Is anyone Building or Flying this plane?
At CA's Site the Specs state that it is lighter than EPSILON.
Weight ready to fly less fuel?
Engine Configuration?
Kit Quality and Flight Impressions?
I really like the looks of that plane and I try to convince myself not to buy it

Hi Baper.
I finish my Zafiro just 2 weeks ago and I love this plane
.
I did only 6 flights.
The flight first impression?... well, is a great plane without vices or tendencies, ideal for precision aerobatics. I dont prove for 3D flight still... May be later.
The kit quality is very good, the fiber glass fuselage is excellent and very light. The wings and tails are in foam with balsa.
The construction is too easy, I build everything with epoxy 30'.
My setup:
Engine: OS 91FX with Perry pump.
Servos: 2 Futaba 3001 aileron.
2 Futaba 3001 elevator.
1 Futaba 9303 rudder.
Weight: 3,750 Kg less fuel.
Well, I hope that it helps you.
Any other questions, just ask me...

This weekend I´m going to take several pictures to publish.
The fuselage does not come ready to put a tuned pipe but is possible, with some modifications. I think that is not necessary, the OS91FX with muffler is a great combo, that is my opinion.
Just for curiosity, what engine you have in mind?
Thanks.

I just got my Zarfiro today and man it is Beautiful.. Marcello was at Joe nall this past year ,and he had this plane and the fantasy.. He let me fly the Zarfiro and it was awsome. the plane is a good pattern plane and the 3D is great . Why didn't they have this stuff 10 years ago.. He had a OS 91 FX in it ,no tune pipe.. here is a picture of the engine up close.. dewey

Yes, is easy to modify and have enough space, you must to make a hole and a small compartment for the tuned pipe, wait to see the pictures.
The YS110 is a great engine and I think that is not too heavy, just a little more than OS91FX.
I think that YS110 is good for 3D flight and the OS91FX for IMAC. Marcelo recommended me anyone of these two engine...

Hernan,
Thank you for the pictures!!
Well, I think it will be better off to get a performance specialties one piece tuned muffler than a regular tuned pipe with header if used with 91FX. I hate work on the glass fuselage for pipe tunnel.
Otherwise, a 4-stroke will be a good idea.
By the way, what kind of paint is it?

PatternFlyer,
If you want more pictures with details, just tell me, is no problem...
I think that the YS110 is more than enough power, if you do not want to modify the fuselage this engine is the best choice.
I tell you that the OS91FX is too a good choice, the vertical is unlimited... think about that... [8D]
The paint I used is polyurethane bicapa, 2 components, for finishing (automotive paint).
I did prepare the colors bases with the samples of Oracover (I used Oracover films).

Hey everybody,
I am currently finishing up my Zafiro. Hopefully I can get it done soon. Anyway, some have asked about which engines to use and about tune pipes. I have installed a YS 110 and a Hatori pipe. The pipe was pretty easy to fit in the fuse. I did it because I love the lines of this plane, especially the cowl, and I would hate to see a muffler sticking out of the front. I'll post some pictures here shortly, maybe tomorrow.

I noticed you use a Perry pump. Is it difficult to set up and / or tune?
Also, why did you use a 9303 for the rudder?
Thanks / Gracias, saludos

The setup is easy,I did not have any problem with that (see the pics).
For tune the pump I turn 1/2 clockwise (close) the hex screw, just for more amount of fuel.
I don't have any experience with perry pumps but with this setup the engine works perfect.
I used the S9303 just for more torque in the rudder.
With a standard servo for sport or patterns flying is enough but for 3D flying is necessary.
Hernán.
P.D.: como anda todo por ahÃ*?
Si estás por armarlo y querés saber algo al respecto, escribime, no hay problema.
Un abrazo.

Hernan, thanks, it was vey helpful, I just wondered how much effort is required to set up a pump.
PD:
estoy decidiendo entre el Zafiro y el Epsilon, pero el motor va a ser el mismo supongo....
por aqui todo bien, te escribo cuando decida.
gracias y saludos

Well, I finally finished my Zafiro. I flew it today for the first time. It was quite windy so I didn't attempt anything other than keeping it in the air. Despite the gusts of wind, it handled very nicely. This is my first pattern plane so I don't know exactly how to describe how it flew other than very fast and it went where I pointed it, let me repeat, very fast!
So, here are the specs:
YS 1.10
Hatori pipe
JR 8103 with three DS811 and two Hitech digital mini servos and one other generic mini for throttle
Paint is PPG and covering is Monokote
I haven't been able to weigh it yet but it seems pretty light and by the way it flew I think it is alright. The take off was very short, power simply is not an issue. I cruised about half throttle into the wind and idle downwind (not kidding). As for stalls, it was pretty uneventful, which is ok with me. Landing was easy and smooth. It needed a little down and right trim but it was not bad at all. I can't wait until it's calm so I can push it a little more. Overall, I am very pleased with the plane. It was fun putting it together and I learned a lot. I chose to put in wing adjusters but I don't know how necessary they were. Adding the pipe wasn't to bad, just a little more work but I love the lines of the fuse, especially the front so I wanted to preserve as much of the fuse as I could.

Hey miniCAP... it wasn't was fast as my Mach 1 Meridian... he he. I've got to say you did an awesome job on the Zafiro. I liked yours so much, I bought one yesterday from Pattern Proz
. The Zafiro has got to be one of the sweetest non 2M ships I've seen. From watching yours, I'd say a YS110 is over kill power wise, but it didn't seem heavy to me either. One thing is for sure with that plane/engine combo; you can make maneuvers as big as you want. I too plan on putting a YS 110 in mine when I get it done. Later!
