I hope to be able to make it, Glen. For any of you considering it, I must say I went last year, and they have a VERY well-run contest over there.

My flyings back to normal now after my break. I've been practicing every day for the last 5 weeks, flying about 8 times a day so I am ready to get back to competiting.

It would be nice to see you again at a contest Mr. M.!
According to Glen's flyer, you may fly any AMA legal aircraft (55lbs. or less) in sportsman class (AMA 401). All other classes would fall under the rulebook criteria....
4.3: Weight and Size. No model may weigh more than five (5) kilograms (11 pounds) gross, but excluding fuel, ready for takeoff. Electric models are weighed with batteries. No model may have a wingspan or total length longer than two (2) meters (78.74 inches).

How have you been? I've been thinking about bringing out my Zimbawe Models Dalotel and flying it in Intermediate.... meets all the specs. I'm going to send you a PM

Hi Chuck,
I may very well do that. I have two graduate school projects due the 5th and two finals.... but I will likely need a break from studying.....

Say Mark,
Quick question regarding the intermediate sequence. Is the current sequence the same one as the power point presentation for judges on the NSRCA website?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
Have you flown pattern recently? If not, I would start in Sportsman. With the box, it is a much tougher sequence than it seems like. Glen puts on a great contest. Unfortunately it is a much longer commute this year, or I would be there.

I have flown pattern since 1981. (back when it was fast and fun
). I did the whole 2 meter thing about four years ago, unfortunately my pattern flying buddy moved to another state because of his job, so I devoted myself to flying r/c combat. I actually finished second in intermediate at a contest flying a .90 size ARF in North Texas back then. Only two entries, however. I'm not sponsored by anyone, I don't wear a radio mfg's shirt, nor do I have a fancy trailer to haul my stuff in. If I'm able to come, I'll be flying a 1990's Dalotel with an OS 1.20 on it. Budget pattern. I do use my proprietary glow fuel, GCBM R/C Glowplugboy Glow Fuel. I guess I'm sponsored by myself.

Nothing wrong with that. We all started there. I flew my first contests with a Fun Fly .40 and an Ace Silver 7 Single Stick TX. Just come out and have fun, but I would definitely start in sportsman. With the new box rules, the sequence is a lot tougher than it looks. If you do really well at that one in Sportsman, then move up, but if you start in Intermediate, you can't go back. D6 usually has a pretty good crop of Sportsman guys, so the competition will be there.

Mike,
Yes. The power point shows the current Intermediate sequence. It is a fun sequence, but the one nugget is the downwind centered top hat....comes right after a stall turn...can be a challenge if there a nice breeze going straight down the runway...
Hope to see you there....I want to see that dalotel!
We gotta get that other Mike to come visit Houston during a contest weekend!

Ah, yes, the Top Hat. And the Shark's tooth. Yep, the intermediate pattern is better than what it was five years ago. I am going to try my best to make it. I am taking what is called "Assessment in Industry", which is a statistical analysis class. I am on a "team" with a group project due the 5th. They're not real motivated, and I would not be surprised if I'm at the University Saturday finishing it with them..... Time will tell. But I can come out Sunday and say hi.
