Don't know if anybody interested was aware, but 4 weeks ago the Protech warehouse burnt down. They are now very busy rebuilding and restocking, and are already shipping again. However, I can imagine it will take sometime to get stock of planes again.
So, since I already had my eye sometime on a Tojeiro 90 or 140, I decided to buy maybe the last one in the Netherlands, and make a building thread of this. I bought a Tojeiro-90.
I really hope this plane will come back in the "new" catalogue of Protech, let's see if this build will help in this!!
Anybody having good experiences with this plane, put it on the thread, so we can all enjoy!

OK, just opened the box. I really love the quality of the hardware supplied with this kit. Also, with the Tojeiro-50 I was positively surprised, but this is better.
Pull-Pull for rudder, bell-crank for elevator. Real hinges! Oracover for covering. The wings are balsa covered foam, two piece. The fuse more or less ready for a pipe.
This plane will be powered by a APC 14x10, OS-91 FX with Merker pipe and a VP-30 pump. Really nice combo, I used this on my Fliton Infinity and it ran really well. The only thing I did not like was that with the Infinity I had the engine inverted (this one will be at 8 o'clock) and since the wing was only piece, I always had to take off the pipe. Now I can build all in very well, and should not be bothered anymore.
I also like the stabilizer which has a profile.

Here's a picture of my Tojeiro-50. It is powered by a Saito FA-82, APC 13x8. Weight 2.6 kg. Flies like the wind. I do expect the Tojeiro-90 to fly quite different due to its size and profiled stabilo.

My Fliton Infinity was only 3500 grams, but then again, the wing folded up in flight
. I do want to see if I can reduce the weight a bit. It should be around 3.6/3.7 kgs. We will see. I don't want to end up again with a plane in pieces on the ground....

Nothing negative by the way on the Fliton, I really, really liked the way it flew, it was wonderfull. But it was designed to carry a four-stroke. I flew it with a two-stroke with a pipe. This pipe did not really fit well and it always put pressure on the wing when mounted. This in the end was too much for the wing and it broke in two pieces...

glued in the hinges for the ailerons. They are pre-cut, but I wasn't happy with the hinge-gap, so I recessed the hinges, for a minimum hinge gap. I have never sealed a hinge gap but I am thinking about it. Anybody with experience with this? Is this necessary on this size airplane?

any progress here?
Got this bird myself today, looks dangerously sexy. This one will be powered by a os 91surpass.
I will upload some pics soon!

finally we are at year end, not much time for working on airplanes sofar. Good thing is I have now definitely decided on what engine to put on. I was somewhat confused by the weight of all parts (about 4 kgs) so I was thinking about maybe a Saito 125 or OS-120AX. However, I do think it should fly well as well with my 91 FX with pipe, so that's what it is going to be!
Will be good to see how quickly you progress, should motivate me as well!

just to show what a mess it is today! Collected all electrics etc.
In the background you see my Tojeiro-50, which I use for winter flying. Weather is too good sofar, so I prefer to fly iso building!

Hey i sent you pm, did not see your post before now! But your concern about the all up weight of the tojeiro 90 is a worry i understand ,it is to heavy . mine with fut 3050digi ,asp91 with bolly eq60 pipe, fut 149dp receiver,2s 1700mha lipo with 4,8v regulator , the all up weight is 4,1kg . this is more than the pattern planes from the early 1990 ,and the span is smaller .....
But it handles well in the air ,and is more than good enough fore pattern practice . ps your os91 is perfect sized engine fore the tojeiro 90.

Wing Area 43 dm²
Weight 3,7 kg
This is 86 gr/dm²
I think is very heavy
and if the weight is 4100gr then we have 95.35 gr /dm² [X(]

pls reply with fly report

It flays well and precis ,i have many flights with mine ... problems with the weight is fore me in the landing and some maneuvers ,but it is not a weary big problem fore a novice patter flayer like myself . But if a good competition pilot where to fly it ,he might think it is garbage . The thing that surprises me is why protec sets the all up wight to 3,7kg when it is impossible to come so lo on the scale, and they also brag about how they have manage to built a wooden plane that will out preforme modern composite models in weight stiffness and precision. just see fore your selfs http://www.protech.be/html/t0407tojeiro.html

Murdoc, any chance on a maiden in Norway at this time of the year??? I really wonder how it would be flying with a 90 4-stroke...
#19
well, the weather around here is not much to brag about, but once in a while we have some nice days for flying!
Tojeiro vs 91 4stroke... It is not many but there is a few tojeiro 90"s flying around with 70 4 stroke.
I think it will be ok with a 91 4 stroke, but thats about it. I"m not sure if I will be able to do those endless verticals, but time will show!
Happy new year!

Wagen017,
I'm fying the Tojeiro 90 with a YS 91AC. Run 20% nitro and 20% oil and turning 14 x 10 APC prop. I had to custom build the pipe tunnel and I also rearranged all the servo mounts at the rear of the canopy. I moved the rudder servo in the center and lower the elevator servo (servo lying on it's side) below the rudder servo and it is located a little off center for the push rod back to the elevator bell crank. I have not weighed it, but I do not have any trouble with it's vertical performance. It was flown by an experienced pattern and IMAC pilot and he said it was a real smooth aircraft and with few aileron and rudder mixes the aircraft would be very competitive.
I forgot on other issue is with the landing gear. They are real heavy and week. Protech is aware of the problem and it going to change that for the next production run. I used a carbon fiber gear for the Hangar 9 Showtime. I cut the gear in half and transfered the bolt pattern and they work great. I fly off of grass and I went to a larger foam Dubro 2 3/4 inch wheel and the wheel pant from the Showtime. The purple trim on the pants matches the purple on the aircraft.
Good luck
Larry

Murdoc: wauw, a Tojeiro-90 on a 70 4-stroke! I am flying my Tojeiro-50 on a Saito FA-82a (which, I admit, is now overpowered!).
Larry, could be nice if you could put a picture of your servo arrangement in this thread. What kind of rpm are you getting on your 14x10 propellor? I had about 8500 with my OS-91FX with an APC 14x10. However, I always keep my engines running on the rich side.
Happy flying for everybody in 2007!!

maybe we can put some collective thinking into weight savings on this plane. I thought about dropping the wheel pants (50 grams) and using carbon for the wing and elevator tube (also 50 gr?). Also using the supplied spinner (plastic) in stead of a Tru-turn spinner (aluminium). What else?
#24
Well, I don"t use the wheelpants becouse they are way to small. They say it flies good as it is, but it is to much on the heavy side.
Think I will fly mine and test it as it is, then if I"m not satisfied with it, I will begin lighten it up.
First I wanted the onyx 140 but they have been out of production for a while!

The weelpants are smal but not to smal ,i have loged many flights and they are still as good as new ,but of corse they are not nessesery . To get the wingload down i have a litel mad plan ,wich is to by the wings of the 140size and modefy them a bit , i think it can be worth the eforte.... The picture is of my tojeiro ,the picture is from evje norway.
