Default Comp ARF Impact

Ok, so I've read most of the threads on here regarding the Impact and from what I can gather they early ones had problems with the tails. I've received an email about newer generation kit for sale that has the factory installed tail former and depron reinforcement. So with the factory fixes, were/are they a reliable plane? The price on this one is right, but if there are issues with the tail still then it's throwing good money after bad so I'm looking for the most recent consensus, are guys still flying these successfully? Is it a dead in the water design etc?
Thanks in advance
Jeremy

Hi

Flew one for more than a year without the depron templates and no problems. The person I sold it to still flying it after having converted it back from electric to gp. No problems. I am aware of another three flying in our country, some in F3A class and no problems.

Hi Jeremy,

As you say, the early versions had problems with the rear fuselage creasing, this was before the "fix" was announced (and I could show you the emails that formed the "fix", cheeky B&$t&rds) which came in the form of a central crotch or ladder down the fuselage. I should know as I was one who had this problem and if you have read the early posts on the subject, will realise that the problem was blamed by CARF as sloppy hinge points on the rudder which would have been installed by the end user. I won't go back into the too's and fro's of the emails I received, or the insults from AG but suffice to say that with the fix the model is fine. I eventually repaired my fuselage and installed a balsa ladder and since then no problems, in fact it's still going strong today, snap rolls and all!

I would say you won't be dissapointed with the performance of the model but it is a slippery beast and does take some getting used to, especially when it comes to slowing it down. On finals for landings don't be afraid to slow it right up, it will sit on the stall all day long with out any nasties, in fact I've seen gliders behave much worse at this attitude and speed!

All in all, if the price is right, go for it.

My twopence worth...............................well I am from the UK

Let me know how you get on.

Regards,

Andy.
