Hi,
I'm in the market for a 2x2 pattern plane, not very sure when I will get it as it is not very urgent.
Comp ARF Impact looks quite nice and is an ARF which is what I'm looking for. Is a YS 140-FZ enough for the plane or I should I go for a bigger engine size? I'm not a FAI pilot, my level I would say is intermediate, so I will not fly very complicated and demanding schedules.
Any other plane recommendations for the YS 140 are more than wellcome.
Rgrds.

In my experience, the FZ will just barely be enough but it should fly the plane well for intermediate. IF its a very good running FZ that isnt too worn and is capable of developing most of its original HP potential.. I had an older one on my Prophecy and I felt just very slightly underpowered, especially when the weather temperature got up in the 90's (32- 37C) during the summer and I live at sea level. I ran a 15x11 or a 16x10 on mine. The 140 sport would probably be better but hey, you have to work with what you got and the FZ should suffice.

Another good option is the ICEPOINT from Ultra-RC, it is a very nice plane and it just cost$480usd!. Besides that the wing have the preparation for installing retracts.
Hope this helps

I'm using the FZ on my eclipse......No problems. I had a friend fly the FAI sequence with my plane. Lacking a little power there, but it still flew the sequence.

He is right,,, its really not an ARF... Its painted in the mould and it comes with the hardware and wood parts for assembly but you have to put it all together. You have to set the firewall and nose ring, install all of the tray assemblies and build in the structural supports in the tail to eliminate the risk of tail failure due to flutter you have to finish up the pipe tunnel work,,, all of it,,, other than paint you have to do it all..

Can someone who owns the plane tell us about the flying and construction qualities of the Icepoint ? I mean roll and pitch coupling with rudder, snap performance, landing characteristics, sturdiness etc.

Xeretai Stavros,
I will let you know when I get mine in the air. I am assembling it right now for a review in Model Aviation Magazine.
Say hello to Meskos for me.

Hi again,
What do you guys think of the Colombo Anderson Epsilon 120? It has a traditional lazer cut wooden box structure with foam wings. Has anyone flown pattern with it? I like the looks of that plane and I think that my YS-140 FZ will be ok. The only issue is that I will have to use a muffler instead of a pipe as there's not a traditional belly pan underneath.
Any opinions?

Hello Dean,
thank you for your prompt reply to my question. I am really interested for the Icepoint allthough I am trying to find a cost effective way for its shipment to Greece. I want to fly a wooden plane next season so, I ended up choosing eigther the Icepoint ARF or the Typhoon 2000 (which I have to build of course).
As I don't have a good word to say about my past Chinese kits (poor design and construction) it will be a pleasant surprise to know from you that this plane (Icepoint) is an exception.
I will give your salutations to G. Meskos.
