I haven't flown a Venus yet but I have also heard that they fly great. If your wanting to build, a tracer is a really great flyer or for an arf, the best I've flown is a global advance, really solid flyer great performer. Lousy covering though
Have fun

I was looking in the $$100 to $$150 range and just ordered an skylark from hobby lobby, better "pattern looking" than the venus and thte global advance, the venus IMHO is a pattern/3D type of plane. Another option is the Javelin from Cermark (reviewed here on rcu) has very good reviews.. I didn't like the humpback canopy and that's the reason I got the skylark.
Does anybody has a web address for MK models?

I've been wondering the same thing as Skydive. What are the prices for the 40 size Alliance and Synergy? Would a TT 46 Pro fly either of these well?

The cheap way to go is the Hobbico Spectrum. nice dimensions, 56"x56" and nice for the price. I am finishing one up right now that I won at a contest that should be my "just in case" plane this upcomming summer. Power for me is a 70 Surpass, APC 13 X 7or 8 prop. Light!

be carefull whith spectrum gears i have put some fiber to reforse and the fuselage break before the wing, I look thesse problems in 3 spectrum, mine and 2 friends.
I think Widebodi is better.

You Guys are missing one of the greats in a Sig Kougar. Quick building, sheeted foam wing and with a good 46, will do anything. I flew one last year in my 1st pattern contest and took 2nd with it. Flies straight and lands like a trainer.

Beautiful pattern flier, got one with a Y.S. .45. Go to www.globalhobby.com to view and I know that www.quantummodels has them for sale at $189.99 and includes free shipping. Hope to see more Avances in the air. Your Jett .50 should make for an exhilerating experience!!!

I have a Venus 40 and a Matrix 40 and have seen a number of other 40 size
pattern ships fly. If you want, as you say "the best" pattern plane in a 40 size,
a CA Models Widebody 40 would be hard to beat. I haven't flown the 40 but I
have a Widebody 60 and understand that they are almost identical in the way
they fly. Unbelievably good flying airplane, much better than the Venus or any
other 40 size I have seen. Videos on their web site.

Try your luck and find hobicco Spectrum some stockist might still be carrying it. I am flying one with 50 SX tuned piped.Very precise and good aircraft perhaps they copied the Wolfgang Matt Rubin.Once trimmed properly handles superbly with excellent flying characteristics. Also be warned to check ANY ARF before assembly and put glue in all joints where they forgot to put the glue.
I am flying my Spectrum fitted with retracts.Never ever had any problem but I wont recomend retracts because they increase the wing loading.
Another choice would be thunder tiger Champion 45L if it is still available. This is a fantastic patternship with very low wing loading. The problem with ithis kit is the supplied hinges dont use them otherwise you ll be havin a lot of gap btw control surfaces use CA hinges instead. This plane won the National Championship in my country for 1999 although the skill of the pilot is a more important factor in that.
Also you can try Thunder tiger Imagine 50 designed by World champion Yoshioka. Also it is a good ship but the constraint is still the pilot skills.

i would say go for the kyosho majestic and if you have enought budget, you can put the new YS 63S into it.. (waiting for mine now..) Or if you are budegt tight, maybe the 46 or 50 SX will work well too.

I had a Venus .40. Lost it to a radio glitch.
Very hands free flying...almost no coupling on knife edge etc.
Flew mine with an Irvine .53...plenty.
Patten capable and sporty.
I currently have a Cermark Javelin II.
LOVE IT! High quality, pattern lines, super pattern-like flying.
I pattern competitor test flew it for me and was extremely impressed...he thought it handled
more like a .60 size ship. Mine has a YS 63.
Only cost $150 for the ARF...most folks at the field are in awe over the beautiful
blue sparkle covering.

Wow that Javelin II is beautiful. Where could I get 1? I have the Venus and I used to have the Kyosho Sensation 1400. The Venus is outstanding but I'm not hooked on the looks of it. The Sensation 1400 was a Prettner design and also an outstanding performer. Still that Javelin II has to be the nicest looking small pattern plane on the market. How's the quality of the ARF? Thanks, Mike

Take a look at the Carl Goldberg Tiger II. It is a kit, not an arf. At one time it was very popular as a beginner pattern ship. Build it straight and put a good bearing 45 - 50 in it and you will have a stable paltform that has unlimited vertical and very little roll or pitch couple. I think the kits are around 60.00 bucks. I flew my first contest with one powered by an OS46fx.

I don't see how you can beat the Alliance, Synergy or Majestic. I have had the electric Alliance, the 46 size Majestic and the 90 size Synergy. All are fantastic flying machines but then maybe I am biased to CPLR's designs. He is not world champion for nothing and he sure knows how to design a pattern plane. He just won the world championship with his big Synergy.
