RE: Sword 2M pattern plane
Mintor 170, es pipe, JR 811 or 821's? Maybe Chuck remembers? I'll look wed.
I'll part with all the 2-1/2engines, one runs good, one runs but needs a ring(doesnt idle very low). The other one is parts. Strong engine but they are finicky.
$350 CAN HAVE IT ALL, The pipe is probably worth $200.

RE: Sword 2M pattern plane
I've had mine for about a year and worked on it off and on. I finally got to test fly it today and I tell you, for a lower end pattern plane, it flies very well. I trimmed it for hands off and will fly straight until you get back on the sticks. Our club field is too small so I had to fly it at the airport. I decided on a Super tigre G2300 converted to gas. It turns a APC 17X6@ 8800 RPM and weighs 12LB 8OZ full of fuel. The ST2300 pulls the plane nice.
BTW, my dad owns TxRCplanes and lent me the plane to evaluate. I think I'll keep it.

RE: Sword 2M pattern plane
That's good to hear about the sword, I am trying to keep it light, will fly it with electric power a Dualsky outrunner and 10S packs, then I might try an MLD28 on a pipe.
The firewall has thrust lines marked on it, there are 2 vertical lines, did you use those to lineup your thrust line? or you changed something?
Thanks

Hey acam37,
Any word on when the new Sword will be in? For the price it can't be beat.I was thinking of doing a build thread for a low budget 2 meter. Keeping track of all expenses and seeing how cheap I could build a two meter plane. Aimed at someone who wanted a 2-meter planeon atight budget.Or someone who wanted to try pattern without a second mortgage.

RE: Sword 2M pattern plane
I finally got mine ready about a month ago and have flown it a few times and am very pleased with it, It is light and flies realy well, here is my setup
Dualsky 6350 outrunner motor
Jeti77 ESC
APC 19x12W prop
HS6635 on the elevator and HS225s on ailerons and rudder.
Flightpower 5350mah battery pack
Changed the landing gear to an aluminium one I had
Built a battery tray where the bottom hatch is,
Final weight is about 10.5 lbs.
Will post some pictures soon.

RE: Sword 2M pattern plane
Are you talking about the Sword, or the Fortana that replaces it? Anyone have some detailed pictures of the Fortana?

RE: Sword 2M pattern plane
Jimmy,
I had an electric Sword. I mounted my batteries under the chin cowl which was a big mistake. It took over 8 oz of lead in the tail to get it to balance. I considered mounting them in the pipe tunnel; but, didn't like the idea of stressing the wing bolts with 3 pounds of batteries during high G maneuvers. If I did it again, which I wouldn't, I would bite the bullet and cut a hatch into the top of the fuselage.
I wouldn't convert another Sword (or anything else) to electric because there are a lot better alternatives available today that where not available 4 years ago when I converted mine. There is an abundance of used engines available cheap that would be a much cheaper and a better match for your Sword. If you really want to go electric, I would sell the Sword and put the money towards something like a Vanquish, Monolog or Osiris.
Just my 2 cents.

RE: Sword 2M pattern plane
thanks for the reply and honesty,
i chose electric as i know nothing about a gas engine. biggest fear is getting it off the ground then a flame out lol.
mounting the batteries seems to be a challenge.
I starting flying pattern july of this year with a 62" Osiris after two contests I am wanting to move up from sportsman.
with the Osiris I was wanting to fly in a little to close as the plane is smaller.
I got the sword as a entery level 2m as I have to build this on a budget.
