you need to use reply to the existing msgs, not the fast reply method..

So i have this great canopy and all i have to do is repaint the trim black and blend....

WRONG!!!

I tape the canopy, sand, paint.. looking great, go to remove the tape and remove all the silver which was previously there.. ahh poop.

so, more taping, more sanding, more painting which i am no good at and we will see what becomes of this mess.

I recieved the deps and installed it without much trouble at all. I sheeted in the bottom of the fusebox and sanded the edges flush with the fuse sides.

I marked the foam of the rear bottom turtle deck and sanded the balsa sheeting flush with the foam. After a trial fit, I glued the bottom rear deck in place with lots of tape. I used the same steps to fit and glue the forward bottom deck in place. I will cut clearance in the bottom deck tunnel later for the pipe and sheet the inside walls to finish off the pipe tunnel.

The canopy has been trial fitted, but nothing else yet.

Well, here are the results, just need to let it dry completely, and wetsand.

I think i like it, but i would do something differently next time given a chance to better plan . actually, i am going to use the stock canopy from now on!

Mike, thanks. I can't wait to see everyone again and get to flying and jawing. Hope you can get Bretts new machine together and the kinks worked out in time. How is it coming along? You could always knock out an Insight if you need too (grin).

I think i got it. This is something i had been toying with for a while, saw a picture of something like this at the Worlds and liked it. This will be my new canopy setup on all my following planes, i like it.

The best way to answer that is I have done almost nothing other than read in this form how well everyone else is doing. I had a job change and have used that as an excuse for being slack. I have, however started by cutting out the foam templates and will start cutting with the hotwire, so we shall see. Matt

Too little time to build......guess that's why we have arf's.....still, I did start on the pipe tunnel. I simply cut the belly pan to fit the greve pipe as needed.

Well, some people have been buggin me about weight. Wings are done ready to bolt on and fly.

land right are identical to 1/10 of a lb and com ein at 14.5 oz.

Although I still have to finish out the pipe tunnel, I put the gear legs on and added the canopy section. I did a little rough sanding of the fuse and put it on the scale. This weight includes the deps and budd engine mount - 30.0 oz.

I really do have all the other stuff we talked about last time out at the field and I will bring it all out Saturday when we have the club meeting. I am really looking forward to having her ready for the upcoming season. The wing scheme is done(in my head) and easy I just need a scheme for the fuse...I know the colors ...just what amounts and shapes is all.... |Cant wait to get my hands on a thuroughbred. I think Chuck's plane looks great. The canopy reminds me of the old Super Ringmaster full bodied C/L stunt plane from yesteryear! (showing my age)

Wow Mark, its clear that with all of the practice you are getting building these things that they are getting cleaner and cleaner in their roughed in form. The lines already look so smooth and elegant on Johns plane and its not even finished yet, its really going to be a nice looking plane. I'd bet you are using a lot less filler and doing a lot less sanding than you used to.

Chuck yours is looking real good too.. I dont quite know what to say about that canopy, the word that comes to mind is,,,,, interesting.[8D]

Painted the pipe tunnel and engine compartment. I used lustrecote.. nice and black. Then.. Mark and a few others recommended using the finishing epoxy.

Mark gave me a hint of using the heat gun and letting the epoxy flow. What a great idea.... i could easily move the epoxy where i wanted and got a nice shiny good solid even coverage with it.

Hopefully i might have it fully assembled and ready to weigh in by Sunday night, then i just gotta find a scale.

Finally got around to working on the plane a little bit....

-cut the canopy at the front and back
-glued the cutaway pieces to the fuse
-capped the pieces on the fuse
-capped the front entry area of the pipe tunnel
-taped the elevators and rudder to drool a bit....

you are dressed like you need a space heater mark.. hehehe.. you got room and no climate control. i got climate control and no room.. bummer aint it

progress report:

-slight change of powerplant plans...will be using standard OS muffler...yes, the standard muffler....btw, we are looking for one and will give a fair price

-the standard muffler with bolts and adapter plate is heavy (10.9oz.)...However, the original plan included a greve pipe, pipe mount, silicone coupler with clamps to a short header extension (helped mid range), header extension, silicone coupler with clamps to a wrap around header, the header, and header bolts.......all this weighed in at a hefty 12.5oz. I have included a pic of my Insight with this setup.....power is not an issue, noise is not an issue (still need to get a good db reading) and simplicity gets high marks.

back to the build:
-mounted rear canopy with carbon pins
-still working on front canopy facings....will use a hatch latch here
-closed up the pipe tunnel cutout (see above..)
-reset motor mount position and made a small cutout for OS head clearance
-mounted dorsal fin using an unused portion of the vertical fin
