Hi,
There have been several conversions of the Venus II done, probably the best docummented one was done Ed Lyerly in rcgroups.com. His set-up used a 300 KV outrunner on a 8S pack. The biggest issue with the Venus is simply battery access: you will need to cut a battery hatch into the plane. An option would be to make the canopy into a hatch which is probably the cleanest way of making a hatch.
Good luck,
Teo

Here's a link back to my post of my EP setup from a while ago. I still have my EP Venus II and every time I take it out to fly I kick my self for not flying it more. Right now I'm using a 3300mAh battery (6S), but would like to go a little larger for the flight time. Was thinking around 3800mAh, not much larger. One of the other guys here at work has the same setup as I, but uses a 5,000mAh pack. He likes it. I don'ttoo heavy for me.
To access the battery I just flip the plane upside-down and put it in my Robart cradle, then take the wing off. I don't mind. And adding a hatch would mean more weight.

Thanks guys, I thought about doing this for sometime now. I have no idea why they stopped making this airframe as the Venus 2 with the 120 os is a great setup. I hope I am making the right decision, I do love the smell of nitro and the smoke trail it leaves I will miss it. I should have bought two kits at that time.
Thanks again guys for all your help.

Easier to do than say. Tack glue a 1/16th or a 1/32 piece of balsa to the back plate of the spinner you are going to use. stand the fuselage on it's tail and center the back plate with the engine attached to the cowl. then tack glue the mount to the fiewall. remove the back plate and the cowl. and drill where the mount is tack glued to the firewall.
By the way this is best done before the rudder is glued to the fin.

I just got the Venus up for the first time this season. I plan to attend my first pattern contest in a couple of weeks. I noticed last year, and didn't think much about it, I am carry a lot of aileron trim. Visual doesn't revealing anything out of sorts on the wing and the ailerons are straight. What could be causing it to require so much roll trim for straight and level? With a one piece wing it seems rather strange to me. Could you guys list some things I need to check?
Thanks

Check the balance. Yarn around the engine crankshaft and in front of vertical stab, cut to equal length and use golf club and pick up the plane suspended by the yarn. See if it balances, high side needs weight
If it balances I would make sure the servos are centered, adjust the servo arms and adjust the linkages. That's about all I got, I am pretty new to the hobby.
Weak Signal Contest? If so we'll have a few Venus IIs there, have to do some formation flying!

Mine required some tip weight to balance it laterally...on the side opposite the cyinder, if I recall correctly. You can remove the covering from one of the lightening holes on the underside of the tip, glue the weight in and re-cover without much trouble.

tele1974,
My Venus also needs quite a bit of aileron trim. I did a careful check and found that the wing was warped which is most likely the cause. Lateral balance is ok (my Saito is mounted inverted). I purchased the model assembled last winter and the warp wasn't obvious at the time. Needless to say I am disappointed...
I haven't flight trimmed it yet, so I do not know how this will affect the plane.
Regards,
Jerry

I got some more practice in on the Sportsman sequence tonight... and found out it needs a lot more practice. Their was 15-18 mph winds out their tonight. Perfect night to practice pattern. I noticed my Saito 125 is having difficultly pulling over the top and I am wondering what prop I should be using. I am currently running a APC 15x8 prop. I also noticed that in the air, it sounded like it wasn't turning the RPM's it was a couple of days ago on the up lines. I think it got it tuned correctly on the ground. Is it leaning out in the air? I am only on my third gallon of fuel through this engine. Actually this is my third gallon of glow fuel ever. So...ya...newbie. You guys have a prop recommendation?

From what I have read the OS 120AX is stronger motor than the Saito 125. My Saito is spinning the 15 x 8 at 8950. So more prop? I would have gone lower in pitch to keep the RPMs up. I must have it backwards.

Ihave about 5 different props Iexperiemented with, recommended by OS and what a majority of people here said, and put on six flights with each prop. If you searched this thread you will find some positive comments with a Saito 125 running a 16X6.

I have/had a 16x8 on my 120AX. Flew my .110 4 stroke with a 16x6 and 15x8 (tried 15x10 but was too much load). 16x6 was awesome if you can get enough RPM out of it and maintain a good cruising speed, otherwise 15x8 would be better choice. Might be something like 15x8 in wind and 16x6 for calm day.
VII is awesome one a 4S (I guess most of them are though).
