One more correction on the motor issue, Blaire is from Lake View, South Carolina; not North Carolina. He's a great guy.

Question: I have a plane I want to start practicing pattern with, but I am having difficulty trimming it. It is a H9 UltraStick 40. Would someone coming to the contest be able to help me get it trimmed right? If so, when would be a good time to meet?

Thanx,

Robert,

I would be happy to help out.

I live in Goodyear, and go to Sun Valley usually.....

I'll be flying almost everyday between now and the contest. We can hook up.

Shoot me a PM or email and I'll send you my phone number. We can get you going pretty quick. The basics are easy the subtle things can take time....but I'll be glad to help.

Due to a sudden bit of good timing, looks like i'm going to get to make Phoenix after all. My boss is flying to LA in his bonanza on Tuesday, so I thought about riding out to Phoenix with him and then coming back with him. Anyone heading out that is looking to split a room with someone? Not 100% sure yet, but fairly certain.

Just talked to Rusty Dose (Rusty #2 since I have to fly with Rusty Fried all the time). He is battling demons and wind gods from the great North. He had a little setback with a Mechanical problem but is just about coming into Omaha. Picking up Claude and will be heading out for Phoenix from there. Should most likely be somewhere in OK tonight, then western TX or eastern NM on Sat night and then rolling on into the Valley of the sun and warmer temps on Sunday sometime.

Today is suppose to be 79degs and calm winds.

Also talked to Arch, and I'm going to pick him up and smuggle him back across the border on wed sometime. He will be flying into Casa Grande a little airport between PHX and Tucson. About 75-80miles from the flying field. We'll have to get him a frogman suit to help me make it back across. From my understanding its not too difficult a task. I'll acquire some local talent for the operation.

I have a couple Pinnacles and Rusty Dose has some models so he will have a good selection of stuff to fly.

I'm going to Lowes to get material to stripe the field this weekend and should be up flying this afternoon.

Well, I've made it to El Paso so far. Was really windy and a bumpy flight in a bonanza. Should be getting into Phoenix tomorrow about 4 or so. Looking forward to getting some serious flying this week, with other people's airplanes..

Should be a fun week,

Arch

Since staying overnight at field is not allowed. Is there a good spot anywhere near field been found to campout yet? Dave wants to take his motorhome up there.

Sorry for the Off topic question, if people could PM me answers to keep this question from getting responces here. This was the most recent and active post on the Phoenix area and I need info really bad.

I'm moving to Phoenix (Luke AFB) this summer. I am looking for as much info as I can get on the area RC wise. If folks could answer a few questions I would be greatful.
Clubs near Luke? Yes I know Luke has a club too. What are they like?
Clubs near Surprise? Costs? runway types?
Clubs near Buckeye? Costs? runway types?
Hobby shops in the area?
Average weather? Winds? I know it's hot in the summer
I fly, Glow, Gas and Electric (aerobatic and scale warbird) planes, I also fly Heli's. I am your average weekend flyer.
Any additional info is appreciated. Thanks!

During the Cactus Classic a couple of weeks ago, it seemed everyone was allowed to camp in a clearing just inside the gate to the south. Seems that is high enough and out of the way enough for the Flood Control District not to have the same concern as camping in the parking lot.

Nice to see the Omahawks are out there representing this week. Odds are they wouldn't like the flying weather back home this weekend!

We are having a blast out here. First I want to thank Troy for letting me stay with him and Rusty Dose and Dave Guerin for letting me fly their Focus. Weather has been beautiful up until today. Was upper 50's low 60's and WINDY. Troy test flew Rusty's new Zeque and it was VERY impressive. I'm sure Rusty will post more there. Chip Hyde showed up today with his Scandelous. Troy is flying really well with his Astral and Brett Wickizer is flying great with his e-powered Beryll. FAI will be tough. Jerry Budd showed up today, so i'm looking forward to having some fun flying with Jerry, and Rusty Fried in Masters.

Me not being the bright one, I didnt bring my own transmitter. I'm flying Rusty's Focus, with his transmitter and it really feels weird with the soft springs. I keep kicking myself for not bringing my transmitter with me.

Anyway, we are having a great time out here. I'll post some more info tomorrow once we get some scores...

Ok, Here are some preliminary results of the Phoenix contest. Around 30 flyers showed up and the weather Sat was cold and windy (go figure for the desert) but today was prime flying weather, temp around 70 and very calm winds. FAI was as close as nats whisker in the end. Here's the top 3.
FAI
1st - Chip Hyde
2nd - Bret Wickizer
3rd - Troy Newman

Masters
1st - Arch Stafford
2nd - Jerry Budd
3rd - Rusty Fried

That's all I can remember off the top of my head. I hope I got the masters in the right order !!!

Well, for everyone who didn’t make Phoenix, I can tell you it was a wonderful week. Weather was great for most of it. Thanks to the Sun Valley Fliers and Rusty Fried for the great contest. Also want to thank Dave Guerin for all of his help, and I’m sure many will agree. Rusty Dose for letting me use his airplanes, even though we lost his new Focus this morning due to a battery issue..so he then offers me his brand new Zeque. Troy Newman and wife Jenny for letting me stay with them all week. I’m really glad I was able to make it out. I had to bail a few minutes early to catch my flight back to Del Rio in my boss’ K35 Bonanza. I will let some one else post the scores, but I know how the top in Masters and FAI turned out. Masters and FAI were dogfights all weekend. I think Masters ended up with the 3 of us at the top within 8 or 10 normalized points, and FAI was the same way. Brett Wickizer is going to be a FORCE in FAI. Every day as the week progressed he flew better and better and was a definite force by the weekend. Troy was flying great with his new Oxai Astral and he flew his Adventure Bipe as well. Mark Leesburg showed up and and flew Saturday afternoon, and Jason Krause did some great heli flights as the week went on.

The new Oxai Zeque is IMPRESSIVE!!! The plane flies amazing and presents just as well. Anyone flying these at the NATS this year should be penalized, its just not fair.

Anyway, just a few observations, now I’ve got to go unpack.

Tough having a contest in late Feb…J

I hear Arch won by 10 points over Jerry and Rusty was 2 points behind Jerry! FAI seemed to be close too... heard Troy had the wrong model programmed in, and when he went to take off, the elevator went DOWN! busting up the prop.. (sounds like something I might do!) and I state this as he might have done better had it not been for this. Go Troy! The results will be on the D7 web soon.

Me, Chip, and Troy were within 9 normalized points of each other at the end of the contest: 3988, 3982, and 3980 respectively. It was a race to the finish and I had a great time all the way through.

Thanks to everyone that help put on the contest and all the people that helped me throughout the week. I met a LOT of really great people and got a lot of help from several people as well. It was a great trip, thanks to everyone.

I had a blast, met a lot of talented people, and learned a lot. Special thanx to Troy for introducing me to everyone and helping me get my plane trimmed so I can actually start practicing the sportsman routine.

I'm gonna try to make Riverside in April. Hope to see you all there.
