Hello everyone,
I’m planning to buy my first 2 meter Pattern Plane, and I have narrowed my list down
to these two plane * Phenom from www.centralhobbies.com and the * Aries from www.Aeroslave.com
And I want you guys opinion about which of these plane are the best, compare to eachother.
Your opinion will be appreciated.
Thanks,

No suggestion ( I have neither one), but an opinion I will share:
The Phenom IS UUUUGGGLLLYYYYYYY!
I would get the Aries on looks alone., But, I'm shallow and easily impressed!

I'd go for the Aries..
It's so much nicer looking, in fact, it looks like one of my Smaller 90 sized pattern planes scaled up.
Smooth lines and a nice profile.
Just my to $0.02 AUD[8D]

Here's another vote for the Aries.
While I do not have any first hand experience with either one of these airplanes, I would go for the Aries. The Aries has a larger fuselage and that will help the airplane present better. This might not make too much of a difference depeding on what class you fly now, but it would help the higher up the competition ladder you go. I also think the Aries is a pretty good looking airplane.
I have heard mixed reports regarding the Phenom's flying qualities. Some people say that it is a good airplane and that is snaps great, and others weren't too awful impressed with it. I am like Gerald, I don't particularly care for the looks of the Phenom either, but that shouldn't determine the flying qualities of something.
There's a gentleman named Wayne Galligan whose name is TOYMAKER here in RCU that flies an Aries, he might chime in and tell you his experiences with it. Good luck with whatever airplane you choose!

Hi everyone,
Well I also like the look of the Aries the most.
But the only thing now is….is it better flying than the Phenom???
And also I’m currently in Intermediate and planning to fly Advance next year.
Be the way thanks for the reply’s (opinion) and hope that TOYMAKER can gave
me a reply.

I started flying Intermediate this year and have been flying an Aries. I feel like
it's a great plane for any level, I've seen them fly in Advanced and Masters at a very competitive level. What I think is nice about the Aries is that it will do maneuvers slowly, flies very smooth, and as previously mentioned it's quite nice looking. The presentation of the plane is beautiful and I really think it lends itself to scoring very well. While I was building my Aries I flew a friend's Prophecy and though the Prophecy is a great plane the Aries flies much nicer.
You can ask TOYMAKER for his opinion, he started flying an Aries this
year and he immediately became more competitive. He has won most of the contests he's attended here in D6 this year.
I'm in the process of building my second Aries as a backup.
Here's are some pictures of my and other Aries from some D6 contests:

Best of luck,

Pro Pattern,
I have a Phenom it is a good flyin airplane in some parts of the advance seq. It snaps good and four points and slow very well. But it does not track as well as some airplanes and that can be a problem in the advance seq. Because you have to do a lot of lines in that seq. So with a strong wind you have to stay on top of the rudder. I have see the Aries fly at the nats but have not had a chance to fly one. I will give the Phenom one thing the wings that are done by Terry Darr are some of the lightest wing i have ever see. So with every airplane you have you +s ans -s. HARD CHOICE.

I had heard that the Phenom won't be produced anymore. I have also seen a Phenom kit and it was beyond belief bad. The quality was terrible in every which way. I like the way a fixed up one flys but they are just to poorly produced to get me to consider one. Does anyone know about the out of production issue? Mike

Mups53,
I agree with you in what said about the airplane as a product but I know how they fly. And they fly pretty good. But the quality on the kit is not up there with Piedmont Model, PL, or Znline but the price is a little lower too. So in short I think the Phenom and the Aries are about equal.

Hey Mike 2 of my Intermediate friends judged you at the Nats this year and said that your were really impressive with the plane. I know about the kit because my FAI buddy had one here. It flys very well to say the least. Do you know the current statis of the kit production? Mike

One vote for Aries. I have seen several fly and they present very well in the air. As one of the previous comments said, they fly slow, and stable lines. I have met Lance and Gray and I would feel confident in buying one of their kits due to their expertise and character (I would expect excellent customer support).
Just my .02.

Have seen a number of the Aires fly, and competed against them. They fly well and were designed, I believe to accomodate either 2 or 4 stroke engines(probably more 2 stroke hehehehehe)
Have a personal believe, if you don't think the plane is good looking, regardless of the airborne attributes, most pilots won't enjoy it as much. Simply put, your feelings of the looks are really important also.
Don't know about the Phenom, but the aires has a removable canopy on the top side, which is major importante to me. Have always despised removing the belly pan to get to something that could be easily gotten to with a removable canopy.

The Phenom is still going to be produced but it has a few changes so it will have a diffrent name. I have 2 of them but only have 1 flying and it flys great. The Plane is alot better than the Piedmont Focus so if you have flown 1 than you will be inpressed with this plane. It has a top acces also. If you need any more info on the new Phenom let me know and i will get you in touch with the designer.

I think customer support is a big plus that goes to AeroSlave. I have built 2 Entropy's and when I had a few questions on something Lance was always there to answer questions and give advise on his product. He stands behind the product and makes sure you are a satisfied customer. Not too many companies do that nowadays.

I may be a little biased on this post so take it for what its worth.
I like my Aries for many reasons. The first time I saw just the plug I knew its what I wanted before the mold was even made. Very nice lines and easy to look at. Now as for as the flying... that depends a lot on what one wants out of a competition airplane. Like how it presents (Aries does this nicely) how it setsup and is it capable of some of the manuvers required in todays schedules. The plane flies very good at slow speeds. As a matter of fact I had to learn throttle managment all over after flying a Prophecy for 2 yrs. With the right prop/pipe combo downlines are controled nicely. Rolls very well, presents well, is tolerante of c.g. changes, lands very good. Knife edges well and will even k.e. loop well. Currently has an O.S. 1.40 and powers it nicely. A mintor 1.70 is going in after the last contest this weekend.
An Aries was just purchased at the last contest in Dallas for the prime purpose of it being setup for electric powered flight. Same setup as Jason used in the World Championships.
Lance and Gray will help in about any way possible. Made in the good ole US of A.

Hi everyone,
I will probably buy the ARIES, but I’m waiting on my friends opinion.
They are currently in the US for the event of NSRCA District 3 Championships
in Pensacola.
And also a very nice paint job Wayne.
