I had the chance to fly my Focus with a JR8411 on the rudder and then later with a JR8611 on the rudder.
I had already fitted an 8611 to the Double Vision and it was just fine. (The DA-50 version). I shall be putting the 8411 back into the FOCUS-2. The rudder was, dare I say it, too strong. I did not need the response that it gave. I added much more expo and even slowed it down, but it was not as nice as the 8411.
I think that it is a great servo but is heavier and definitely used more juice than the 8411. My C-Volt allows me to monitor the usage and it used more battery over four flights than the 8411. Also the 8411 SA is a lot cheaper :-)
Regards,
Eric.

Well, I have to say I've seen just the opposite. I put an 8611 into the Partner, and I like it. I did make a few adjustments to settings, but the plane seems even more solid and the rudder response is excellent.
The 8411SA is a very good servo for a pattern plane rudder, but I thought the 8611 was a touch better.
IMHO, if weight is not an issue, there is no such thing as too fast or too powerful a servo.
You gonna make it out to Riverside this year, Eric?

Tony,
The real point of my note was that I didn't need to have an 8611 to do the job. I can still Knife-edge loop the same plane, with any choice of radius, with the 8411 and the 8311, (I use both types).
There is a great temptation to rush out and install the latest and greatest in our pattern planes. Manufacturers might like us all to go and do that :-) I Like to try things out and then report as independantly as possible on their perceived neccesity as well as their performance.
It is, of course, a matter of personal taste. I know some pattern folks that still do not like digital servos and run with 500 mAh RX nicad packs, and do just fine, I hastily might add.

Eric.
