Ouch Daryl...That is one that I haven't done yet. I could though. My new Venus II has the tank up against the firewall. I flew for 10 minutes and noticed that I needed some down trim. I got it re- trimmed and landed, fueled up and went for takeoff again. I really scared myself as it took full up to lift off and half up to fly level. Needless to say I re-trimmed and pressed on. That is the first time that I have ever noticed a trim change from full to low fuel. The tank is only 14oz. I do love the Venus and really like the OS 120AX. That engine runs very smooth with tons of power, and the throttle response is awesome.

It finally quit raining long enough to fly the Focus again. Must have made all the repairs without changing anything. It flies just as good as it always did.

Can you move the fuel tank to the CG? The Focus does not change trim at all with fuel consumption. Just an idea.

Yes Daryl...I was trying to avoid installing a Perry pump. I will make that change soon. Our fying weather in Michigan has been the best I have seen in years. It has been hot though.

Once you tly it with the tank on CG, you will never be able to fly any kind of precision flying model any other way! Makes a very big difference.

I have the tank on the CG of my F-Sport, YS 110. I went overboard with battery pack, using an SR - 5 cell 2250 6V- Ni-Cad, use Ni-Mih in everything else. Battery pack under the tank. Isn't this pack more critical for CG then the tank, if the tank is placed right ? I am not an expert here.

What makes the fuel tank critical is that it's the only thing that changes weight during flight.

Although CG is often achieved by moving the battery pack around, once it's achieved it doesn't matter how much the battery weighs, except that it affects vertical performance, increases wing loading, and greatly increases G loads. Keep in mind that at 10 G's 5 ounces becomes 50 ounces (more than 3 lbs!), thus a lot more stress on the airframe.

The only problem I had with the Perry pump was flooding when I had the tank pressurized from the muffler. Once I disconnected the muffler and turned down the pump it works flawlessly.

I can easily move the tank back on my Venus II, (I know, wrong forum), (I would have a Focus Sport if they were still available). I can't easily center it over the CG. I can have some of the aft part over the CG and the rest a bit forward. I am sure that this will be a far better location than butted up to the firewall.

Central's site says the Sport is available ARC, $199.95, I guess the usual shipping, $50.00.

I lost my Excelleron 90 last night. Had a bad un-intended snap at the bottom of a loop which I couldn't recover from. May have lost part of the elevator linkage - I am not sure. Never been particularly snappy before last night. It continued to snap everytime I touched the elevator all the way through a tree at a velocity that turned it to confetti.

Anyways, looking for a new home for my YS 91FZ if it checks out OK. Would It haul around the Focus Sport well?

With 30% fuel and a 14x10 prop it would barely haul my Excelleron around a large loop with authority. Vertical uplines would get real iffy at about 250' or so.
My beat around H9 Twist with piped 46FX on 30% was easier to fly large loops or extended vertical lines with than the "pattern" oriented Excelleron. Which was sad considering how short coupled the Twist is.

I have no idea what the Excelleron weighed. Anyone pleased with the 91 in a Focus Sport?

I am trying to decide if I should buy a new plane for the 91FZ or pony up for a used 140 for a well worn Focus 1 I recently acquired.

I am looking for the best way back into the air SUB $300. Flying Intermediate class IF I make a contest. Don't compete very often, but flying for fun I usually end up flying my own sequences that fall into the Master level or so. So lets just say that the power level of the FZ in the Excelleron left lots to be desired.

Thanks for any feedback!

I have no experience with the YS91 but I would fly my Focus Sport with a Satio 100 if I hadn't had the magnum 120 available. I fly at 3/4 throttle most of the time with the 120

I fly mine with a Saito 120 with 15% fuel. I could not recommend anything lower in hp. It flies very well but the vertical performance is certainly not unlimited. I think a 120 2 stroke would carry this plane well as would a YS110. A YS91 might do the trick with 30% and was proped correctly.

That is interesting, I have unlimited vertical with my Magnum 120. It will go strait up as far as I can see orientation. I can't believe the Magnum 120 4 stroke is stronger than a Satio 120.

I would use an OS 120AX with a 17 x 6 APC pattern prop. I have that combo on my 9lb. Venus II and love it. This is a very smooth engine and will go out of sight vertically. It is more powerfull, starts easier, and has better midrange than any 4 stroke I have seen. The other good news is that it is very happy on 10% nitro fuel.

I don't think u will like the ys91 on the Focus Sport. You may want took look at something a little smaller, like the CA Model Epsilon 90, though it may be a little out of your price range.

Thanks for the feedback. I am moving the YS91 over to a 3d plane and am now looking for a good deal on a power plant for a Focus 1 I have acquired.

I am still thinking about getting a Focus Sport ARC to shelve for the future. Seems like a really good deal right now.

There were some parts available sometime back. I got a replacement fuselage after my kit box got stepped on and crushed it. Contact Steve Wall at Piedmont Models and see if he has what you need.

Looking to purchase another Focus Sport, ARF version. Anyone have any info, where one may be available, appreciate it. If none available will go with the ARC. Talked to Central today, the new YS115S is a big question mark. Possibly within the next 30 days, when their parts shipment arrive's. No guarantee's. Use something else ? Presently using YS110S.

Found one. Made puchase today. Burtona, I called Steve Wall, he fixed me up with an ARC kit, plus extra wing's and stab's. Now good to go, just need that YS115, no date on delivery.

The Focus S. arrived, very nice, on the bench. My other F. Sport has the YS110. This one is waiting on the new YS115. Possible delivery October. Burtona, thanks for the advice to contact Steve Wall.
