Vanquish I vs. Vanquish II

Just wanted to find out if its worth the $$$'s to replace my old one with the new one. . .

The Mk II can use the same equipment as the original.
As to whether or not it's worth the $$$$ to have both, if you are happy with the original I think that it's a no brainer. BUY the MKII.

RE: Vanquish I vs. Vanquish II
I've got both.
V1 is flying very good, so I haven't finished V2. I can't give you a flight report, but the difference in quality is pretty large between the two. The original (IMO) is very good quality, but V2 takes it over the top. You can use the same motor and ESC, the airplanes are essentially the same, with the difference being slightly different construction, airfoiled tail surfaces, carbon gear, and different force arrangement between the two.
Finishing V2 is on my short list of things to do, so hopefully I can give a flying qualties comparison in the near future.

Does anyone know why the an air-foiled horizontal stab was not used on the new VANQUISH MKII? Any plane that I've flown air-foiled feels less jumpy if you know what I mean.

Ryan,
Thanks for the report. I was considering cutting the tabs off the elevator and rudder and gluing them to the fixed surfaces to smooth out the responses. But it sounds like the MkII has many improvements over the MkI,so that route may be better, especially since I can transplant the motor and ESC.

Any way you can post a few photos of some of the upgraded parts of the MkII?

Keith,
I'll be glad to get you some pictures. It will likely be tomorrow morning before I post them, however. I'll get some of both versions of the airplane for comparison purposes.

RE: Vanquish I vs. Vanquish II
The photo of the horizontal stab under number 9. shows a square slot. Now that's where I stopped and should have read the note:
9. Open the horizontal stabilizer mounting slot in the rear of the fuselage with a sharp hobby knife (Please note-The elevator slot for the MKII is shaped like the stabilizer airfoil).
I'm guessing that the image is of the first version for the manual.
It's a toss up right now on either the Sequence or the MkII for me. I've opened the box of the Sequence and that is one very nice ARF. I consider myself somewhat critical as I've been building for over 40 years which the building part has been the most gratifying. I really love how the new planes are so much lighter and responsive, just outright fun to fly, but they just don't hold a candle to a mirror smooth body, and smooth flying with a to die for finish that some of the old master's pattern planes of 30 years ago. Not to mention the quality of construction and finish on the Formula Ones of that time.

RE: Vanquish I vs. Vanquish II
Keith,
I had some things come up this morning, so I took the airplanes with me to work this evening. They're late, but they're here.
Anyway, to start out, here are the motor boxes. The V1 is on the left, V2 is on the right. I had to modify the motor box somewhat (shorten it) because I was too cheap to buy a Hacker or a Torque motor. Everything still looks the same as it did when it came out of the box, but if you see splicing and wood that doesn't match, that's why. The CF bracing is how it comes out of the box, I just had to shorten them up a little to fit the firewall being moved back.

Interior of the fuselages up front. V1 on the left, V2 on the right.
For those of you that have the original Vanquish, you may notice that the radio component that is sitting rudder servo tray on my airplane isn't in the rudder servo. I moved the servo to the tail because even with the battery against the wing tube, it was still nose heavy. No biggie, it took 20 minutes worth of work to accomplish. On the V2, the rudder servo is in the back. The belly is sheeted on the new one, and those are carbon fiber rods that serve as longerons. There are G10 (I guess that's what the material is) flanges on the top so you don't destroy the wood when you are trying your best to break every former in the fuse.

Comparison of empennage and landing gear. The new gear is carbon versus aluminum on the original. The new wheelpants seem to be more substantial, and still lightweight. The fuse seems to be a little wider in the rear on the MKII, I presume since the fin is built into the fuselage.

I'm not a professional photographer, I just freelance at Glamour Shots, so I didn't really succeed in capturing the airfoil shape of the stab on the MKII. Also, please ignore the CA fog, I haven't cleaned it off yet.

And the last few shots I got in between hustling King Airs. I didn't get any comparison shots of the wings, because they appear to be the only part of the airplane that hasn't been changed from the original. If there is anything else that you guys want to see, let me know. I got a shot of the airplanes from the front, but I guess my camera didn't really care. I've always been a, ahem, tail man, if you catch my drift anyway.

RE: Vanquish I vs. Vanquish II
Ryan I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on buying the MkII. Is there a link of someone flying the first version through a pattern sequence? Should I get the motor, ESC, combo if I order? Any concerns, ideas, or suggestions would be great. I have a 90 sized F3A plane now but just don't get to go to the field as much as I would like to practice, but I believe that this plane would fit into a perfect size for me here in town. If it flys well enough may just use it to compete with LOL. Thanks in advance.

Ryan,
Thanks for the photos!! How does that CF tail gear look like its going to hold up?
I'm seriously leaning towards getting a MkII, moving the guts over and selling the MkI. . .

Ryan the plane looks to me to be a winner. What do you all think about this motor for flying the Vanquish on a budget?

Anyone else have any other suggestions I would really like to here them. Thanks in advance.

Different angle. V1 is on the left, V2 is on the right.

I don't have much interest in electric. Are there any provisions for a small gas or glow engine? I have a YS63 that needs a plane...is that too small?
