I just ordered one, price was R2000 (about 275$) I will have it on Wednesday and then I can give you more info. I just lost my 90 pattern plane so I need one fast. The weight is 3.8 KG; length is 1.73 meter and 1.61 meter wide. I am forced to use a 91 two-stroke in sportsman so will have to use a tune pipe. It's only 300 grams more then my old plane and I was flying that without a tune pipe. I like the idea that it’s a Genesis rip-off.

My Accipiter arrived yesterday. For a pattern pilot it’s a disappointment. This is not a pattern plane! But having said that I must say it’s a beautiful plane. I am thinking of excuses to keep it but at this stage my priority is to find a replacement for my sportsman plane. The fuselage looks a lot like a Genesis but the rest looks like it’s copied from a Funtana S. The bottom is a bright orange and dark blue, this should look stunning, and you will definitely not get confused about what side you looking at. The engine mounts at a 45 degree angle so that the muffler is at the bottom. And this is an advantage over the Funtana because it can use an OS91FX with a standard muffler without mods or extensions. The 91‘s muffler fits nicely in a cavity made at the bottom of the fuselage. Because of the way the engine mounts I think it will be easy to fit a tune pipe, but it will be open. The handbook says it is designed to use a 91 two-stroke or 120 four-stroke.

i have seen it at my local store, and the one I saw has a wingspan of 1.48 mts instead of the 1.61 advertized ( I have measured it) how about yours?

The measurements of mine are as I stated. I have heard of a 40 size Accipiter but I have not seen one. And yes I did not take it back to the store and will be putting it together soon.

I need advice from someone that has put an Accipiter together. The plane has no right thrust. Is this because they neglected to put it in or is it because the plane does not need any? Looking at the design of the plane I don’t think that it needs any down thrust because the engine’s thrust line is well above the wings, and if you extend the engine’s thrust line it is just slightly below the middle of the rudder. So is it possible that this design does not need right or down thrust?

I am very interested in buying this plane , I own an OS91FX and I d'ont want to use a tuned pipe , only standard muffler , can anyone tell me if this engine has enough power for 3D with this plane ? , and which is the best prop with this setup?

Why don't you recommend the ACCIPITER from Phoenix Models as an F3A. I'm a beginner to pattern flying and would like more info. In the process of ordering one as SWALLOW from CMPRO not available.
Thanks

I have finely finished my accipiter and have flown it a couple of times. Let me first answer your question Bert, No I don’t think it will have enough power with a standard muffler. Let look at the pros and cons:
The plane was designed for a heavy engine + 900 grams. The OS91FX fits nicely with its standard muffler but you will need to ad about 120 grams of lead to the nose to get the CG right. I am running an OS91FX with a tune pipe, 14X8 APC, 15% Coolpower and getting 10400 RPM. I have used the 91FX without a tune pipe and got about 11000 with a 13X8 and a 14X6, I think the 14X6 would be your best bet.
The plane has no right thrust build in, which is a problem because it needs it. If I were to build the plane again I would not put the two servos in the tail, but would rather use a bell crank system and one servo in the middle, this would solve the CG problem when using a two-stroke.
Now for the good news: It can be made into an excellent sportsman pattern plane. With my setup (with 120 grams in the nose) it still weighs less than 3.8 Kg. It has more than enough vertical performance and I fly at 1350 meters. I did 5 flights yesterday and I don’t think I have ever flown a plane that is setup for pattern, what was this exciting. Because it's a big plane and does not have a very aerodynamic nose, one would think that it would be slow, but it’s fast. When horizontal I flew at under half throttle, it is only when vertical that I opened the throttle.

I've one of these and I have to say that it's a great plane!!!!
I'm using an OS 120 4 stroke pumped on it and goes GREAT!!! Neverthless I had to made some modification on the plane; I'll detail if anyone is interested...
Here some vids of mine:
