Hello

A German Vortex; I think it's an all-wood construction ?

Beautiful picture Claude, thanks for sharing it !
I didn't know about this model but now i found some info about it on the german forum and they say it's wood version, built by the owner and well under 5kg.

Hi Jason,
The model is designed for electric power, and a Himax 6330 Pro motor (or similar) with a 100A ESC will work fine.
There were some plans for a YS conversion kit, but i'm not involved in this and don't know the status of the project.

I make the original electric version kit and YS200 Glow version kit of the Vortex that Alex and I made.

Yesterday I received my composite Vortex factory direct from Aldgirdas at RC Composites.
Quality, construction, and finish are crazy good: "Yang-like" being the highest compliment.
Other projects will delay assembly, so I won't have a flight report for a couple of months.

Sorry Gerhard, I didn't see your request until today.
Plane is nearly finished, so I will only be able to provide a finished weight in a week or so.
If the winds subside to less than 20mph around here, I will also be able to provide a flight report. lol

Had some unexpected large expenses come up, so should sell this plane before I finish and fly it.

The balsa version of the Vortex is now updated to version 3, to bring it up to the same specification as the composite version currently in production.

The main changes on this version are:

- larger stab with increased span to fix a pitch coupling in knife edge flight that could not be solved with conventional trimming methods;
- wing moved 28mm higher on the fuselage and dihedral angle reduced to 0 to fix the roll coupling in knife edge flight and make rolls more axial;
- stab moved lower by 8mm;
- modified incidence angles for wing and stab according to the attached drawing.

These changes were successfully tested on the prototype composite model and improved its flying characteristics by a large margin. The composite models produced now have all these modifications.

Here are the drawings for the Vortex V3 complete model:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1M_5...GybIYpxbnIpDV7

If anyone built the first version of the Vortex and wants to update it with the new wings and stabs, I made separate drawings for them:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_rM...oYZwHVAa1LwiCQ
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UQt...gBuoLijKpths5Y

If anyone wants to move the wing higher on the model, I can provide pictures to show how to do this modification for both the balsa and composite models.

The updated 3D models can be found at the link below. The mold plug models and a custom size 3D printed spinner are included:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qdJ...vyes08vk-eQ6gC
I can provide the spinner model for any diameter, just let me know if you need one. The material used for printing is Carbon PETG which is very tough and provides good strength for the backplate.

The color templates were adjusted for the higher wing position. PDF and DWG formats are included:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/18By...YSpslL9koNPx93

The instructions manual was updated to V1.3:

Default Vortex f3a build thread

Hi Alex, I have one of the first composite Vortex models that I am currently flying and also another composite Vortex that I have yet to put together
can I get the bigger stab detailed in your modifications from somewhere? Not sure that I want a new wing and to move it's position as it would involve a lot of work and expense.
Would replacing just the stab make a significant improvement?
Thanks
Regards Joe Wotton

Hi Joe,
Please contact RC Composit and ask about the large stab. With the original stab, i had a bad pull to the belly in knife edge flight and couldn't fix it by moving the CG or adjusting incidence angles. The large stab fixed that problem for me.
