You've got to be kidding. There are at least a couple of after market pipes I have seen for this engine that are $100 cheaper than OS's asking price for this pipe. Could someone explain to me just why I would even think about getting the stock OS pipe for that price.
I am trying to decide between another OS1.40RX ($760 engine, pipe & header) and the Mintor1.40 ($500 engine, pipe & header) seems like a no brainer.

They say Hatori throttles better than the OS pipe. Buy Hatori from Singahobby.com and I estimate you'll pay about half that price for a 1.40 pipe.

The OS pipe IS a Hatori pipe..... Hatori makes all the pipes for OS.
But as with car parts, the 'original' OS pipe is probably priced higher.
Consider the Greve pipe from www.f3alorenz.de.

A very good pipe to consider is the Bolly EQ 140R... very smooth timing, lots of power gain, but it is a very LONG pipe, tunes long, needs a long tunnel. North America importer gets about $135 USD, I think. I'm using one on my Mintor 1.70, very good performance.
Another, and FAR less costly option is the Mac's 1092, at about $80. A little heavier, and has the "tinny" aluminum sound, but also tunes very smoothly. I have one of those on my OS 1.60/Perry Pump setup - LOTS of power - APC 17 x 12N at 8500 on 15%.

Hi Steve,
I just got my mintor 170 and a ES pipe, it should be coming in in a few days. The whole thing was $640 with the pipe, but you might want to check out the bolly's they're very nice.

I just contacted singapore hobbies. They want $308.00 for the OS1.40 Hatori pipe! Unless I can find an aftermarket/used pipe for about $140.00 I will have to get the Mintor. Anyone got a source and model number of a pipe that will perform adequately in my price range?
PS: A pipe longer than the stock OS pipe will not fit my plane; and I need a US source. Right now the only one I've found is the MAC 1092 for $115.00.
Thanks, Steve

Here's some others [link=http://www.rcaerobats.net/Mintor/3M_140S_Main.htm]My Mintor Page[/link] listed...
Mac's 1290, slightly louder, from Mac's - $80
KS1015, from Desert Aircraft - $125
Bolly EQ120R, from Bolly North America - $140
Hatori "Real" 140 pipe, Radio South - $155
"Clone" of the Hatori, heavy, but works FINE, Just Engines, England - $80
Good, quiet pipes are worth the price.

Bob,
I'm only 200 miles from DA and have their DA50 engine, really good company. Do you have any experience with their KS1015 pipe on the OS1.40. The price is right and they are close by. I also have found an ES CF pipe for $140 used. anything to choose between the two. thanks.

If you have length constraints, I've used a bolly 590 muffler on three OS1.40's with excellent results. No mid range issues, using both 17-12 apc and 15.5-12 four blade. I also used the Mac pipe with good results. Though to soften up "coming on the pipe" it ended up being a long setup and I didn't think the little extra HP was worth it.

Splais,
Central Hobbies has the OS pipe for $164.97 part #OSMG2945. Its not shown on the website....but call them up. It is the latest Catalog that just got sent out last week.

You need to be cautious about just sticking any old pipe on it. The tuning of the 2 strokes is very important. The crowd will tell you to run a muffler and that it doesn't matter.
Most common problems with the 2 strokes are pipe length setups. I have seen very few 2 stroke setups work really well. Every one of them that I felt worked well has been either using the stock OS setup or the owner played with the lengths and spent a bunch of time setting it up.
OS designed it and set it up for a certain prop and certain RPM.
My experience running the OS 140EFI for a full season and playing with the 140RX, Webra 145's (160's are basically the same setup) is that the Stock Hatori pipe 900 Works very well on the OS. The best setup is the largest ES pipe. The extra volume helps the motors with the midrange problems. The problem with this huge ES pipe is its length. Backplate to stinger is about 41-42". But this is the best setup I have seen run. Next in line is the OS (Hatori 900) pipe.

ESD2C160L9 is the best one has the 7/8" inlet and the most volume.
ESD2C140X8 is good also but has a smaller volume and the 3/4" diameter inlet.

Troy -
Stupid question:
If you start the measurement flush with the inlet, where do you stop the measurement? At the point where the stinger starts, or where it starts the "cone" down to the stinger?
I ask because the ESD1402CS8 and S9 are only a half inch differance in length.
I believe I have the S9 and it seems to make exact pipe length less of an issue with the 140RX.

Mike,
the 8 stands for the 0.75inch dia inlet...3/4"
the 9 stands for the 7/8" inlet
Also the diameters of the fat part of the pipes are different.
Check Centrals website for the dims....
Yes the 7/8" inlet will be less critical as it is more volume...The guys that have the 2 strokes running well know that the volume is important.
