-roll is a rapid autorotative roll where the model aircraft is in a stalled attitude.
Snap-rolls have the same judging criteria as axial rolls as far as start and stop of the rotation and constant flight
path through the manoeuvre.
Since the model aircraft is in a stalled condition throughout the manoeuvre, the attitude and flight path must
show a definite break before the rotation is started. If the stall does not occur and the model aircraft barrel-rolls
around, the manoeuvre is zeroed.
Snap-rolls can be flown both positive and negative. The same criteria apply. If the model aircraft returns to an
unstalled condition during the snap, it is severely downgraded.
The type of critical judging is not taking place in national or regional contests...probably a disservice to the pilots rather than a good to have gimme'. The extraordinarly rapid roll accelerated with rudder (hmm, reminiscent of IMAC and TOC flying) is no longer going to constitute a "stalled condition" and it never should have. Full size pilots have battled about high scores going to what really amounted to dirty rolls and would have more properly deserved to be zeroed. Without the stalled condition, the perfect exit upon heading amounts to squat.
I guess it is better now to sacrifice a little in heading and exit altitude than to speed throgh the dirty roll looking pretty with a big goose egg to show for it.
It seems correct. if Christophe even took a 3 or 4 on the snap..4/8 he would have a siginficant margin of lead at this time.
This is all very exciting for me. Go Christophe.
Mark

The beer tent is closed, reporting from the Officers Club...
We watched Cristophe fly again today. The snaps were the same, fast axial rolls with a small amount of rudder and elevator thrown in. Still he got eights and nines. The other French, Matts and others did the same. Sean McMurtry and Tetsuo Onda were one of the few doing real snaps.
Other than the snaps, the quality of flying with Christophe, other French, Matts, Quique, the Japanese is just perfect. Hard to find any errors but that is what the semis and finals are for.
We just hope that somebody wakes up the judges about the snap issue before the semifinals. Bob Skinner had even shown them some videos on what a snap should look like, but they apparently haven't got the message.
The scores are varying wildly between the panes and individual judges so it's best to not take them too seriously.

Day 3 results
OK guys
Looks like some new developments
CPLR can win 3 rounds possible...but Chip took panel #3 from him. I think
this is the first loss of a round at the worlds since before Pensacola in
99'...On the other side CPLR beat Quique on both rounds they have flown
against each other.
Quique is still looking awesome with 2nds in 2 rounds...1st in another
Chip looking strong with a 1st and 3rd but needs to drop the 9th in panel
#2.
Jason and Sean slipping a little in total placing as some of the other
"ranked" flyers are hitting the same judges they saw a couple days ago.
Looks like today Jason had a 4th and Sean had a 6th....Still looking good.
Keep in mind Prelims carry into the Semi's only...then the Finals is a brand
new zero zero contest....So looks like Team USA still in the top 10 overall
and will make the big show...
